Developers who have never made a bad game

i think we can all agree? ;)

vfy36fv.png

It saddens me that I have owned Bastion since it came in the most amazing Humble Bundle (w/ Psychonauts and other awesome games) but haven't even beaten it. Such great a great aesthetic, soundtrack, and narration. But the gameplay, I find, pretty boring.

Chucklefish? Starbound, Risk of Rain. Good stuff.

Bungie was going to be my first pick. They've had a couple of close calls, but I consider even their worst games to be at least decent. It's a real shame that Oni was released in basically a half-finished state. I'm sure it would have turned out amazing if it hadn't been thrown under the bus for the sake of Halo CE. The skeleton of a great game was definitely there though, and the sound track was very good. On a semi-related note, I've always wondered how different the future would have been if Myth 2's installer bug had been caught before the game had gone gold.

My 2nd pick is Platinum, even though I've only played 4 of their games so far. I've really enjoyed the ones I've played up to now, especially Vanquish and Metal Gear Rising.

Vanillaware is another good pick. I don't think any of their games are considered bad, and the ones I've played definitely aren't.

Edit: I'm ashamed that I forgot to include G.rev...They're definitely worth a mention since none of their games have been bad either, and they're also responsible for two of my favorite games ever.

Platinum. There worst game is Anarchy Reigns, and that's still pretty good.

You know what, Grasshopper has a decent track record, even if their highs aren't really that high. They've never released a true stinker, even NMH2 had it's good points.

Turn 10. Forza Motorsport series. 1 - 5. Bungie I wouldn't call Odst a bad game, a not so good game perhaps. Remedy as well if you count the Death Rally games.

Damn, this is hard.

I was going to say Retro but they made Metroid Prime 2
I was going to say Treasure but they've made a bunch of obscure licensed stuff.
I was going to say CAVE but Nin2jump
I was going to say Blizzard but Diablo III
I was going to say Irrational but Bioshock Infinite

Developers that play it safe are probably the best bet here. Maybe Valve and Harmonix?

Edit: Sega AM2 is a good choice too.

Oni was a bad game in my opinion...

Agreed. I made it to the end and beat it, but it was boring as hell with insanely sparse areas and really repetitive gameplay. I still cannot believe I bought that game new. It must have been the Ghost in the Shell style main character that did me in.

Harmonix has never made a bad game.

Ever.

You and me, we're good friends and you just don't know it.

Music games aren't popular? Here's Guitar Hero.
You want us to re-invent it again? Here's Rock Band.
You don't like Kinect/you're tired of Rock Band? Here's Dance Central.
You want different ways to explore your library? Here's Rock Band Blitz.
You want a reboot of a bad-selling game? Here's Amplitude.
You want *more* Dance Central? Here's more Dance Central.

There needs to be a Harmonix for every genre.
(Luckily, Platinum exists as the Harmonix of action-adventure, IMO.)

I was thinking about them too, and now that I see the list, they might have the best record of any studio. The only downside is that their whole catalogue is aimed at the same niche audience, so you'll either enjoy all of their games or none of them.

I would argue Massive Entertainment

2000 Ground Control
2000 Ground Control: Dark Conspiracy
2004 Ground Control II: Operation Exodus
2007 World in Conflict
2009 World in Conflict: Soviet Assault
2011 Assassin's Creed: Revelations
2012 Far Cry 3
2015 Tom Clancy's The Division

Unlike the majority i appreciated Assassin's Creed Revelations. Valve i would say no because of Ricochet, Blizzard because of D3 and Obsidian (they did have bad luck with publishers though like with KOTOR2 and New Vegas)
