DF: Resident Evil Requiem Switch 2 Analysis: DLSS Is A Game-Changer

I'm awakening on Subzero83 permabanned. Now I'm going to miss his smiling reaction on every post I make about anything Switch 2 related (not even debatable things, just plain news coming from the internet).

especially in still shots where you give the image enough time to accumulate appropriate detail
Keep thinking this is a "must find a positive because… reasons" thinking pattern. What is the point in games, let alone action games, to focus on still shots to leave enough time for "details to accumulate"?
I think closure of Bluepoint by some idiot bean counter made me saltier, but it is also true that if standards / expectations lowers someone will ask about why we would pay for Bluepoint salary if we can get Virtuous to do something similar in stills at a cheaper price because customers seem not to know or appreciate the difference anymore? This is me going a bit off topic though so I will stop here.

Meh, looks way better on my MSI Claw 8.
Yes, double the price of the hardware, I'm just messing. It's impressive for a handheld at $450.
As far as i have seen, it doesn't look better as the switch 2 version. Thats the beautyfull thing of having nvidea tech.
But feel free to post a compare video of that? Maybe the one i've seen wasn't correctly configured? But at this point, it does seem that no pc handheld can archieve better results as the switch 2 version of this game.
Knowing idd the price, it's nutz.

What narrative are you speaking of?

Do you even know that Oliver stated in his analysis in September that SW: Outlaws is DLSSed to 1440p, but DF had to correct that info in October?

ht07fHRniehBN7Fh.jpg

Do you think that Oliver is some kind of superhuman who never makes mistakes?
Am I allowed to use my own eyes or should I take the opinions of other people as gospel and never dare to seek answers myself?

And yeah, I would prefer that words such as 'perhaps', 'I think', 'I suspect' were not used in the analysis.
Don't you think that any kind of analysis should be based on something more meaningful than 'perhaps'?

And RE9 is fine on Switch 2 (graphics settings wise).
The only thing Capcom can realistically do to improve it is to simply offer a 40 fps option.
To be honest I do not see your or the banned SubZero's motivation for all this. Zero stated it was so he could inform people to play the best version of the game, which apart from being very pretentious and condescending, had very little to back it up. As all versions of this game apart form the ultra high end PC settings are compromised in some way or another. But personally I will take the easy plug and play nature of a console version all day long.

So speaking of the console versions there are five different machines this game is being released for. Now as I said before very few people in reality own a PS5 Pro, I think the sales of this console is less than even the very low sales of the PS4 Pro. So most Sony fans will be experiencing this gam on the regular PS5, which is a great version by the way, but not the same as the PS5 Pro. But yet we never see threads picking faults all day on every single performance thread about any other version than the Switch 2.

Which makes me feel there is more to all this than simply informing people lol..

I've never been a fan of the Switch's hardware, and I've always been open about that. But there's a clear difference between respectfully sharing your opinion, with reasoning and proof to back it up, and constantly turning every discussion into a hostile argument.

At some point, it stops being criticism and starts becoming toxicity that derails every thread. I honestly think the ban was probably for the best

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but the game looks insanely good in handled mode !

Props to Capcom for putting in the work. Switch 2 really is a beast.

I hope Pragmata comes to the console with the same level of polish, i think the first part or RE9 would be too scary for me lol.

What can help you understand me is that for majority of you these threads are simply about a Switch 2. But for me they are about a 20-watt T239 SOC with two 6 GB 51.2 GB/s memory modules.

And it's supposed to be an analysis. A tech talk. And that's exactly what I'm actually doing.
I'm not really sure what all the ❤️ Switch 2 ❤️ posts got to do with tech, but there's usually more of them than posts about actual tech...

If you want me, I can say that it was pathetic on Sony's part that they released the PSSR the way they did. Or maybe it wasn't so much the release itself, but the way they supported it. I mean, Stellar Blade and TLOU2 were really improved in terms of image quality on PS5 Pro's launch day.
But then came a whole bunch of games with worsened image quality (Silent Hill 2, Avatar: FOP, etc.). If I were Sony, I would do everything in my power to fix this situation quickly (I would retrain their model for each game showing problems, tweak the sliders and create custom profiles for each game - stuff like that).
But the Switch 2 tech threads are not about PSSR (and there's actually a PSSR2 thread today - the news about PSSR2 is really interesting to me). For me, tech threads about demanding games on Switch 2 are strictly about raw GPU power or DLSS or raw CPU power.

You'll never see me cheering for any company or any piece of plastic. The 'no flaws detected' mentality - no, that's definitely not me!
Which makes me feel there is more to all this than simply informing people lol..
And in regards to subzero83 - he was exaggerating. He was posting too often. Sometimes he had trouble explaining what he actually wanted to say.
I was OKaying some of his posts, because he was sometimes presenting valid points. And the video he posted in post #51 really has quite interesting behaviour, if we're talking DLSS anti-aliasing. Everyone can see it for themselves - for example at 12:27 and 12:45.
When he was making a fool of himself (like, for example, with this Sonic racing game) I wasn't OKaying his ramblings.

You are welcome to check and see that I have also OKayed some posts by you, by Ocidax, by FoxMcChief (who for some reason really seems to love to mention me in his posts) and even by Buggy.
I'm not a tribal fanatic. I read the majority (sometimes all) of the posts in the threads I visit. And when I agree with the entire post (or some important point of the post) I click and give a positive emoji reaction.

