It's the same problem when I try to pronounce GIF. How do you guys pronounce it anyway?

I pronounce it like when you say "Gift." Take away the T. I've heard it pronounced as JIF before though.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GIF#Pronunciation
The creators of the format pronounced GIF with a soft "g", /ˈdʒɪf/, as in "George". However, many people pronounce GIF with a hard "G", as in a 'gift' IPA: /ˈɡɪf/, reflecting the way it is pronounced in its own acronym (Graphics Interchange Format). According to the creator of the GIF format, Steve Wilhite, the pronunciation deliberately echoes that of an American peanut butter brand, Jif, and the employees of CompuServe would often say "Choosy developers choose GIF", spoofing this brand's television commercials. This pronunciation was also identified by CompuServe in their documentation of a graphics display program called CompuShow.[2]. Both pronunciations are given as correct by the Oxford English Dictionary[3] and the American Heritage Dictionary.[4]
I go with "jif".

:O Wow. Thanks. I'll still pronounce it my way, but that was interesting to read.
It actually really annoys me whenever I read that story. I don't know why. And I use the hard G because of it.

Same here. I think it has more to do with the ass hattery involving the patent.

I only ever vocalize it as "this video game forum that I go to even though I don't play video games anymore but it has a somewhat interesting off-topic."

In my head I pronounce it as "gaffe," though.

Actually whenever I mention it to my girlfriend or her sister, it is always "gaming age forum".

Call me old fashioned but that's how it is.

GAF dude, just GAF. Wtf with Gaffe ?

The word "gaffe" is pronounced exactly the same as Im sure you're saying "gaf". The difference is, "gaffe" is actually a word.

the word gaf has been used so much now that i think it should be an urban dictionary word or something.

You know you browse this forum too much when people take note of the fact that you browse the same damn place all the time and have to ask what is that site you're on all the time.

"what's Neo-gaffe?"

"It's the second iteration of GAF"

"What's GAF?"

"Gaming Age forums..."

and inevitably because you don't want them thinking you're a loser nerd that sits on a gaming forum all day (even though that's exactly what you are), you launch into an explanation even when not prompted for one;

"it's an industry famous gaming forum with a very healthy off-topic side, which I use as a news and current events collater, and also have very healthy and lively debates on..."

and by that time they've lost interest and walked away.
