Dishonored 2 PC performance thread

I've had 2 CTD's now since the latest beta patch. Its a fucking joke.

Clockwork mansion interior @ 1080p = 48-50 FPS
Clockwork mansion interior @ 1440P 38-40 FPS

Only 10 fps difference even with a bump in resolution that size.

1440p has roughly 77% more pixels than 1080p so the drop seems reasonable.

There is (almost) never a linear relation of resolution to framerate, because resolution is more dependent on GPU power, and framerate is more dependent on CPU power.
So if a game runs 30fps in 1080p there's no guarantee it would run 60fps in 720p, unless it was specifically optimized for it.

So what are the odds I'll be able to run this with a 670 4GB at 1920x1200? It just above min specs, but sounds like the port is a hot mess. I'll take low to medium settings. I loved the first and don't have a modern console.

Not worried about the cpu aspect, splurged on everything but I videocard on black Friday

So has the patch launched yet? I picked this up over Black Friday and have been holding off on it because I want the best possible experience when I play.

I've been waiting for confirmation the patch has resolved some of the most impact issues. Can't wait - really savored the original and would like to have an unblemished run through of 2.

Looking forward to robust patch impressions.

Running on ultra but with adaptive resolution turned on. I can maintain 60fps, but get stuttering/slowdown in some places. Are they still working on performance patches?

Latest patch didn't do much in regards to performance.

Are differences between ultra, very high and high are actually visible during normal gameplay?
I know ultra is broken and there's no excuse (it does not look good enough to warrant such poor performance) but perhaps playing on very high or high is the answer? Assuming it looks virtually the same and runs appreciably better.

The differences between high and ultra are mostly minimal. But the reflective water you get exclusively on ultra looks lovely. On very high or lower, water looks like a murky throwback to the last decade.

Yeah, I saw that. So there is no specific setting for water quality? Everything has to be in ultra to get the best water?

Then maybe it's the water quality that's responsible for poor performance?

So beta patch 3 is somewhere between the first and second patch in terms of perf. gain

Damn, I guess I won't be able to play this anytime soon :(

Too bad I gave them my money tho

Is this like one of the worst ports in pc released in recent times?

It's certainly the worst I've played in recent memory

Careful with that, theres a couple fanboyz here that are gonna get triggered if you say that.

From my point of view the game is pure fucking garbage and should have been reviewed on PC the way it runs not the way it actually is, I dont care if the art is top notch or gameplay is fantastic, you can't play it, and that's it.

When you realize we actually paid money for this garbage...

We're nearing a month after release and I still haven't picked up the game and played any further than the start of Karnaca.

The problem is.. I sort of lost all the hype that I had for it. Shame that I paid the full price of admission if I can't even get on the ride.

Have you tried it after the latest patch? The game is fantastic, you shouldn't give up on it.

I've lost all hype too. Nobody was more excited than me for this game.

I should have done all that for this game by now, but I've not even bought it because the PC version is such an abortion.

Sort it out Arkane :(

Have you tried it on your own PC? Just buy it, give it a couple of hours, and then refund if it doesn't run the way you want it to.

I really hate to say it, as Dishonored 1 was my GOTY 2012 and i love it, but D2 is my disappointment of the year. Ive actually uninstalled it now, i really dont care what they do to fix it right now, im done with it. Ill give it another try next year during the summer drought when it might hopefully be fixed by then. But honestly even the times when i did play it i found it nothing but a frustrating chore. The clockwork soldiers can suck a fucking flotilla of dicks.

Bought the game after the latest beta patch (the 33% discount tipped me over) and I must say, I've had no issues maxing out at 1440p and maintaining locked 60 throughout Karnaca and the throne room. Given the numbers seen in this thread, I thought there was no hope. I had my finger ready on the refund button but things have been really smooth!

Running Titan X (Maxwell) in SLI with 5930K. Yes, it is pretty high end, but I really thought this game would not hit locked 60 at any resolution maxed out. People were comparing it to Arkham Knight after all...

Still wish I could play at 4K. I can lock it at 30 but the INSANE mouse lag makes it completely unplayable!

I have a 290x and 4690k, judging by performance on rigs much better than mine I don't see the point of starting something only to have to stop again when I start to get invested.

Yes the game was "playable" for me on my i5+GTX 1070, but just looking around didn't feel smooth, so I decided to stop playing until there are no beta patches anymore. I'm not going to be a beta tester for this mess. What a disappointment after Dishonored 1.

At first, I was really frustraded with the performance. Now it's on a very acceptable level with a mix of high, very high and ultra @1440p. By far much better performance than at release. I can finally play this game.

Is this like one of the worst ports in pc released in recent times?

You know honestly if they would have just made the High/Very High mix the Ultra preset people wouldn't be upset so much I think, it's just the performance on Ultra isn't good, and that's what everyone wants to be able to play on.

I feel like UE3 or UE4 would be much better choice for this game. I don't understand why they didn't improve D1 engine or just move to UE4.

I guess the answer is: $

Yeah, royalty fees. The UE4 commercial licensing page states that "Once you've begun collecting money for your product, you'll need to track gross revenue and pay a 5% royalty on that amount after the first $3000 per game per calendar quarter." I'd guess the terms for UE3 are similar if not identical.

UE3 had a flat licensing fee. The new UE4 license is great for smaller developers, but for big triple A games that sell millions of copies, it's much much much worse then UE3 was.

Might be the reason why more developers are not using it.
To be honest i expected much more UE4 titles announced and released by now.

Nah, this isn't true at all. It's that old saying that keeps spreading that the pc master race just crank every optionup and is upset when it's not smooth. Most people here are that smart and know enough about PC gaming that they don't expect a game to run with 60fps at ultra while rocking a 970 or older. But when people with a GTX 1070, 1080, or SLI systems with mentioned cards, have stuttering and highly fluctuating fps from 30 to 60 depending on where you look in the game then there's definitely something wrong. Even more so when they not even have everything at ultra.

And that was the case with Dishonored 2.

I agree. Even DF and many others said that PC port is broken and that it should't have been released in that state. Just like Mafia 3 imo.

I would be playing this with an i5-4670k and a 980 @ 1080p. Would it be smart to buy it for that or for my PS4 Pro, or neither? Decisions.

With 1.3 I get a completely locked 60 fps on high @ 1080p. I7-4770k, 32 RAM, GF980.

Frame rate still sucks on Ultra, but at least the graphics options do something now which wasn't the case prior to 1.3.

Anyone tried playing with everything on High/Very High EXCEPT Water (which looks like shit at anything below ultra) - how's the performance then? And I don't mean just framerates, but also frametimes. Is it possible to finally get a locked 60fps with proper frame pacing (16.6ms) in 1080p on a high-end hardware (OC'ed 1080, OC'ed 6700K)?

The last update added 2-4 fps in some areas, played for 40 minutes and it still doesnt feel enjoyable.

They improved it a lot but .. no, just no

I have a 6700K and a 1070 clocked@ 2100Mhz.

To play at 60Fps with a stable frame time i had to force max performance in inspector. It was the only way to actually have a proper frame pacing.

Id5 man...what a dumpster fire.

At least now i can enjoy the amazing game buried underneath. :D

A lot of this just doesn't seem like it can mean good things for Prey, and that releases in a few moments if I'm not mistaken.

Quick edit...

I don't care what kind of a deal you can get, don't give Bethesda anymore of your money until you know these PC versions are solid. We're rewarding poor behavior/bad business practices.
