EDIT 4: Official Announcement
It is with great excitement that we can announce our most ambitious project ever – Divinity: Original Sin 2!

For a very long time we’ve dreamed of making a certain type of RPG. Something even bigger, better, and more engaging than Divinity: Original Sin. Now it might finally be within our reach. But we can’t reach that dream without your help.
As we made Divinity: Original Sin, our fans and community gave us two things: the freedom to make the game that we wanted to make, and the guidance to make a game that was even better than we planned. Your feedback pushed us in directions we never could have expected, and we’re so grateful for that push. Without the community, Divinity: Original Sin would never have been the success that it was, and now we’re asking for your support and guidance once again.

On the August 26th we’ll be returning to Kickstarter with Divinity: Original Sin 2, but you don’t have to wait until then to have your say. We’ll want a lot of feedback as we progress, but right now we want to know what YOU want from the Kickstarter campaign. So please head over to our Divinity: Original Sin 2 page to suggest what rewards you’d like to see, and vote on the rewards that others have suggested!

We’re very excited for you to get your first glimpse at what we’re creating, but if you’re going to be at PAX Prime at the end of August then we can go one better, We’ll be at booth #6011, where we’ll have a playable prototype for you to get your hands on and experience some of the fantastic new features that we’ve been working on.
Making Divinity: Original Sin with you has been one hell of a ride so far, and we’re happy to say that this ride is only getting started…

EDIT 2 : Larian blog post.

EDIT: No console version has been mentioned. In fact, no platform has been announced.

Found this while browsing rpgcodex. If No one is toying with my heart, I am backing this so hard.

So this artwork leaked. Being reported by an Italian site.

Someone forgot a 2 in the title...

Still exciting. Still need to play through the original but I will probably do that on PS4. Not that happy with the performance on my Mac.

Surprised that they want to go the Kickstarter route again after the game seemed to do pretty well, but great news nevertheless.

That's fantastic!

I'm looking forward to playing the original game for the first time on PS4, so to know a sequel is coming too makes things even better.

Considering this is a kickstarter, I'm kind of disappointed they didn't follow it up with something different I guess. I mean InXile went from Wasteland to Torment to a Bard's Tale. Larian following up Original Sin with something like their Ultima VII inspired 'RPG to end all RPGs' instead of Original Sin 2 would have be way more interesting and eye catching for a kickstarter.

"Original Sin II"

You might as well have called it "Derivative Sin".

Look, Final Fantasy has like a gadzillion billion games so cut Larian some slack yeah? :)

I hope NPC scheduling finally gets implemented!

I expected new IP as well - and Larian needs another hit IP in their stables.

Weren't they in negotiations for an established IP sometime ago? I wonder what happened with that. The thing about Original Sin is that while the game is fantastic, the story was just serviceable, it's all about the mechanics and world-building and design. They could take those three elements and put them into a Vampire The Masqurade RPG, an Ultima RPG, pretty much anything and make it fantastic as well. Original Sin 2 just seems like the least interesting path they could have taken.

They said that they had to projects going on. Original Sin II is one. Now we wait and see what the other is.

I love most of the previous game, especially the combat. All I hope for is better writing/story.

Apparently there was only one writer for the game for a long period of time. Then the writer of Dragon Commander moved on to Original Sin when she was done with her work. So, while I have complained about the writing, I am willing to actually cut them some slack for the writing in Original Sin. I hope this won't be the case for this game.

SparkTR: You're right. Reading the article, the platforms are about the first game.

I hope they'll tell a more interesting story this time, the first one was awful in that regard. The Gameplay was fantastic tho.

I'm not sure if Larian could handle a VTM RPG which is much more serious in tone and portrays a very different atmosphere from the games Larian has made up until now. I didn't expect Divinity: Original Sin II to be honest with their enhanced edition of the original still in development. Interested to hear their reasoning.

I don't know why this needs a Kickstarter, wasn't the first one fairly successful?

Edit: Also, why not wait until it launches on consoles, maybe you could use that money too ?

I'm definitely keen for a sequel. Original Sin was absolutely amazing. In the past 18 months, I've only pledged to a handful of Kickstarters, SR: Hong Kong, Underworld and STRAFE, but I wouldn't hesitate supporting Larian again.

oi 'streamlined'.

cautiously optimistic.

Actually the news didn't said anything about the platforms
The news said
"Larian Studios ha annunciato Divinity: Original Sin II, sequel dell'eccellente RPG uscito lo scorso anno su PC e approdato poi anche su console."

Which could be translated in

"Larian Studios has announced Divinity Original Sin 2, the sequel of the marvelous RPG released last year on PC and then on console as well."

Really cool news, haven't played the first one yet. Will definitely fix that soon.

I'll assume they are going to make the base game anyway but the kickstarter could be used for additional things.

Removed the platforms from the OP.

Why use Kickstarter again?

Pure speculation from me, but it could be that they have funds to make the game and this campaign will be like the first. Whatever they get from the KS campaign will be there to enhance the game. Day/night cycle, please.

ah good. I guess we will find out late august.

Divine Divinity: Original Originity Sin Sininity II

Look forward to seeing what it is. I'm still waiting on the EE patch to finish playing the Original Original Sin.

I visited the studios in Ghent this summer to test the PS4 edition of Original Sin and I saw a lot of artwork on the walls, and next the Divinity: Orginal Sin and Dragon Commander sections of the wall there was an concept art board for "The lady, the mage and the knight".

For anyone not familiar with Larian, this was to be their first game project around mid 90's. They could not make this then, but to me it looked like that was gonna be their next project. I recall Sven talking about their dream RPG project being next, so when I put those two together...

KS worked perfectly for them during the development of OS and the feedback from the early access on Steam did wonders for them. I guess they are going for the same approach this time.

Because it was such a big success the first time. If they can basically pre-sell tons of copies of the game and some overpriced special tiers that's just money in the bank for them. I don't think they need to, but who would turn down a cash advance when they have so many fans after the previous game's success.

I don't particularly think it means additional features, but they obviously took fan feedback in to account before.

Nice, definitely glad to hear that. If they were ever going to get started to that project, there's never been a better time that now when they're undergoing massive growth.