Look, I understand that Switch 2 is still new and you're all still interested in how it fares.
But in 2 years time, when ~1/2 of users in this thread couldn't care less about a DF video about some Switch 2 game, I will still be interested in the capabilities of the SOC known as the T239.
Wait he really have had the courage to say such DLSS at 360p on switch 2 is better upsampler than the ps5 IQ?
The image in the lower part of my post is solely about Oliver's wording. It has nothing to do with comparing Switch 2 with PS5.
And yeah, when comparing native 360p with TAA on Switch 1 to 360p DLSSed to 720p on the Switch 2, I think that 'game-changer' is an appropriate term.

I think Subzero was trolling, hence his perm ban.

It's crazy how one can be so triggered and upset by a console you don't own or even care about. Insecure Playstation fanboys are the worst fucking people in the gaming community.

Personally, I think the reason for his constant posts about Switch 2 was: 1) the price/performance ratio of the Switch 2
OR 2) he got really tired of some people on the internet overhyping the S2's power before its release.

Either way, he went too far in his 'mission'.
Wait... Is it not 360p to 1080P on handheld mode for RE9??
According to DF, it's not: 'The handheld story is even more extreme, but somehow a 4x resolution upscale from 360p to 720p (likely with a basic upscale to the screen's 1080p) still manages to look fine.'

You give him far too much credit methinks.

Doesn't look fine and that helps to explain.

"I don't care about a piece of plastic, I care about a piece of silicone"

lol ok

There's also the software that's pretty fucking cool, but that's just me. I like video games.

But 360p DLSSed to 1080p wouldn't really look that much better.

The 360p is the cause of the image quality issues. Not the final output resolution.
DLSS SR CNN model simply gets noisier as the input resolution gets lower.

It is a tech analysis thread.

I'm impressed with Switch 2 from just quickly browsing threads and the odd Youtube video. I thought the last one was a bit shit/okayish depending on game but this one is a lot closer to current gen than the Switch 1 was to Ps4/Xb1.

It is a tech analysis thread.

Exactly, and running on a 20 watt handheld is cool technogy. Consumers like that... they get attached to that.

The software itself is also cool technology. Tech that allows me to play my favorite franchises. It's all connected.

I can kick back with my feet up and play video games, while my girlfriend watches Kardashians.

That piece of plastic saves relationships... It's basically a pocket pussy.

You aren't going to convince me I don't like pussy.

S2 footage looks damn impressive for this game. Wish there was a way to lock it to 30 or 40 fps though, the massive drops during the action starts to look quite bad. That said, maybe it's not as noticeable in handheld VRR.

I ended up returning my S2 since I didn't want to hold onto a system without being sure there were going to be great titles being released consistently, and port quality was still up in the air. A few more winners like this one, and I'll be re-buying it. Anyone know if it supports cross saves with steam?

Can we just shock you? Resi 9 looks better on PS5 Pro than Switch 2. In all seriousness though, the Switch 2 looks like it's punching well above its weight, particularly in motion. The wizards at Capcom have done it once again with their shiny, fancy RE Engine.

This happens in every single Switch 2 game release, especially if it's a cross-platform game and it's always the same 2-3 people that completely derail the thread with screenshots and unflattering comparisons as if its a "gotcha" moment.

People are aware of the Switch 2's limitations, but the fact that games can come out on still look and play this well on the Switch 2 is a great sign, especially for people who only have a Switch 2

I Know a lot of you will be playing this on the PC and next gen consoles, but I can't get over how awesome this is on the Switch 2. The Nvidia DLSS is pure witchcraft.

Who overhyped its power? If anything it's beyond what most people thought.

Seems not that different though.

But the switch 2 received multiple visuals patches, like this one:

A lot of the bigger gamers get improvement patches after launch. Even fallout is getting a big dlss patch.

The trend is
- super shitty announcement trailer
- a much better launch version
- then a big improvement patch.

I've been too lazy to add subzero to my ignore list, so thank you to the mods for taking care of it.

Picked up my Generations set at Gamestop today and I think it's going to do very well for Capcom. The guy before me got two of the sets, and when they were getting my set out, it looked like the drawer was pretty much filled with Generation Pack preorders. I wanted to pick up the deluxe set for PS5 too, but they only got one in for a preorder.

So true, I was basically expecting a portable PS4, and we have ended up with somewhere between PS4 Pro and Series S. And with DLSS can punch way above it's weight.

Many overlook the fact most developers did not get Switch 2 dev kits that early, so patches like this on initial releases will be common place.

Pretty easy to do, 1080p with FSR performance, swap to XeSS using optiscaler. And you can use hair strands as well.

I was having so much fun in docked mode I forgot to check the handheld mode out, and was very impressed when I did.

And they trend by some on here is to use the shitty announcement trailer as proof the Switch 2 port is total trash... lol.

The generations pack is a super sweet deal, but I ended up cancelling my pre order and picking up the standard edition. I have already played 7 on the Series X, and do not get as much time to play these days, so RE9 will take me a while, in no rush to complete it.

The other two games will be on discount on the e-Shop in no time, I have nearly bought the No Man's Sky Switch 2 upgrade on discount around five times now. ;)
