I would love to use the suspend and resume feature on my PS4, but it's so intermittent that I can't be bothered with the pot luck nature of it anymore.

Like 60% of the time it just shuts off entirely, which wouldn't even be that much of an issue if it didn't boot in safe mode each time that I switch on after that happens. So not only does it switch itself on and off twice over half the time I try and use Rest Mode, I have to sit and wait for the "rebuilding database" bar to fill.

I just turn it off every time now, it's a shame because that feature would be really useful.

Anyone else have this issue? Any advice?

Negative, been working fine every time here. My XB1 on the otherhand, it never works. If I set the XB1 to do that when I go to turn it on it won't, have to cold power it off and back on so I just set it not to do that anymore.

I have used it every day since the patch went up. Zero issues aside from it logging me off from the Bloodborne server (which is to be expected honestly).

No issues with mine its always worked fine a few times I would get the safe mode thing but its always a power outage issue. Have you checked your power? Do you have power outages often, is it plugged into a faulty power strip perhaps?

My only issue is trying to convince my roommate to use Standby over shutting it down... makes it pretty darn annoying

Nah, it turns off straight away if it happens. The bar blinks orange a few times then it shuts off altogether.

If it just "didn't work all the time" I could deal with it. A minor annoyance but whatever.

It's the switching on and off twice then rebuilding the database thing that worries me, I feel like it's killing my Playstation!

Hopefully they'll patch it so it works properly, I'm fairly certain I don't have a faulty machine. It's fine in every other sense and besides, that's a pretty wierd fault.

Mine likes to eject discs on its own in rest mode so I always just turn it off.

Works really well for me except for Bloodborne's online mode where the game will lose connectivity while the PS4 is in rest mode (with the game suspended) which means you will be taken out of the game when you resume it and start from its menu screen losing the progress you made before suspending the game.

I only wish that there was an option to disable the orange light when the console is in Rest Mode. Haven't encountered any problems with the feature when I have used it, though.

Maybe not the machine, but have you tried backing up your saves and initializing the entire database? Rebuild the system and give it a shot - I've never had a single hardware issue suspending, only games kicking me offline which is to be expected since I suspended the system...

Before House of Wolves just came out - the last time I used my PS4 was 4/11/15 to play some GG Xrd. When I turned on my system yesterday, it was still right where I left it. I was pretty impressed.

Yup, that's exactly the issue. Seems like it's fairly widespread then.

In fact no, it's just a good idea. It should happen after 24 hours or something to be honest.

Rest mode is very problematic for me, it almost never works as intended. It usually has issues recovering a session even when zero applications are open.

I'm on the latest system software and it still doesn't work. It's not even that I'm trying to suspend a game. I just expect the console to shut off the fans and go to sleep when I choose "Rest Mode" from the shutdown menu. Consistently. I don't want to come back half an hour later and find that the system is still humming along.

Yeah the big update (2.50?) and the subsequent one (2.51?) broke suspend for me now I power off or I get that irritating lecture on reboot. As an aside if I have a disk in the machine I always here the ODD spin up briefly before failing to shut down properly, it's become my tell for Oh this is fucked

I tried 'Rebuild Database' which let me suspend/resume successfully when I suspended from the 'User Select' screen but hasn't worked subsequently at all

I use it pretty much daily in Destiny (kicks you out of online mode so meh time savings) and Grand Theft Auto 5 (HUGE time saver, like the 2-3 minutes initial loading time). Zero problems so far.

Maybe rebuild your database and check all your settings to see if anything is not right? I've also used it only on digital games, dunno if it makes a difference.

Hmm, I'm getting the sense that it's just not an entirely reliable feature quite yet. I mean, selection bias and all that, but over 25% of the replies are reporting similar issues.

Maybe I'll just continue to turn it off and wait for the next firmware before trying it again.

You know I have had my system at launch and haven't had even a quarter of the issues I regularly see on this site lol. So yeh. never had any issues with rest mode.

If my system sits around for 4 hours, it will kick to rest mode. I hit my button on the controller, it comes out of rest mode and will immediately be in a game if It happened to be in a game while sitting around or entering rest mode.

I had this same issue. I also had a problem where my PS4 would randomly turn on on it's own. I would be sleeping, then my PS4 would beep and just stay on until I had to unplug it. Sent it in for service this week & hopefully get a new one.

Guess I'm just glad I get to side-step all the troubles people are having... I've only had the rubber on my left thumbstick start to fail, and I quickly got a set of CQCs

I am using it since the release and i had zero issues so far. Used it during Evil Within, Bloodborne, Driveclub and several ps+ titles and works perfectly. I also tried Assassins Creed:Unity but it doesn't support this feature.

Had once a crash coming back from rest mode to GTA V, but it looks like that was down to a bug in the game. From time to time, GTA V also forgets to load the settings at launch and asks me to adjust the brightness again (at which point, I simply close and restart it and then it starts correctly).

But that is expected behavior, is it not? If we lost server connection in an always online game by suspending the console, how is the game supposed to restore our previous state?

I am under the impression that happens by design. It's because refreshing the What's New page gets disabled when the system is suspended. Just press triangle and it will refresh right away.

Nah, it's not power settings because it works just fine about half the time.

And it's not a supply issue, because if it shuts down it does so right away and the television will still be on.

Same here. Even when not in a game, will lose net connection and requires a reboot to get it back.

Funnily enough, it's just gone into rest mode from Netflix just fine! It didn't go back into Netflix when I turned it back on mind, but it didn't try to rebuild the database either.

Having a Ps4 since launch, I can only remember 1 or 2 times (and it was early on) where it turned off instead of going to rest (standby) mode

I have an issue where I can't connect to PSN once I power back on after rest mode. I've noticed it a few times. My friends list won't populate or display who's on. I restart and it's fine.
