doesn’t it force you to go through the Rockstar launcher no matter where you buy it from? I was told this, not sure if true
yeah, it does. i do prefer steam but the reason i haven't bought it yet is because i have money in my Steam wallet that i'd rather use to buy it than spend money out my card.

i just wish rockstar weren't being dicks and would at least let me pre order it and maybe even give us a release date other than "December"

Depending on your hardware it’s pretty doable. I’m averaging 75 at 1440P at a good mix of settings.

You will be way over Xbox settings. I’m using a 9700k, 16GB and a 2070 Super and it runs great.

Sunk about 4 more hours into it last night and it ran great.

have you played it on console? i have it on PS4. i'm just wondering if it really feels better with a keyboard/mouse. the controls felt quite awkard

It feels way better with mouse/keyboard. Don't have to rely on auto aim/aim assist. The controls are a little confusing though. Some actions that were the same controller button are 2 different keys on the keyboard

Yeah. I have it on Xbox One X. It’s a million times better with KBM. General controls are fluid and quick. Plus now you have a bunch of buttons for other actions. My one suggestion is to map dead eye to a side mouse button vs the middle click. It also can be started with Caps Lock.

I had to stop playing the Xbox version because the controls were so heavy and lagged it was driving me nuts. Aiming felt really bad on a controller where now a head shot can happen so quickly it’s amazing.

Does anyone know for a fact what the difference is between a 1060 and 1070? Because I'm a 1070 man. I also will not be playing in 4K, probably 1080p to be honest.

So with RX580 I can have a little better settings than console on 1080p and 60 fps, or get 30fps with some higher settings? Am I getting this right?

The 1070 can do 1080p60 without much issue, just not anywhere near ultra. It'll still look better than console though.
I too am a 1070 man, personally I'll probably end up supersampling from 1440p with 2x MSAA and a touch of FXAA, then cap it to half refresh (42, still better than the consoles!). TAA looks awful to me unless it's combined with supersampling and if I'm gonna supersample I'm saying goodbye to 60FPS anyway, so might as well take the hit and just use 2x MSAA.

Any word on how much better the input lag is when running at 60fps?
Nothing official I can find yet, still waiting on Alex from Digital Foundry to drop the nitty gritty video on the settings. But, I can say from playing that it feels much better to play. Haven't tried with a controller, but with the m/kb it really feels like shooting is a fun and compelling reason to play. Where as of the probably 60+ hours of my playthrough on the One X, I absolutely hated shooting and played so much because the attention to detail and the world was so compelling. Now, I get to have all of it.

Can we at least agree to call these console settings Ultra Low from now on?

I reall don´t have issue with you calling them whatever you want.

that's every pc game released in the last 20 years. Why do you people want "optimized" ultra settings. Lower the damn settings. No one's going to give a shit about whether Ultra is "optimized" 5 years from now and Rockstar knows this.

Learn to quote, I didn´t write that.

It runs fine on potato processors...at 30FPS. It runs fine on high-end processors...just not necessarily while bottlenecking at ~120FPS at 1080p low with a 2080ti. Yeah, sure, totally sounds like a realistic use case.

Lower than low further intensifies.

Well clearly that's not true of RDR2, seeing as how it's able to peg a 4C4T CPU at 100%...something GTA5 is also able to do by the way. The only difference being that RDR2 will peg them at significantly lower framerates...almost as if it's more CPU demanding or something. Almost as if RDR2 was developed with the current generation of consoles in mind and GTA5 wasn't🤔

LOL no, dx12 and Vulkan are supposed to bring new air into old and potato processors, there are less excuses for cpu bottlenecks than ever.

I just want to see where that bold claim comes from, XboxX looks so close to PC ultra so it really needs clarification.

You can´t use task manager to interpret thread load like that, it offers no way to determine whether the main threads are constantly jumping cores or not.

Well you could try watching the video in the fucking OP. If you had you'd know DF said it...and DF isn't in the habit of making such claims if they're not true. Later today we're getting a video in which they will detail exactly which settings are lower than low.

I didn't do anything, Gamers Nexus did, so if you have an issue with their testing methodology then you should take it up with them, not me.

