Do you know anyone who puts ketchup or A1 on a steak?

Steak doesn't need sauce.

I didn't realize it was unusual to eat ketchup on eggs though. Everyone in my family does it and so do most of my friends.

Only sauce for a steak!

First time I ate steak at Peter Luger my medium rare came out gray and destroyed. Dude was embarrassed and fixed it in ten minutes but man of all the places to eff that up...

Also I love to dip a good rib eye in a whisper of steak sauce and I feel no shame.

Steak is the only thing I put ketchup on, I can't stand it on anything else. I only use it for cheap steaks. If it's well prepared it doesn't need it.

I used to when I was younger because my mom always made steak well-done to the point of chewiness.

Then as an adult I discovered medium-rare and everything changed.

This was my situation exactly. My mom made sure it was well done every time.

The first time I ate steak at my girlfriend's house in high school I was planning to force it down with a smile for the sake of being polite. Instead, a medium rare filet landed on my plate and holy shit!

I pour garlic sauce on my mash potatoes and scoop it up with the "medium" steak bite at the end of my fork.

Is that okay with you, OP? This is important.

I never actually had a well prepared steak until my early 20s, so it was normal for me to use some kind of steak sauce. I would even use ketchup sometimes if there was nothing left. Then the magical day I actually had a juicy well prepared steak that shit went right out the window.

Done both in my youth before I knew there was way better ways to eat steak aka not well done.

Now days I get medium rare, and eat it plain. Will use a bit of steak sauce if the cut of meat isn't that great.

This is one of my lotto winning fantasy, if I wan 60 million or something stupid. I would make a reservation at the most expensive, highest class steak house in new york. Order a medium rare T-bone, and a glass of the most expensive wine. Then when the meal is served and the chief and wait staff is watching me I would take one bite, and sip of the wine...nod to them in appreciation...then proceed to empty little plastic packets of McDonald ketchup onto the steak as I drop a few ice cubes into the wine. Then take a bite and go ohhhh much better.

I have used A1 before on a steak which was overcooked.

I have never seen anyone put ketchup on a steak.

A1 is good stuff though, I dip other things in it all the time.

No. I don't eat ketchup. I'll have it once every year or two. Steak sauce is a never. I've had some things called steak sauce that were dressed up ketchup, and I like them on other things, but only as ketchup. Fries, hotdogs, that's the kind of thing I'd put it on. A1 though? Absolutely never. It smells like something that should be kept in a 50 gallon steel drum and used to take the paint off of large steel structures, like telephone towers or the Golden Gate Bridge. And it tastes worse.

It seems like everyone I know puts A1 on their steak though. A guy at work wanted me to eat some of the steak he brought for lunch. It was smothered in A1 and I had to politely decline. I took a girl out for dinner a few weeks ago, she got a steak and covered it in A1. I don't get it, the stuff is absolutely terrible.

When I was a child I would have done so myself but since I'm older (14) I learned that meat is supposed to taste like meat not ketchup. I'm still addicted to that stuff and eat a lot of it but only with meals that need it: fries.

Never saw someone put anything on steak except garlic-butter or herb-butter (is this even a word) also when I make steak at home I would not put any sauce on the table and no one dares to ask. Have one friend who eats it well-cooked though. I fucking hate that. Always prepare him the most unappealing looking slice I got because it tastes like garbage anyway.

I'll use A1 on occasion regardless of the quality of the steak. I'd say that 1 in every 12 times I eat a steak I'll use some. Sometimes I'm just in the mood for it. I also really like A1 sauce with grilled chicken.

I'd understand it if someone puts A1 (but not ketchup) on a poorly prepared steak or if a steak has been mistreated and cooked well done.... But anyone who tries to put either on a steak I've prepared will get their hand chopped off ;p.

Not ketchup but I put pepper sauce on my steaks, yep even the black angus rib-eye fillets I get every week. It's so good my butcher uses it too.

Consider me a heathen, but dip my steak in A1 and even put it on my burgers. I'm a man who loves my sauce almost more than the food it goes on.

Never. Even when I used to eat meat, I had an habit of avoiding the ketchup on the meat, making sure it only came in contact with the chips. I would put tabasco sauce, though.

Although right, I don't mind putting ketchup on tofu steak and seitan burguer patties...
