Did you use to be an edgelord?

Yep.

I guess I still am to a degree (Disturbed and Skillet are 2 of my favorite bands, I still use the name "archreaper", etc.), but not as much as I used to be (got over my "Nintendo is for babies, I want mature edgy games for mature edgy people like me" phase pretty quickly and now consider Nintendo to be my favorite publisher by far).

I used to use TheDeadman as my handle on most things. It was a reference to a book character more than anything else, but it was sorta edgy.

Stopped using it because people thought I was a Grateful Dead fan.

I was into black metal so I had something with Blasphemer in the name. That XBL account is probably still floating around somewhere.

It was just my gamertag though. I never used it online as far as I know.

If anything, I've become more of an edgelord over time.
Kids, listen to your old Uncle UserDoesNotExist, women don't dig the innocent types.

Said the guy posting on a video game forum with a Pikachu avatar.

Not really. I never really made "edgy" names. I originally made my gamertag thinking it was a cool, clever way of expressing my interests at the time, but now I just make silly, goofy names.

A couple of my friends were..One used a LOT of those little metal studs on pretty much all of his clothes..looked like such an idiot with his school uniform's shirt collar basically all metal, don't know how that could've been comfortable in Australian summers.

I guess the edgiest thing I had was one of those big stupid wallet chains, which ended up being a pain constantly setting off metal detectors and being banned from concerts (apparently people would attack eachother with them in the crowd).

Most of my usernames have been stolen from books.

Edgy? No. Stupid? Absolutely.

My first main screen name was "sticky monkey balls", named after the Sticky Ball power-up from Super Monkey Ball's Monkey Target mini-game. After that wore out its welcome I made "Ninjas Kick Anus", as I had been playing Ninja Gaiden (Xbox) at the time. When that was too long for log-in forms, I would shorten it to "AnusNinja". Xbox Live gave me hell for that one.

Now people just assume my username is a period joke. I'm so bad at this.

my runescape name is rapower, it was meant to be Ra Power like the kids cartoon but i didnt know how to space

My username here was a name I made in highschool because my friends and I were going to start playing Runescape and they all had cool fantasy names, so I made one up haha. Still pretty lame, but it stuck with me somehow.

It was a spin on Dremora from Elder scrolls with a k because thats cool lol.

In wow I had (guess I still have if I resubbed) an undead rogue I named Proana. Was just an alt though and didn't play it much.

When I was like 14 I went through a pretty bad "woah, atheism is the best and I'm not gonna shut the fuck up about" phase. Had some screen names reflecting that.

I mean, I'm still an atheist, but I grew out of the r/atheism mindset in my teens (and before reddit was a thing), something a lot of internet atheists don't.

My first nickname on Starcraft's Battlenet was Galerian, because the Galerians game was super duper violent and totally badass*
My Phantasy Star Online character was called Xion, because Xion in Bloody Roar had white hair and was totally badass
My Ragnarok Online character was called Needles, because some throwaway One Piece character had that name and I guess he was totally badass too
At some point another nickname was RainXion, because one randomised name in FFTA was Rain which was so cool, but man Xion is still so awesome too, I know I'll just combine the two!

*I never even played that one, watched my brother play because I thought it was too scary, lmao

I've always had names that sound like game character names anyway, or at least tried.

Kalas
Zefar
Pankratous
Kessler
Ygzerion

Not sure if that counts as edgy.

Never used edgy names, but I did use dumb/foul ones. My two go-to names for local LAN games (UT, Quake, Halo, AoE2) were Sgt. Lobster and EatMyAss. I don't even remember why I used those names to be honest.

I used to main Team Iori in KOF 99

Does that count?

I don't think I can remember my old online gaming handles. I tend to pick silly things instead of craft an identity around it.

Well, I ended up having my XBL tag is XboxD3SignFlaw because I was cross with it when I bought it in '09.

And while not in tag or name, there was an ex-member (pretty well known) who used to type like anime characters stuttering trying to be cute. It was cringe worthy (and annoying) then and I am sure in retrospect it remains so even now.

I've been nicoga3000 for well over 10 years. However, my Runescape name has always been PurpleRoundy because he's my hero.

I just googled "edgelord" because I didn't know what it meant (means 'edgy', wow, renaming edgy is edgy).

So I'm thinking I must be the exact opposite: dull. Gonna change my username to "dullpeasant".

Hell naw. I've always been Dr. Slek....except for the times when I was Sir Walter Rowdy, The Holy Roman Empire, and the People's Republic of China.

I thought this read was going to be about how we admit what little shits we were online, not just names. Im still Nightmare on all my game accounts. DGAF

No, but I was an elitist grammar nazi as a teenager. I would lose my shit if people typed "u" or whatever. I still kinda get irked by it, but not as much. Sometimes I even type less proper on purpose to make myself sound less serious

Not since I was like 7. I used to draw bloody stuff and cool guys with guns, probably 'cause of DOOM and Wolfenstein and Duke 3D.

pretty sure i did the whole upper case/lower case name thing back as a teenager with

KiLLa kLoWn in PSO

think i also had O 6 M 6 E 6 N as a name on Tribes AA

I wasn't an edgelord, but i was just a giant fucking nerd. I had handles that were like "Darth" followed by a dragon Ball z character name.

I don't...

..know what you are talking...

...about....

...loser.....

*fades into the shadows, nodding both katana and fedora*

heh

nothing personnel, kid

Not really, if anything I've been basically the opposite. My first real online username I had was "ShinyEspeon" because I thought it sounded cool even though the actual shiny for Espeon looks terrible. After I got into a particular show I decided to name myself after one of the characters but since that name would obviously be taken I combined it with the "Shiny" part of my old name and got "ShiningRarity." Eventually I decided that just naming myself purely after a specific character wasn't that good an idea and decided to change my name to "Sylvee," partially because I like Sylveon and partially because I think the name sounds cool. Of course that's already taken so I threw a Shiny in front of it to make it work. I've always really liked colorful stuff and I was too busy being a massive nerd in high school to be edgy.

I'm a girl, so my equivalent of 'edgelord' was 'lol random cutesy' which is just as bad imo.

...my usernames have never reflected that though because I had the foresight to think "If this ends up being embarrassing, at least it's not public and permanent"

This also caused me to be less....cringe-worthy than some people I've met in the time between then and now.
