DigitalFoundry: Hands-on with PS4 1080p 30fps...!!

60fps is something a dev asks the console maker they want to achieve upfront and works towards through the evolution of the engine and game.

I find it ridiculous that PS4 ,thou not surprising, no engine/game delivers 60fps. Clearly Sony and PS4 played a role in the inability for any 60fps games, not just dev problem.

The fact there are ZERO 60fps games on PS4 BUT there are on XB1 should speak volumes. And yes I'll say it again and again if I have to, MS have a beast of a machine that neogafers refuse to believe, final teardowns will prove this.. As for now the next gen engines and the games are showing this for us..

Theres been 60fps on ps1, ps2 & ps3 and there will be on ps4. Its a dev choice, you honestly believe its based on hardware if it can run 60fps?

Dudes like Shifty there are really good dudes who shares many things to us common rabble about many tech things.
Just go to Digital Foundry if you want to read his stuff, which I like as well. Then you won't have to suffer the extreme MS fanboyism over at B3D forums.

But isn't Leadbetter an extreme MS fanboy? That's what GAF has been telling me these past 5 years.
Haha that was only when the 360 was winning the majority of the face offs. Now that things are on much more even ground, Ledbetter is now fair and balanced. Don't you know how the mind of a fanboy works. :P

Only time I've seen something fanboyish from Rich was his comments on the FF13 360 version (The 360 could have been so much better, lazy devs!) compared to what he says when the PS3 version didn't look/run as good. However, the commentary can be skipped and he doesn't spread misinformation about what game runs/looks better on which system. I just look at the facts he reports and not which tradeoffs he would accept, because that's an individual opinion.

If anything I'd imagine the jump to new architecture would be hardest for the first party studios seeing as how they've never targeted the pc as a platform. All their engines need retooling. I'm already impressed with the visuals for a box that's not even out yet, and everyone knows the insane gap in quality between launch and closing. If some games are already 1080 and 60fps, I have no worries about this generation, I'm almost positive it will be the norm.

Guys look! We made it! The Console War!

Good to hear. The framerate looked really choppy in the E3 footage so I guess it was just early.

Yeah dude. Watch the video, apparently they got the game up and running in 3 months in time for e3. Thats ridiculous. If this was the PS3 they would have shown PC footage and said "Coming Soon."

It's seriously impressive how even small devs can get stuff up and running so quickly on PS4, especially when final devkits aren't even out yet. I can't imagine what a team like ND will be able to do if they have a 3.5 year dev cycle on PS4 like they did on TLoU.

That's why the J-Developers are going to make a MONSTEROUS comeback on PS4. The big guys can code to the bone truly, and the smaller devs will have so many middle ware options.

Never been a fan of jrpgs and other Japanesecentric games, but if they are able to put out titles like they (japanese game companies) did during the ps2 era then its game over for the competitors.

I've been hoping for this as well. As much as I love a lot of Western output right now I want Japan's creativity and innovation to make a comeback and start influencing the industry again. TGS will be interesting this year. I wonder if Sony will have aligned themselves with a lot of Japanese teams on the "Japanese development resurgence" line.

Dat "PC like" x86 architecture.

Can't wait to see what a Persona game will look like on this kind of hardware. Atlus, please deliver

Would love that.

Oh and about the framerate console war, it's pretty ridiculous. There is no magic. Games on PS4 or One that runs at 60 fps right now are just pushing less things on screen.

ND are going to release a PS4 game holiday 2014. Bank on it.

Verendus said that Sony have two jrpg projects one of wich is a huge project. He was right about FF 15 and eluded to kh3 he was wrong about them being exclusive though.

Weren't these games ran off of earlier PS4 dev kits when PS4 had only 4 GB's of GDDR5 RAM at the time?

I wonder if they'll up the graphics, etc. some more now that PS4 is confirmed to be using 8 GB's of GDDR5.

I hope this happens in which we'll see a return of the PS1/PS2 era (in which there were a lot of Japanese 3rd party games).

Having more system /video ram doesn't automatically improve the frame rate.

Oh, I'm sure. I could see both of their teams adopting a three year cycle.

Why three years, why not less? From looking at their release list, they usually don't need so much time:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naughty_Dog#List_of_games

I wouldn't be suprised if we see the reveal of a launch game from them at gamescom. Two years seems like plenty of time, and according to Cerny developing for PS4 does not take much time. We also know that they will use their "old" engine for the PS4, which will help, too.

I honestly think I would prefer more 60FPS games at a 'slightly reduced' visual quality than 30FPS 'high quality' games.

60FPS makes a tremendous difference to a game.

I hate how most games target 30FPS but in reality are 25FPS, which feels horrible. At least by targeting 60FPS any framedrops will feel negligible and will unlikely have any impact on the actual gameplay.

I was actually most impressed with God Of War 3 on the PS3. The entire game ran at about 45FPS, yet it was fast and fluid. Just what you want from a game. On top of that, it is the best looking console title out.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious how fickle people are.

Just like claiming B3D is pro-MS.. just because they don't allow mindless shit flinging threads dominating the forums..

I see loads of anti MS and pro MS stuff at B3D, and some nice contributions from devs or people actually in both companies..

This thread is pretty much useless, the only surprising thing for me is that Sony have been alledged to be 6 months ahead of MS in terms of game development and tools, but they seemed not to quite pull it together to show that at E3.

Yeah... that's not the reason.

i really hope this generation dont get bogged down with this 60fps bullshit.

60fps is great if it comes without large sacrifice. But if it do. i rather take solid 30. erryday.

hey guys, I really wanna know, does 60fps really matter?

I play my PC games at less than 60fps,,,I'm thinking about 30fps cause I like to max out the eye candy. It all seems smooth and immersive enough for me. (single player of course, I don't play too much MP except bf3)

What is it that 60fps brings that everyone is so obsessed with this gen? seems like all everyone is talking about these days.

LMAO. This isn't GameFAQ's you're on, bud.

You do realize that Microsoft didn't use the actual Xbox One hardware to showcase those games & instead used high-end PC's with high-end Nvidia GTX cards to make the games look much prettier & achieve 1080p w/60 FPS, right?

Xbox One games At E3 were running on Windows 7 with Nvidia GTX cards?

The PS4 games that were shown at E3 were ran off of actual PS4 early developer kits when they only had 4 GB's of GDDR5 RAM at the time.

PS4 - 1080p, 30 FPS
Wii U - 1080p, 60 FPS

I'm just saying, that's either terrible coding, terrible design choices, or both. Turn down the graphics from a 10 to an 8 and double that framerate!

You haven't played Lego City, have you?

The console isn't even out yet.

You might check other sources like DF... Forza, Ryse and KI were running on Xbone Devkits.