I did see it, claim is not backed up. And don´t try to pass your interpretation onto Gamers Nexus data.

Note: Some of Xbox One X's effects appear to be hybrid versions of low and medium, or medium and high. We'd recommend starting with the higher quality version, but should emphasise that the lower quality rendition of the effect still looks quite comparable across the run of play.

Had a good chuckle when Alex said "I'm going to start at the bottom. Going to the the XBOX 1X version....."

Consoles targeting high resolution modes using lower settings than PC max is not even news, if you think PC shouldn´t be able to handle this little extra detail with ease you probably have been brainwashed by the apologist (and paid focus group) rethoric of late which has been working on making pc gamers embrace things like 30fps, stick to 5 year old console resolutions, dispose of perfectly capable good cards and cpus, and accept console level of detail as the normal. Maybe they are preparing their business for ps5 era?, who knows :lollipop_tears_of_joy:

Very close:

Visually close to ultra settings.
...XboxX looks so close to PC ultra...
The more and more push back you got the more your response changed. It went from "It's very close to ultra" to "It's visually close to ultra" to "ackchyually that's not even news guise, we all knew it wasn't close to ultra all along".

I didn´t change anything lol, I made my statement more precise after that guy tried to straw man me. It is close to ultra settings (visually) because you have to look very hard to catch the difference, that hasn´t changed, and you had to wait for Digitalfoundry to make the work for you. But, whatever, you are better off ignoring the other part of my post.

Because I don't own the game yet. If I did I would've disproved your bullshit myself days ago. Hell, just a couple of days ago you were ranting about how low looks looks like shit and the visual fidelity is destroyed and you couldn't possibly set anything to low and not lose much visually 😂

You don´t need to own it, but you ignored the candyland video for some reason. (and those comments were specific to those pictures that now you are trying to distort). Base performance of the game is underwhelming as are the "ultra settings", and that´s it (as my position).

Ps.- People are uploading "best settings" videos with with 1060´s and 1050ti´s and they are going for 900p and 720p respectively :goog_beaming_face:

It feels way better with mouse/keyboard. Don't have to rely on auto aim/aim assist. The controls are a little confusing though. Some actions that were the same controller button are 2 different keys on the keyboard

I like the mouse look quite a bit for checking out the terrain, but hunting especially small game without the aim assist for controller is really a PIA. Add in that some of the PC controls are a bit confusing for the different actions, I've actually gone back to controller which I feel is just a smoother experience overall. But at a higher framerate and more responsive than on console. Best of both worlds imo.

I'd be more interested in what you need to hit 144+ fps, but apparently that's impossible because the game is so resource intensive.

Yet console is optimized enough that it looks near ultra levels for most cases(in pro consoles at least) . I played on base ps4 as well it was stunning if you dont mind some fps drops in city

It does not. No matter how much u want it to look like it.

Or else PC's would be flying this game at 200 fps at 1080p.

Nevermind. Apparently there's a bug that causes major stuttering if you hit 140+ fps.

So 60fps take 12 thread cpu (to avoid stuttering), 1080p, console like settings, and replace your gtx1060... good port, ok.
Not true, check out the cpu benchmark video by gamers nexus (they are the best in the business) 4 core 8 thread cpus do extremely well in this game. Even really old ones like the 2600k.

Well, yeah, sub 12t can give you problems depending on the processor.

GN already did further testing and the only 8T CPU to exhibit stuttering is the 9700K, and it's because it's hitting some kind of engine limit (and the 9700K is the only 8T CPU fast enough to reach this...infact it's the only CPU to exhibit this specific bug at all, the only way to get it to manifest on other parts is to overclock them far beyond what is achievable without exotic cooling). It's easily fixed by not allowing the framerate to reach ~120FPS, which considering how GPU heavy this game is, isn't hard. This is the same issue that causes GTA5 to stutter on 4T CPUs when hitting ~185FPS. In other words it's a long standing engine bug.
The stuttering on 4T/6T CPUs is unrelated to this.

But those tests are made only with turing. I think it has been mentioned the Pascal driver is making the game run pretty rough on 8t:
