Got any numbers for D2? I seem to remember that one dropping off.
They are superb numbers for these games. More than enough to keep N1 afloat for years.
dd2 did about 80k. the witch and the hundred knight did slightly better. i think dd2 was profitable while witch was not though- mostly because witch spent years in development hell.

it might be a case of nisa doing much much better with it than nisj. it all depends on whether or not d5 will come out before all of next year's rpgs or if it will lead the way. if it's leading the way, i think it does about 50-60k tops. if it's after the fanbase is being let in, it could do 90k-100k

Maybe NISJ can finally get the head out of the sand and allow for a western PC port. Right now I'm more concerned about the quality of the title itself since NIS hasn't been on fire lately and had some talent exodus.

I've bought every Disgaea game so far and there is no reason to stop now. Its funny how the Americans are buying this game series up while the Japanese seem to ignore it. They are really missing out.

Yup D4 and DD2 were using HD sprites.
Disgaea 3 was a whole lot of fun but those sprites took some getting used to.

I had a lot of fun with 3, but I'm pretty tolerant of last gen visuals.
(As in I don't mind at all)
Hour of Darkness and Cursed Memories respectively. PS2/PSP/PSN for both.
the handheld versions are the definitive ones. so afternoon of darkness on psp is the first game. dark hero days is disgaea 2 on psp. absence of detention is disgaea 3 on vita. a promise revisited is disgaea 4 on vita.
disgaea 1 is easily the most popular due to its cast, but disgaea 4 is a very close second. it's also the newest game (the vita release was a little over a week ago). they all have separate, contained stories, aside from disgaea dimension 2, which is a sequel to the first game.

I love Disgaea's 2D art, especially the gorgeous sprites in 4, but more than anything I don't trust the team to be able to make 3D models that don't look like garbage.
Kinda looks like Fem-Laharl from D2 with a few style changes.

edit: I wouldn't mind if they went full-polygonal, as long as they keep the anime aesthetic. They could make the character chibi-style and super cute, which would make a funny contrast to the hyper-violence happening on screen.

The point is that Disgaea's sprites are always (at least) one generation behind. Even though the sprites in Disgaea 4 were much better than the ones in 1-3, they were still comparable to PS2 games.

1)2d is not 3d, resolution is mostly the only difference between 2d games of different generations. You may not like Disgaea artstyle(like me for some reason) but if a 2d game is full resolution then you just can't say that technically is old gen.
2)at least Venus & Braves is a better comparison, but in Disgaea characters move(4 or more directions) in 3d environments, have lots of animations etc, the amount of work behind Disgaea animations is not comparable to what is in Venus & Braves.

My thoughts exactly. The girl could pass for Flonne. Maybe she decided to don more of a Fallen Angel look. And the guy on the far left looks like Valvatorez from behind w/o his cape.
But realistically, probably a brand new cast. And I'm okay with that. Bought all the games and spin-offs. I shall welcome the series to my PS4. Looks like PS4 exclusivity has hit it's stride and of course, the RPGs saves the day. That's gonna be the theme for 2015, JRPGs
I seriously need to stop getting sidetracked by item world everytime I play a NIS SRPG, and just beat the games.
I've every first release of the Disgaea games, Soul Nomad, Makai Kingdom, and the only one i've beaten is Phantom Brave lol. And that was years ago.
EDIT: I'd like to see some Super Robot Wars OG 2nd / SRW Z3 level attacks with this game, unless they already started to do that and i'm just not aware.
