I picked Steam up after the price cut (playing on an iPad mini). I love Age of Steam but dislike its reimplementation as Steam -- and this app reminded me why, especially with the default map maxing out at four players. Specifically, I really hate how goods come out, the weak penalties against playing inefficiently, and how balanced the auction outcomes are.
The AI's pretty dumb/inefficient on even the hardest difficulty. The toughest part is trying to predict how high it will overbid (particularly against multiple AI opponents with different "personalities"). To be fair, most board game AIs are pretty weak (e.g., Agricola's), but in an auction game where you have to issue shares prior to the auction it is especially grating.
I'm hoping that the Basic game gets added in soon. The "Advanced"/auction game reminds me too much of the superior AoS.
