Diablo 3 Gameplay Video [Art Debate Thread #547]

Monk coop and WD solo. Firebats 4 life. :)

In the Gamespot interview they mentioned a rune which turns the WD blowgun darts into live snakes.

Live. Fucking. Snakes. I'm definitely going to give WD a try at some stage.

Perfect for my WD only attack with temporary creatures build I'm planning. No pets all weird creaturey dps and spirit walk! Can't wait.

Even though i love D2 and will play the shit out of D3 i would still loved to have seen sequels that had an atmosphere more like the first game.

It feels like the atmosphere, setting and pacing has really taken a back seat to being a fast paced game all about loot.

It's not even that i prefer either style i would just like to play another game like D1.

Honestly can't mirror the criticisms being fired here.

Slow? It looked fine. Remember that in Diablo 2 your character was always running. I assume they had walking characters for the sake of not being too hectic.

Weak? Only the monk looked a bit weak, but he did take on 12 goat clan members at the same time.

Dull? Dreary? While it's supposed to be a barren outland, was act 1 of D2 so much better? Lots of dark greens, dead trees and gray stone walls.

And it was Act 1. No exotic locations, no cool spells (yet), no giant monsters or bosses. I seriously think the variety was fine. Esp the big snake filled monster had me laughing.

For all the people falling back on the "Blizzard can do no wrong" argument, have to disagree. Can't think of a time they've failed me on gameplay (said as someone who has no experience with WoW), but the story in Starcraft 2's campaign was offensively awful. Not sure how much that means about Diablo 3, but that's the point--Blizzard isn't automatically safe from all criticism just because they're Blizzard. Not anymore. Along with the shifts in their business practices with WoW, SC2 and now Diablo 3, they're far from bulletproof in my mind. All that being said, I want to believe, as I too spent an embarrassing number of hours in D2 and regret them less than I probably should. But this that they're showing us here, not too great. Not too great.

All I needed to see was the skill runes. This game is going to suck the life out of me.

Based on the footage before all the fan Photoshop jobs and fan complains that lead to the Art Director leaving, Diablo 3 looked way better before. It looks really bland to me now.

Huge let down.

so spells don't cast any kind of lightning effect on the surrounding.

I'm still ignorantly hoping the media shown for the game isn't the game at its best, e.g. max settings and all.

On another note ( I didn't know which of the trillion d3 threads to post this in ) has anyone else realized that the leaked Blizzard roadmap has been followed and has thus far been accurate? The reason I'm pointing this out is of course that according to said roadmap d3 is scheduled for a Q4 release and there have been many occasions where Blizzard reps have mentioned that they really want the game to hit this winter.

I certainly hope so, but this is Blizzard we are talking about. They have said they want to release it this year, but of course they will not release it if they feel it's not 100% polished etc etc...

I'm hoping it's released the week before thanksgiving. I have Thanksgiving week off, so it would be perfect :).

In fairness, SC2 did come a long way visually in the final few months, so D3 might too. I'm not holding my breath though, since I've been pretty disappointed with what D3 has shown for a while now.

I think I am going Monk, dude looks really badass, DH looks cool but it seems that he/she relies on movement a lot and you have to do crazy back-flips all the time for good positioning.

It's either monk or witch doctor at this point need to see more gameplay.

I'll have one of each character within the first day and then decide who I want to be my main. I'm a nerd that way lol.

I'm leaning towards Demon Hunter or Wizard though. I love me some bows or magic.

sorc all the way.

I'm surprised people want to play the Monk after this video. He takes forever to kill stuff in this video.

Usually that is my plan also in these type of games. Too bad that the one I pick first is the one I will keep on playing with.

Right, because of course he's only ultimately as good as he appears at first glance.

I like him because he is high DPS melee character but also uses some net magic-like moves, it's still too premature to declare him UP

Started to nod off at the 3 minute mark. Does Blizzard put "bring nothing to the table" directly into the first page of their design documents or is this just a force of habit at this point? Maybe it just doesn't need to be said, it's to be expected.

Game looks great to me, Barb or Sorc on my first play through. I re-signed up for battle.net last night since it has been years since I have been on. Registered all my Blizzard games and made myself eligible for the beta - I am ready!

I was honestly expected a game looking a lot, lot better than this. The graphics are just so underwhelmingly bland. I guess this is one of the faults of using such a faraway overhead perspective, still they could have done a lot with more enviroment designs, this looks like about a dozen other titles. If I had watched that video not knowing what game it was for then the only thing that would have given it away as a Diablo game and not any generic shoestring top down action RPG would be the music.

You should watch this: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/combat-diablo-iii/718496

It's pretty fucking hilarious. Feels like they really stopped giving a shit and are treating this like some random new IP that doesn't already have a well-established legacy.

Spells and abilities seem sort of underwhelming.

Then again, after recently playing Magicka, spellcasters in other games seem really nerfed in comparison. I think D3 could use some more gib effects.

That's hard to say at this point since it takes every class forever to kill stuff in this video. I mean, I understand the desire to pull back from the hyperactive pacing of D2 and make it more like D1's deliberate pacing, but right now the combat looks as dull and lifeless as your usual auto-attack watch yourself hit something 94 times to kill it MMOG. I guess the WoW players will eat it up, but that shit just isn't the Diablo from my childhood.

lol @ people thinking the monk will be weak. All classes will dominate.

It looks pretty bad in the new footage still, but I think it's fine, and oddly it looks nicer when the HUD is on I think. I really hope I get in the beta, I really have no idea what class I'd want to play.

What's the woman with the red lasers?

That's exactly what I was thinking. Without the HUD everything looks much more empty than they already are.

It impressed me, I'm looking forward to it but it's definitely going to hurt to have to pay $60 for it & simultaneously be tempted constantly to plunk down microtransactions..

Wizard is my favorite so far but I think I'm going Monk first just because that stop-motion kickassery is too kickassery to ignore.

Two pictures I haven't seen, from the swedish site fz.se who has a preview up. First one looks decent given the fact that they've zoomed in ( like anyone is going to play it like that ). Although the second one has the more traditional camera angle/position I really think that one in particular looks bad.
