DmC: Devil May Cry demo out on November 20th/21st [Videos available now!]

I'm sure the game will be largely linear with an artificial sense of scale. Cutscenes will probably all be skippable, so I wouldn't worry about that.

The long ones probably will be, but the "camera pans over to reveal new enemies" or "now the room is changing form" type stuff might not be. And they seem plentiful in this short clip.

I'm sure they'll be skippable. DMC3 and 4 had short intros like that or scenes where barriers would break. The majority of those were skippable.

Saw the game play clip, game is looking a bit better than before. There are small new visual touches like when you press angel trigger there is a blue/green glow on Dante. The after effects on Rebellion have been touched up too. It might have been the open circular area but the camera seemed improved. The guy playing it was also much better than before he was canceling the Osiris launcher early for crispier combos and he was also using the aerial neutral dodge to good effect.

Also I already knew they were using the DMC4 upgrade system when I saw the Proud soul currency system.

Will you play the demo or you're waiting for the PC demo, Dahbomb? I'd like to see what you find out while messing around with the combat.

and he was also using the aerial neutral dodge to good effect.

I might take the credit for that. They probably knew it before I did, but I have to say I only saw they using it on official videos after I asked Greg to try to do it on the Capcom Unity stream lol

I was wondering since the floating time is pretty big for aerial slashes, if he could do like 3 aerial rave hits and then neutral dodge to reset the chain and aerial rave again and he did it.

Ok, I'm probably being too cocky for thinking it was me, just wanted to say :C

It's probably safe to say the demo we're getting shows off much of this content. That'd be sweet. Though I wouldn't mind if they included the Underwatch and Poison boss again. The footage shown in the videos is noticeably much better than any of the convention footage. I'm confident the game will be pretty sharp once it's out.

BTW, can a mod change the title so it says new videos have been added?

Watched the new videos and I'm still not too impressed. I can't stand the enemy designs. They look like they came from some 3rd rate western horror game like the Suffering. One of the videos show off an enemy introduction which is something DMC was known for and where games like Bayonetta truly shined. Red screen, black text enemy splash with no personality whatsoever. Dante obtains his scythe/hammer/whatever it's supposed to be in one of the videos and there's barely a scene showing off the new weapon. What happened to Dante flipping out and rocking out with a new weapon? It's all the little details that seem to be missing for me. Also, is there even god statues anymore with awesome unique power-up music? Or can you now just lifelessly pull up an upgrade menu with no personality and upgrade on the fly?

Well, I'd like that Hunter Demon boss fight over Poison, but yeah, at least one boss fight in the demo would be cool. I'd like to see if I can beat Poison without touching the ground, and if it's possible to enemy step on her.

I was never really a hater of the game, but I'm getting a lot more interested. After RE6, this couldn't possibly be similarly disappointing. Doesn't hurt that it's one of my favorite genres and it's been dry for while.

I'm still concerned about how much linear traversal there will be, and there seem to be a lot of mini-cutscenes, both of which work against replayability (a core strength of the genre) IMO.

The moving environments will be cool once or twice, but the combat (if it's good) will be cool for a lot longer.

"DmC: It's not worse than RE6" - NeoGAF

Back of the box quote right there

I will be trying out the console demo for sure.

Also getting large amounts of air time in this game is going to be a cake walk.

No way this game is going to be worse than RE6.. I already said that right after I beat RE6. DmC at least isn't trying to shoehorn in 4 different campaigns for the sake of pleasing everyone. At least DmC is an imitation of DMC....RE6 isn't even an imitation of a RE game.

They also confirmed DLC costumes for the game, but you can unlock them playing it instead of paying, it's just early access.

Is Capcom finally learning?

They nerfed the style gain to acceptable levels now. The guy playing was decent and it took him a while to get into S territory.

I still think the hitbox on Osiris is out of control and the base dodge is too good. Man I need that demo yesterday...

Also the enemy design in the game has been extremely lackluster. Aside from those large rat enemies all the other enemies look very similar. You give them a shield, chain saw, wings, make them blue/red but they are still generally the same type of enemies. All treading into generic.

Yes, there are divinity statues in the game where you can buy and upgrade.

