Does anyone else have issues with PS4's Rest Mode?

Only issue I ever had was after one of the firmware updates. But that was fixed a few days later. Haven't had a single issue since. Like a few other people, my XB1 has had more issues with rest/sleep mode. But even those are very few.

I only close down games now if I'm switching to another. Loving the feature, so much so that I regularly suspend mid fight like I would on a handheld.

Never had any issue with it. Always leave it on rest mode when I have some patch to download. 1GB+ patches smh*. Rest mode is a game changer indeed.

I always use it. Works perfectly every time. Sounds like a power issue if the database has to be rebuilt. That's what happens if you pull the plug out of the back while it's on.

No issues but I did notice today I thought it wasnt working because it didnt take me directly to the game, I double tap the PS button (how you do for switching apps) and I was back where I left off.

I just turn it off. I can wait the extra 30 seconds a full start takes.

That's not the only reason people use it for; sometimes you have to randomly do something and just suspending the game and picking up where you left off is easy – especially if you can't save or the auto-save spot is further away.

Same thing happens to me, OP. Sometimes I put it into sleep mode and it turns itself off. It's really annoying how it freaks out when you turn it back on, all like, "OHSHIT YOU TURNED ME OFF DURING SLEEP MODE, SOMETHING MIGHT'VE BEEN FUCKED UP, GOTTA DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING!!! ...Oh, everything's okay, carry on."

In fact, I just took a glance at my PS4, and it seems to have done it again.

I don't understand how the Wii U's sleep mode is more reliable than the PS4's. I mean it doesn't have suspend/resume, sure, but at least it doesn't turn off or freak the fuck out if it gets unplugged for whatever reason.

Works flawlessly. In bloodbrone I would always quit to the menu before using it, but still enjoyed the speed of getting back to playing.

But it wasn't until wolfenstein that I realized how amazing the feature was where I could wake from sleep and be stealth killing a dude within seconds of picking up the controller. This was the first "next gen" moment for me.

I'm really impressed with it. I had an issue only once since they implemented it. When I turned my console on from rest mode, it said an error occurred overnight. I had set the month's PS+ games to download using my PC so I'm certain that's what caused it, the suspended game lost its place. I always save or wait for autosave before suspending a game for the night so I didn't lose any progress. Other than that it's been flawless

Missed those quotes on the first page but as mentioned, the patch post 2.50 (2.51?) fixed any issues I had with it. Mainly that it wouldn't resume and I'd have to rebuild the database.

Disappointed to here that people are still having problems. Game related? I've got a tonne of games and the only game it doesn't work with that I've come across is AssCreed Unity, but it tells you that when you attempt to put it into standyby

Works perfectly for me. Except assassin's creed unity, apparently that game isn't compatible for some reason. Which is odd since assassin's creed 4 is...

My issue is my dualshock 4 won't connect after taking from rest mode, i have to get off my arse, power it down completely then my dualshock 4 will link to it and turn it on remotely, annoying!

I had similar issues before the Suspend/Resume update arrived. Before that, my PS4 used to crash almost every time I put it into Rest Mode. Now I can suspend every game and resume without a hitch. Weird :/

Going into rest/suspend mode and resuming works absolutely fine for me, but it never downloads patches or games whilst in rest mode which drives me insane and I have no idea how to fix it.

Last week I was on the PS store on my phone and sent a few games to download on my PS4; I've just turned the console on and nothing has downloaded, they've just been added to the queue. So frustrating.

Well I hit rest mode by accident. That was fun. Couldn't get out of it without a little rage. Just give me old fashion power and eject buttons please. Fudge man!

I keep having a problem where I can boot the PS4 from rest mode using the controller but once it's on the xmb the controller doesn't do anything, like I can't interact with the ps4 at all. I have to hold the power button down on the PS4 itself to put it back into rest mode, then I can use the controller to boot it back up and it works. Anyone else had this and know a fix? Really annoying.

They only issue I have with Rest mode is that when I resume into Destiny it no longer shows me as in the game so other players in my party can't join my session. Pain in the ass when using DestinyLFG to play with people not on my friends list.

I would love to use the suspend and resume feature on my PS4, but it's so intermittent that I can't be bothered with the pot luck nature of it anymore.

Like 60% of the time it just shuts off entirely, which wouldn't even be that much of an issue if it didn't boot in safe mode each time that I switch on after that happens. So not only does it switch itself on and off twice over half the time I try and use Rest Mode, I have to sit and wait for the "rebuilding database" bar to fill.

I just turn it off every time now, it's a shame because that feature would be really useful.

Anyone else have this issue? Any advice?

I have issues where often I put the system in rest mode and when I reboot it tells me there is no disc in the tray and doesn't resume from where I left off. This happens mostly with Destiny and MGSV

Only problem I got with mine is that it starts beeping on its own sometimes.

And sometimes it tried to eject the discs when there's no disc in.

I have to turn it off and unplug it for a few minutes for it to get back to 'normal' again... :-S

That's the eject going nuts.

Usually resetting it works for getting that to stop. Otherwise, power off, then unplug it, then plug it back in and go from there.

yeap. why is it going nuts though? :(

Hope they release some firmware update where the 'stability fixes' address this problem

Every time I put my ps4 on rest mode I can't get it on again unless I force the console to shut down pulling the plug from the socket. That's why I never use this feature :X

btw I've got a d1 european ps4.

Its wonky for me about 35%/40% off the time. Thankfully I've never lost progress to it but it can be frustrating, if not just annoying.

My PS4 doesn't turn off when I use it, but the automatic update is really random, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It really pisses me off sometimes when I get back from work and see an update prompt as soon as I resume my PS4.

I have the problem where roughly half the time, starting rest mode will give the appearance of working, but then the system will beep three times and power down. I don't know what causes it.

I recently had a one-off where from normally functioning rest mode, the system powered on with a white light, with no video output, and wouldn't respond at all. I checked my router's data beforehand, and it wasn't sending/receiving data from the PS4. I assumed it was an update, but it was like that for about 16 hours before I unplugged it because I wanted to use the system. Power button (including holding it down for an extended press) gave no response at all, and the open button gave the two beep response, even though there was a disc in there. After physically unplugging it for restart and a data check, things were normal.

I have two issues.
Games saying they're no longer connected to PSN when resuming (which is expected and more of an annoyance than an issue)
and the "What's New" tab saying "Nothing to show" or something like that until the system is restarted.

You have a defective XB1.
Nah, XB1 has many issues with its resume mode. Both consoles have issues really, but it comes down to which game is left in what state, more than any console-wide issue. I remember having huge issues with Forza Horizon 2 and Ori on Xbox One, and likewise issues with The Witcher 3 and Rocket League on PS4.

So basically, with such a wide range of experiences reported in here rest mode appears to be unreliable at best and flat out broken at worst.

Lame. Never use it, might if they fix it.

I can't remotely cue games to download from a web browser when my PS4 is in rest mode. It use to work flawlessly. Not anymore. It'll only begin the download once the PS4 is on. All of the necessary settings are checked.

I've had problems on both systems. With the PS4, sometimes I can't connect to PSN after resuming from Rest. Sometimes it turns on with no video output (I'm connected through a stereo receiver and this happens with the X1 as well). Every once in a while, I'll get a message that the PS4 wasn't properly shut down.

With the X1, resuming to MCC is a joke. It tells me that my multiplayer rights are restricted via the family filter or some nonsense. Most problems have to do with network connectivity, honestly.

That being said, both are mostly stable and I'll deal with the little problems because I really love the feature.
