Do women prefer buff guys?

Noticed another thing, pretty much every pic so far has had the guy completely shaven. Us hairy bastards don't seem to be too popular.

That's not fair. I can't speak for other women, but I love a hairy chest. Hairy arms and legs are nice too. Really the only thing I'm not a big fan of is super hairy backs/shoulder area.

I'm about 150lbs and relatively toned, not really muscley or anything, sorta short too, I'm only 5'9". I've never had any problem getting girls.

I think what the media shoves in it's audience's face and what people actually give a shit about are two separate things.

I'm not a woman. But as a straight man, I would catch for Greg Puciato any day

I've seen some very fit women who lift weights and have incredible bodies, and I've seen women who really don't do anything that have great bodies. The latter are the ones I've dated the most.

I think it is similar to how some people like big boobs and some don't really care. In general it is probably preferred.

Actors on TV don't even fit in this context.

I am going to generalize a bit here so don't get mad.

It is really hard to get to a point where you have what people would consider 'too much muscle' and have a low body fat percentage without using steroids. If you have ~10% body fat and a decent amount of muscle you are going to look great to almost everyone.

If you have the personality of a brick it doesn't really matter what you look like though.

IIRC, statistically, most women prefer a mixture of thin + muscular, a la Brat Pitt in Fight Club or the Twilight wolf.

In my opinion, buff doesn't seem all that attractive. It's nice to see a guy that is buff, but in the end it's all about personality and who they are as a person that makes me more interested in them, not their muscles or how fit they are.

My belly has been melting away over the last 2 months. I'm down to 225 from 240, which doesn't sound like a lot, but I've gained a significant amount of muscle and am down 2 belt loop holes. It's always nice when your friends' wives comment on it. I'm definitely getting more looks than I was.

How buff we talkin? I think in general, women are physically attracted to muscular guys. Now of course that's just physical attraction and not overall attraction which includes personality, intellect, etc...

Going to report my findings. Feel free to correct if you don't have a penis.

You can't group everyone together, as many have pointed out, but usually women don't mirror men in terms of their priorities.

Women prefer sexy, seductive men. Being physically attractive can play a role in this (and being physically unattractive can certainly disqualify someone) but it's just not the central focus. Separate those two things out.

That said, if we do pretend it's all that matters, I would think most women prefer healthy and toned above mass and size. Mass and size, again, as others have pointed out, is more typically a male fantasy.

I believe I just added nothing to this discussion. My work is done.

Yup, women like to feel protected generally, and masculinity is attractive.

Same goes for some gay guys too who assume roles.

Around Asia, one thing I've noticed is that the only guys who are buff as hell, with muscles on top of muscles, are gay. There are a lot of straight lean muscular guys, like the build of a basketball or soccer player, but guys who are jacked as shit are almost always walking hand in hand with another jacked as shit guy.

I've never seen a girl not consider a guy because he was too muscular. Most dudes aren't body builder status, so being between that and a normal physique is your best bet.

And make sure you have a big penis too.

Well, I'm not a woman, but I am a gay male, so... I am personally not really into super buff very muscular guys. It's actually a bit of a turn off. I prefer the leaner, toned, fit guys. Some muscles is fine/good, though.

Like I'm not into that guy WoodenLung posted at all. Way too much for me.

Personally, I love a hairy chest. Maybe not a rug full of hair, though. Just depends on everything else.

Go to China, Japan or Taiwan. Girls over there like their men skinny...

My personal experience is that yes women have physical preferences. Since I was the lifting weights kinda of guy I was often pursued by women who like buff dudes. However I knew plenty of girls that preferred the sickly, yet shredded rockstar type.

Personality goes a long way however. Give a girl a skrawny guy and they may look at him like he is sick. If that same guy has wit, personality and charm then he is all of sudden hot. The same goes for a buff guy. Just looking at them, they may think they are dumb goons, but with some charisma and personality they shoot up on the interest level.

Benidict Cumberbatch didn't get the same level of love from women prior to his Sherlock character, but now that women are introduced to a witty, genuine, charismatic Benidict he is pined over. Personality can make or break it.

I'm thin as fuck and girls like me.

I guess it's a matter of preference. I wouldn't say I'm conventionally attractive though.

As guuurl.

I've fallen for a lot of shapes and sizes. I would rather not date/do overweight, certainly don't want to be sweated on (not that much).

If you wanna slim done and buff up I have nothing against it and might even like it. :)

As some have pointed out, I don't like giant, big muscles.

I don't know, all these pics of shirtless, muscular dudes are just a turn off for me. I guess I'm attracted to the more humble look, because most of the guys I'm seeing here aren't doing much for me.

Except this guy;

What about Greg Grunberg, ladies?

greg-grunberg-super-8-premiere-01.jpg

A lot more of a subtle charm to him.

None of the women I've ever dated have been into buff guys. Now, all of them are into a good level of shape, but I think those are two different things. Then again, I'm a skinny but in-shape person, and the women I've dated are probably specifically into that.

But with anything, I think there is variation. Some women are into buff guys and some are not. Just like some guys are into girls with big butts and large breasts and some are not.

A sheath for every sword.

The most reasonable answer is that women are individuals and have different opinions and tastes towards male body types.

From what I have seen and asked personally the majority only care that you are in a healthy range and have healthy behaviors.

The brad Pitt fight club is the perfect body for a man

No question, he was in excellent shape and it's admirable, I certainly can't match his physique in the movie, but he did a lot of work to look like that.

But that image also started a fairly pronounced bout of "manorexia", and constantly struggling to ft oneself into a specific body image isn't healthy regardless of your gender.Men should take more time to be healthy than hot. Zac Effron is a great looking dude and a reasonable person (I hear, not that I know), but I'll never feel bad for not being able to look like him.

Exercise, work on being (and staying) strong, eat well, and avoid excessive indulgences- and be happy that you can, because not everyone is able to enjoy the body that you have. Ask anyone with ALS or MS if they want to be buff or just able to have a normal day.

Look back 30 years, 75 years, 150 years... 'attractive' is absolutely fluid, it's never been a constant. Buff in 1950 was NOT the same buff as in 1790. Hell, by 2114 we might all be on mandatory HGH and look like Arnold.

I love his face--just so adorable.

Women prefer slightly buff for the most part. Problem is when men think buff, they think Arnold or Stallone.

You think men get that big for girls? Nope.

That's either a fixation because they make it into a career, or its a drive for power. Or you make it a life style. Maybe a dude gets super huge for one girl, but I doubt it... Once you get her your gains go to shit.

Generally, I'm into skinny to toned men. And by skinny, I mean David Tennant skinny.

I'm positive that I could break him. >>

But I wouldn't say no to a buffer guy as long as he had a pretty face. I'm at the moment crushing on Alicde even though he has facial hair and doesn't have the body type that I'm attracted to.

He's cute in both personality and looks.

I am going to post more gifs of Tom Hiddleston as Loki. Just because I now actually have a legitimate excuse to do it.
(Uh, just let me know if this is too many gifs for a post!)

(Obviously, not all straight or bisexual women prefer buff men!)

Gah, he's so pretty. I'm in love with his hair. And his face and his voice.

this is eerily close to my body type, 7 years of work

tho my obs ain't there, and my pecs are slightly bigger

it's really interesting how varied the male form is, so many permutations of muscularity
