Donald Trump's first television ad "Great Again" will air tomorrow

Trump won't have to enforce a ban on Muslims entering the country, if he's president I doubt any Muslim would willingly enter the country anyway.

Scary stuff. Let's hope there's not a mass shooting between now and the election proper, lest he gains more support out of fear.

So he's literally saying "Let's invade the middle east and take their oil"?
America, stop. Your education has failed somewhere.

My mum (who's British) sighs when Obama is on TV and then I asked her what she thought of Trump.

'He speaks the truth that people want to hear.'

I always thought my mum was sensible and understood that ignorance doesn't breed anything but more ignorance, but if a supposedly rational person can be taken in by this, doesn't it mean that people who are not so rational and have an active (if covert) dislike of foreigners would just vote Trump?

My mate from Philidelphia says he's got 'no chance'.

I'm not so sure. If the environment is conducive to it, anything is possible (including a GAF OT!)

Well you obviously know your mum best but are you sure you interpreted her correctly here? Want to hear is the key in that sentence. Doesn't say if she herself buys into it or not. Populist is the term you can apply to people like Trump.

Sadly it seems there are more people then I would have thought who wants to hear stuff like this... depressing as it is

"...and take their oil."

Goddamn, I mean, I knew it was coming, it's been his rhetoric for awhile, but it's vile to actually see an actual television ad in the United States calling for discrimination based on religious affiliation.
I had a friend from Syria in high school and I hope he never went back, and to even fathom the thought of him being denied refuge, or his family, no.

Fuck you to hell Trump, and may you burn there forever, you slimy piece of shit.

Lmao, I don't know why I expected more. It's hilarious seeing the clowns in the dark recesses of the internet who talk about how Trump actually has substantive policies but people just don't listen.

Lol. No he doesn't.

What's scarier? The fact that this ad is real, or the fact that millions of americans might vote for Trump thinking this ad make sense?

This is honestly like a satire of a political add on a sketch comedy show. I want to believe this is a giant joke, but I know it isn't and some people will eat this up :(

It doesn't matter why he thinks they should pay for it, I want to know how he proposes to get Mexico to actually agree to pay for it. Just cause you feel they should pay for it doesn't mean they will.

From his "plan":

Mexico must pay for the wall and, until they do, the United States will, among other things: impound all remittance payments derived from illegal wages; increase fees on all temporary visas issued to Mexican CEOs and diplomats (and if necessary cancel them); increase fees on all border crossing cards – of which we issue about 1 million to Mexican nationals each year (a major source of visa overstays); increase fees on all NAFTA worker visas from Mexico (another major source of overstays); and increase fees at ports of entry to the United States from Mexico [Tariffs and foreign aid cuts are also options]

if anything that oil belongs to the iraqi and syrian people not to the US and certainly not to trump personally nor his enterprise.

The Iraqi people? You mean an Iraqi company right? Also BP drills for oil in the Gulf of Mexico. Shouldn't that oil belong to the American people instead of a UK corporation?

Trump supporters are actually scarier than Trump himself, yeah, I said it.

You're not wrong.

Trump will eventually slough off the polls and return to being an obnoxious blowhard on reality TV.

His supporters will keep voting to keep his 'vision' alive for the rest of their lives.

Russia has disabled Isis to a big extent by bombing the oil facilities and trucks. Trump said bomb the oil before Russia even announced their intervention in Syria. Trump really might not even need to go fight for oil in Syria if Russia is able to assist Assad gain the fields back.

This is insane.

What's more worrisome though is that some people actually agree with the drivel being spouted about in the ad. It's this strange subgroup of people who feel like America is some terrible wasteland now because society is shifting away from being intolerant. It's the same people who complain about America being too "PC". As if it's somehow "weak" to try and live together as a community instead of actively antagonizing or being hostile to marginalized groups.

I just don't get it. How can this man have any sort of following? I know comparing someone to Hitler is a stupid thing to say, but that's all I think watching this ad and from Trump himself. Fascist piece of garbage.

amazing that he's doubled down on his ban Muslims stance.

Trump is the final form of our current right-wing fearmongering politicians

Why is it taking him so long to figure it out?

He calls it Radical Islamic Terrorism....yet he can't figure it out yet. Sounds like you figured it out Trump.

I fear for what America would become if a third of the hate he spews comes to fruition. He should love Reagan....but he's not "tearing down this wall". Building a new Berlin in America.

This ad looks and feels like it's from someone with zero experience with political advertising. So I guess no one should be surprised. Terrible, terrible VA work, my god. Put some money into sound engineering, too. At least it has the proper clip at the end.

Yeah this is awful. So awful. Please let other people write your ads, Donald. I don't want you to be a campaign that kills itself via its own lousy ads.

We sure this isn't a snl bit.
I'm not sure they could parody it any better than the real thing.

From his "plan":

Why doesn't he do the same thing with Canada? Or are we not dark enough to frighten him and his base?
We're harboring Syrians, after all. I'd like to see him ask Trudeau to build a wall with Canadian taxpayers money.

I find it hilarious that they use "until we can figure out what's going on" in the ad. I assumed that it was poor phrasing when he said it in the original speech but it seems it was deliberate.

Obvious stupid content aside, that was surprisingly crappy quality.
Most of the Republican candidate videos are like that. Not sure if it's a deliberate style or if it's rushed/cheap, to be honest.

The "liberal arts" people who can make good, polished stuff are probably not working on Republican campaigns.

"Bobby NEWport. Booooby Newport."
.

It's probably phrased as vague as possible so that it can be used to permanently keep Muslims out. "We still haven't figured out what is going on. Better keep the immigration ban going."

Holy shit at the "and take their oil" part. It's like some bizarre parody come to life.

I'm now 40% (up from 20%) convinced the Clintons put him up to this. This ad falls in line with the "what's the worst thing you could reasonably do next? Ok, let's do it!" strategy.

Bingo - your mother isn't saying she agrees with it; but she's been around long enough to know what resonates with people. Especially for those who remember the Red Scare / Mexicans are taking all of our jobs / <insert scare here> times the US routinely goes through.

So I have to imagine this has all been a ploy by Donald Trump to guarantee Hillary Clinton becomes the next President of the United States.

Fucking "Kill ISIS and take their oil"? There's no way.