Hmm...well, does anyone even know if there's even an unique track for the upgrade music? This is my standard. They all have great divinity statue tracks. Christ, DMC 2 had an awesome statue track too. It's the little things that matter to me at the end of the day and if DmC can't even get that shit right then I don't have much hope for this.

The hitbox that bugs me the most is the enemy step's, it's fucking HUGE

The High Time hitbox was the one that stood out to me, at 1:40 of the Home Truths video. That shit is like Snake's aerials from Brawl; you think you're out of range, think again.

The timing windows and hitboxes for damn near everything in this game are huge, that's why the combat might look somewhat good visually, but it didn't feel like I was doing much of anything.

I'm not a great DMC player, but I could do everything seen in the videos so far.

The only thing that gave me a bit of trouble was the parry and that was only cus of the death knights animation confusing me more than anything.

Wow new videos look great. It won't be the purist Devil May Cry I have come to terms with that but as a general action game? Pretty solid looking.

Well, to be fair all the videos are pretty basic so far. I even remember the launch trailer (if I'm not mistaken) for DMC HD Collection showing something like like /\ /\ /\ several times in a row, like it was supposed to be a good combat showcase. At least compared to DMC HD, this game has much more in depth combat in the official trailers, even though it's still kinda basic.

isn't that the point? It seems fine to me.
It's too good. So good that it negates the application of the demon pull because why use that to pull someone below when Rake can pull them up while doing damage, increasing meter and pulling multiple enemies at once.

Plus any melee weapon that has hitboxes extending beyond the screen is wonky. It works for projectile based attacks but not for physical attacks.

Well, if that's the case we need more broken moves. Fuck devil bringer.

Unlockable difficulties are as expected, With Human, Devil Hunter and Nephilim standing in for the standard Easy, Medium and Hard settings

Son of Sparda - Enemies get tougher, attack waves are remixed.

Dante Must Die - Contains the strongest enemies and insane attack waves

Heaven or Hell - The remixed mode, but everyone and everything, including Dante, dies after one hit.

Hell and Hell - The same as above, but only Dante dies after one hit.

There's probably some trophy for Hell and Hell that I'll have to get. FUCK

Where did you see that?

And there was no trophy/achievement for H&H that I can recall. Plus H&H modes aren't scaled to DMD mode but rather SOS mode.

That's a shit load of difficulties. Good on NT making Hard selectable from start.

So if I am reading this right:

Human
Demon Hunter
Nephilem
Son of Sparda
DMD
Heaven/Hell
Hell/Hell

I hope this time they have the balls to scale Hell to DMD or higher difficulty.

Just bring it already.gif

well that challenge is the perfect challenge to stream but with some immense practice

That's an interesting point. I'm hoping that the game will be smarter than that to allow the enemies to keep clear, which negates the rake.

Yeah, I guess I should have linked to that:

Nephilim/Hard mode unlockable at the start, you guys know which one to pick.

That's good of them to make hard mode unlocked from the beginning. Also, those four extra modes sound great.

There should be a Hardcore mode Diablo/Darksiders style. Hardest difficulty, one combat death equals save file deleted.

They are basically adopting the DMC3SE + DMC4 seeings. Easy, Normal, Hard, Very Hard, DMD and the others from DMC4. They left out one which most likely will be on PC version: Legendary Dark Knight mode.

PC version also had a trainer mod made by users which allowed for a new difficulty called God May Cry. That shit would probably not fly in todays games.

Hey kids, there's two character action games coming out a month apart!

One is by the people who made Enslaved, Heavenly Sword, and Kung Fu Chaos!

And one is made by the people who made Bayonetta, Vanquish, Max Anarchy, Okami, and Godhand!

Liking the videos. The inclusion of a combo practice room is something the DMC games should have put in 11 years ago. Good to see it in here.

Considering I'm capable of playing more than one game a year....I'm not hesitant to give either a try.

Is this image seem strange to anyone else?

Young Dante's head is too big for his body. Also his mother is an angel in this version of DMC so that makes sense.

Otherwise the image is fine. His mother is an angel in this DmC so that explains the imagery.

You forgot DMC1 and VJ. Also I don't think the two games are going to that far apart in terms of quality. I could be wrong but at least from what I have seen thus far MGR isn't a full tier above DmC yet.

Now I'm a bit interested in this

They also both have their own threads.

DMC HD Collection videos were never trying to showcase good combat.
