Does Half Life 2 drag on too long?

HL2 is nearly perfect. Come on, the end on the game is just an ace and the EP are just too good.
Ofcourse if we put our modern eyes on it, the game design may feel too linear (we mostly have open world games nowadays) but nope, it's and ace guys.

I dont know about vehicule sections, they are not very difficult and not too long (by comparaison of the rest of the game).

And remember Ravenholm FFS, this area is so INTENSE.

Half-Life 2 is one of the best FPS designed, but the first one is better imo.

I think HL3, if it come out a day, must not look like HL1 & 2, it have to be something different. I just don't know how Valve will do that (and i think they don't know that too).

I...liked the vehicle sections in HL2 =/

They didn't feel too long to me, and anytime I replay them these days I'm able to fly through them in no time.

When I first played Half-Life 2 I actually felt it was too short, but in retrospect I realise that's because of what a fuck you the shitty ending was (and it seems Valve agreed given they very obviously retconned it in the Episodes). The main replay affecting problem I have with it is the lock you in a room not-cutscenes; they're like five-ten minutes of not being able to do anything every hour or two and with no option to skip them they drag heavily. Both Half-Life 1 and the episodes avoid that issue (1 by keeping sequences very short outside the start and end, and the episodes by making those moments much rarer relative to their length) and it's the main issue I have replaying HL2.

The first few times I played through it I would've said "No way, this is paced just right".

Nowadays FPS games are more fast-paced and have more content (obviously this differs from game to game). Compared with current FPSs I would say yes, HL2 drags on too long at several points in the game.

There are many better FPS games out there.
