DF: Nier Automata demo PS4 vs PS4 Pro

Isn't 900p60fps pretty standard for the regular PS4? Battlefield, Uncharted, Mirrors Edge, etc. I'm glad Platinum are finally producing a much more solid frame rate to start with on consoles in general after their last gen / Wii U games.

Yep. And in a super high intensity action RPG game like this, especially from Platinum games, attempting to keep as high an FPS as possible is generally paramount IMO.

Unlike something like KH2 which is designed for 30fps despite being very quick and touch based, Platinum games generally don't feel right at all without that smooth controller response of 60fps because of the hyper stylish feel

Of course you could go the DmC route of Ninja theory and make a 30fps native res game with a lot of graphical stuff happening. But i think that misses the point a bit

Well people said this about Bloodborne ("it's designed to be 30fps!") but i don't buy it.
Aside from the frame pacing being trash, if you're doing an action game where dodging is based on a handful of i-frames, you need to hit that 60fps target, or at least try, 30fps is just not good enough.
Reason why for all the parading about being faster, i still found it easier to dodge attacks in Dark Souls 2 on PC, than in Bloodborne on ps4, because of the delay 30fps introduces.
Thank christ games like Nioh understand this and offer an option.

Funny when i play the demo on the pro at 2160p, the movements of the carachter seem restrict, more like 30fps, but when i switch to 1080p the game seems faster, anyone have this problem?

Who wants to eat a cake with no icing?

Diabetics?

People on a diet, or don't have a particularly "sweet tooth" ?

Is this a pop quiz?

Seriously though, having played through the demo several times on OG PS4, it looks good to me and runs very well.
Any improvements in the final will be appreciated, but wholly unnecessary.

No one is asking for U4 60 fps graphics but considering what's on screen I don't find it unreasonable to ask for 1080p on PS4 and 2k or 4k check for Pro.

True, It's not unreasonable to expect such a visually unflattering game to output at a better resolution and framerate on the base PS4 and Pro.

People complaining do know that this is a demo right?

There's still a lot of time to improve it.

I mean, not really .. it's supposed to come out early February. They should have locked down most of the things by now, unless the demo itself was from an older build.

Honestly, I don't think there's going to be any big improvements between the demo and the final game but I'm open to good surprises.

I played the demo in a normal PS4 and it ran great. Seems that it will be even better in PS4 Pro, but the normal PS4 version is good enough.

Someone who doesn't want to pay $400 for the icing.

Regular or slim are not free so its $150 for the icing. Even if upgrading its way less. Youd be better off using cherry on top.
Not every cake needs icing...

No but its a matter of preference. For the most part you want the icing. Or ice cream even.

I dont know what happened here. But this icing comment went way off.

I remember when DF used to do the 360 vs ps3 comparisons and gamers had a whole other system to get the "best version" of a game that was on multiple platforms. Now upped resolution is or better framerate or both is icing? Come on. It may not be a big deal to some, but it's nothing to sneeze at either.

And i will be looking forward to play Nioh with High-Res/30, simoly because i think 30fps works just right for evasion and iframes and higher res is awesome.

I think its cool theyre giving the options. I just pre-ordered nioh even though i missed both demos. Gameplay vids sold me.

Yes options are all i expected and wanted from PS4 Pro.
For me it was the same; watched some Videos the other day and immediately saw this onimusha/souls like game and decided to buy.

Its a good thing, but the more powerful variant of the PS4-line is practically guaranteed to have some enhancements, so its entirely redundant to criticize the base model for performing in-line with what is lower specs suggest!

The problem wasn't the icing metaphor, it was the "who wants..." clause.

Would I like the added resolution and motion blur (frame-rate improvement judging by the demo is marginal)? Sure.

Do I want it enough to buy a new console for it? Not so convincing, but as I am planning to get a Pro at some point down the line, it'll be nice then.

Just saying, slight improvements shouldn't be treated like deal-breakers is all, its silly.

Well, it's already happening. Games are being designed for Pro and early adopters are stuck with sub-HD, sub-30fps games. Makes my decision to not buy your game that much easier, thank you.

Love the way object motion blur is implemented on the Pro. It really flatters the animations and adds to the impact and fluidity of combat.

It isn't sub 30 tho. It's running at 60 with occasional dips into 50. If it were locked at 30 it would easily run at 1080p

Disk space? A 60fps video would be twice as large as it would be at 30fps for obvious reasons. If there are a lot of these pre rendered scenes it could get pretty unwieldy to store them all.

More like 30-50% more. If the data was uncompressed this would true, but video compression does incredibly well these days with content that is mostly repeated data.

But the point still stands.

Because there were never any 900p ps4 games before the pro right?

900p/60fps is nothing new for PS4. Those of use who bought Pros did it in part to avoid any future games running like that.

Standard PS4s make up the overwhelming majority of all sold PS4s obviously. It wouldn't be very wise to optimize games for the like one percent of Pro owners. ;)

By the way...do we know how the Pro sold so far?

900p and 60fps is a good enough deal for me. I still don't see the incentive for myself to get a pro. I'll just wait for the ps5 or next iteration.

What a terrible post.

Do you see how the game runs and looks on standard PS4 as is? There is no magic optimization card that gets the game to 1080p 60fps, it would just run and play worse than it does now on standard PS4.

PS4 Pro is able to power past those limitations, it has nothing to do with being built for Pro.

Look at the developer your pointing at before flying off the handle is what i say. They chose the best settings to get their game to as close to 60fps as they could, and they made the right calls for the demo.
