Does anyone buy gaming magazines anymore?

No one shall be brought before our LORD David Bowie without the true and secret knowledge of the Photoshop. For in that time, so shall He appear.
I hadn't in some time, but I recently got that new ipad, which makes magazines look gorgeous on the screen. I started getting back into Retro Gamer, which is a super high quality magazine about old school games and companies. I highly recommend it.

What do you read, or has the Internet taken over?

Edit: For anyone who wants to skip this thread and just have a good recommendation, a commonly suggested mag is **Retro Gamer**. Get it in real life at book stores like B&N, or grab it on your iPad. (I'd only recommend this is you have a retina screen iPad.)

No. Most of them are shit and out of date buy the time they hit the news stands.

I used to read EDGE religiously but hate it since the last redesign.

I guess, having been playing games for 30+ years I am also at a stage where I don't need the input of a print journo to tell me what's of interest to me.

it's 2012. everything i need in my life is on the internet.

I don't, I do find myself wanting to read some of the magazine previews for some of the games, because I find some of the internet gaming sites really incompetent, but I don't know if magazines are good alternatives, but I've noticed a lot of info on forums are usually from magazines.

Yup, have a subscription to GamesTM and buy Retro Gamer most issues as well as a few other UK mags now and again.

Had a Famitsu sub a few years back as well, until I realised it was costing way to much and all the important info was on the internet a day early anyway.

I get Game Informer because of my gamestop reward card. I actually asked them if I could have them not send it to me, but in the end it was easier to just accept it.

I recently bought a single issue of EGM (Borderlands 2) and thought it was hit and miss. Gotta accept that the old EGM is dead and gone and won't be back. I may get more in the future depending on whats inside.

Retrogamer is amazing. I get it at Barnes & Noble when I can remember to go. As somebody who has been gaming since the early 80's, I love this magazine for the nostalgia and the informative pieces. History of Final Fight? Sega Saturn buyer's guide? I love it.

I was a rather regular Edge reader for 3-4 years. I stopped buying it when they changed the design several months ago. Maybe I'll get back to it, but not for now. I'll probably subscribe to gamesTM and Retro Gamer, too.

Once in a while I grab a copy of Game Informer or EGM but that's about it,I use to buy them every month(Gamefan,EGM,Gamepro etc etc)

The one I would get regularly and is still out there is OXM but now they have a disc free copy at the newstand but it's still sells at 12.95 up here in Canada so I stopped buying that.

I buy still gamesTM from my local Tesco every four weeks and I subscribe to Custom PC magazine, that's all. I like the retro section in gamesTM plus its nice to have something to read in the bath, otherwise the internet is far better and more up to date for games news and, especially, reviews. You also have the convenience of video reviews and previews on sites like GameTrailers. Magazines are really becoming all but extinct as they're invariably out of date by the time they hit the shelves anyway.

No. There's almost never anything interesting in there that I don't already know about. I also rather read about random peoples experiences on the internet than a one sided review.

I used to buy Retro Gamer, from the first issue too, but dropped it after they did a special about the Metal Slug games a few years back and the author of the article had a huge rant about how he personally disliked MS3 and people who were fans of it were stupid. Completely unprofessional and I was done with the magazine if they wanted to print opinionated trash and not "just the facts ma'am".

The resulting shitstorm from the NeoGeo community lead to some great retorts such as this so it wasn't all bad;

Still get Game Informer sent to my house but I've never paid for it. Dunno why but keeps me well stocked for toilet reading and emergency bog roll if the need should ever arise.

I get Game Informer because it's so cheap and Edge sometimes if I flick through and see some features that interest me.

Considering how Game Informer is becoming more and more popular each day...

I guess yeah. Not me, though. I had an EDGE subscription, but it ended I have no intention of restoring it.

I picked up Nintendo Power last month for the Kid Icarus AR cards and enjoyed reading it so much, I'm adding a subscription.

I forgot what it was like to read real articles on games compared to tweets and message board posts.

I have discovered Scroll through this thread, looks pretty cool, can anyone talk a bit of it so I get more info?

Once it was a pleasure cycling around local newsagents, trying to find the latest issue of Crash or Zzap64. But I stopped buying print media a while ago. Even the magazine reviews worth reading are online.

I spent the money on a Giantbomb premium sub instead.

Nintendo Gamer for the humour. Also useful for a monthly summery of news that I may have missed. Another thing is that since they like to play shit games as well I become aware of the stuff the other outlets ignore, like this gem of a game.

I buy EDGE every month and occasionally buy Retro Gamer if the cover story is interesting. Bought a couple of issues of Scroll too, the Dragon Quest issue was great, really cool original artwork in it too!

Not anymore. The German magazines are pretty sucky and always outdated. I used to love buying gaming magazines but usually I already know all the news in it before it even hits the stand.

Nope. Too much emphasis on previews/reviews(especially reviews), why would I wait to read them? More focus needs to be put on things that you do not get on the Internet. More focus on features/retro

I took a shot subscribing for $15. I figure if I like more than three issues, it was money well spent. How was NP's coverage of E3 in the mag last year?

Only PC magazines if there is a very good full version included, a very interesting review/preview article or e3 issues.

Every once in a while if I go on a vacation or take a road trip. Even then it's not really necessary because I bring my iPad, but it's nice to have I guess.
