I know, I know. I had two close family friends let loose over the holiday that they are Trump supporters. We had about a 30 minute session that bordered on an argument a lot of the time, but after we still acknowledged that it was ok to disagree. I may not have changed their minds, but i know i gave them something to think about. I think as long as we can make them think, we may crack that armor over time.

The problem is that the media isnt doing this. Instead of focusing on how there is no substance here, no real solutions, and just vague shitty promises, they want to just treat him like a serious contender. Thats why its up to the rest of us to do their fucking job for them, apparently.

Actually I think that's the issue. If anyone else was saying this stuff, they would rip into him, but they're still mostly treating Trump like entertainment and not as a serious candidate.

Haha, that commercial is hilariously bad. It seems like it is a parody of a parody of a parody (a.k.a. Onion News Inception). Trump is definitely a plant from the other side. The fact that many conservatives buy it just goes to show how dumb and out of touch they are. They are being exposed big time.

As a side note, has anybody asked Trump about the "unbelievable" "mountain of evidence" he claimed his people "found" a few years back proving Obama wasn't a US citizen?

He refuses to answer any questions about it last I heard; says it would overshadow the rest of his campaign if he talked.

I hope this is just viral marketing for GTA V story DLC.

Further proof of his mastery over the media. He knows how to get them to talk about what he wants. If he seriously becomes president, I'm out of here for sure. Gonna start saving this year.

'IRL' I see the same (or more) amount of excitement around Trump as I did Obama, just from different groups of people.

There are a lot of parallels to be made between the way people are attracted to him. He's bringing out people who wouldn't normally be political or even really care to vote, a lot like Obama did.

I wish I had neogaf's confidence that he will not make it to the general election. I think people might be overlooking the lower-middle class midwest. They don't read. They don't even really spell. They all love Trump though.

Look at the Matt Bevin thing in Kentucky. The people who voted him into office were the very people who his policies will harm the most.

Has Trump explained how he plans on making Mexico pay for the wall?
Each person he exports will have to place a brick on the wall.
Can they personalize the brick before they place it? You know, as a memento of their time in the States that they can show to their grandkids when they visit the wall in the decades to come?

Jon Stewart abandoned us in our time of need.

Obama emboldened voters in urban areas to further cement the idea that any State dominated by urban populations will go Blue.

Is Trump doing the same for the GOP?

Not even close... he may or may not make some red states redder, but if anything due to a large swath of the GOP being embaressed by the man he'll turn off as many or more already likely GOP voters than he will get non-voters to vote.

IMO

The people he's bringing in are people who only go to work and the bar. They're not worried about "turning a state". They probably don't even know what color signifies their love for trump. I think they'd accept red, white or blue. really.

Trump as a nominee would definitely increase turnout in the white male vote in many states, but since it appears to be happening at the expense of every other group that's going to spell trouble in the electoral college.

Going +10 in Kentucky is worthless, especially if it means you might go -1 in Ohio or Virginia.

I mean there's a reason his own party is so concerned about the impact he'll have on even Congressional races to the extent they're making noises about screwing him at the Convention.

Haha that ad was insane. I shouldn't even be laughing because it's serious... But it felt like someone on gaf made that in 5 mins for lulz.

Jesus.

"You know, a lot of my opponents say my plans have no substance, and that's fair. That's understandable. But the thing they're forgetting is I'm a world class businessman, a world class deal maker. Every problem in this world is a people problem. It's management. It doesn't take a genius to talk someone into looking out for their own best interests, but it doesn't hurt that I am a genius. Mexico is going to pay for that wall because the very first day that I am elected president of these United States, I will fly down to Mexico on Air Force One and make Mexico a deal it can't refuse. I promise you that after one luncheon, Mexico will beg to help us secure our borders. Mexico is going to see exactly how my bestselling book, The Art of the Deal, applies to immigration as much as it applies to business."

Trump started with around 50% more than Warren Buffett had at the time. Buffett now has around 16x more money than Trump. Trump was even massively outperformed by unmanaged mutual funds. Trump is a joke as a businessman. It would almost be impossible for him to be more incompetent.
But it's important to remember that while he is a joke, he isn't joking.

I guess I took your comment as being about the general election (considering you compared him to Obama.)

A lot of NeoGAF is HOPEFUL he gets the nom because of how much Trump's popularity is ripping apart the GOP right now.

I guess what I'd ask you is; what exactly are you worried about?

It's hard to put stock in the GOP's forecasting methodology after this early cycle. I think the high level donors have the biggest problem with him. The party itself, as represented by the people, seem pretty pleased. I haven't heard any views from him that conservative talk radio hasn't been wall-banging for years.

A lot of people are hearing him say things on TV news channels they've never heard people say before on TV news channels. At least not from a position of respect and power (ie: not the perp on COPS).

It's emboldening a nationalism in people that frightens me. I don't know if the media and liberal corners of the internet are right, or if it's just really wishful thinking.

I think we could use a little push in the direction he's going. LITTLE. But when a country goes too far it can get Fatherland-y really fast.

He's stil sitting at around 60% "unfavorable" across polls attempting to target likely GOP voters.

The majority of likely GOP voters think he's a joke, and pretty much everyone else (the 75% of the country that don't identify as likely GOP voters) does as well.

The nationalism and racism IS scary I totally agree; but Trump casting a spotlight on these people may HELP the situation in the end.

We have to do soemthing about this aspect of our society; maybe Trump does make it worse.. embolden people.. but those beliefs and thoughts were already there.

.

Wow. This is almost the same sentiment that Trump has, just aimed toward a different group of people.

What would you do to these people when the spotlight is cast on their beliefs?

The people supporting Trump, as you say, aren't very savvy politically and probably understand little about what's going on.

The party establishment, for all their faults, probably better understands the impact of Trump in the electoral college and on downticket races, which is kind of what I'm getting at.

Not answering this bullshit.

I thought the reason we didn't like Trump is because he wanted to make certain beliefs and thoughts illegal. Now you're saying an upside to Trump being popular is it exposes people's beliefs and thoughts to make them available for some type of punishment? Reeducation?

I don't mean to equate you to Trump as a person. I just think you should reevaluate your thoughts here and maybe slow down on weeding out people you disagree with. Any thought and belief is fine until it becomes an action.

I'm not your enemy here. I'm warning that more people think the way that you (and I) wish they wouldn't. I don't think anything should be done to them for thinking that way, and I'd certainly be embarrassed to have my countrymen's infantile views exposed on a world stage. It's logistically impossible to make corrective actions like you're implying.

We just have to wait for old ideals to die off naturally.

i know its probably been asked but what are the chances of him actually getting into office??

are people just admiring the freakshow unfolding or are people actually going to vote for him

I didn't say anything remotely like this and I am not bothering to read the rest of your post. You are arguing against nothing, I said nothing about donig anything to anybody. Pretending racism doesn't exist in our country doesn't help; shining a spotlight on it may help embolden people to do something about it.. you know.. educate people.. vote for good people, that sort of thing. Jumping to this weird conclusion bullshit and comparing me to Trump? Fuck off.

This ad is gonna be racist as fuck and filled with small minded paranoia guaranteed. May that fucking bigot Trump never get elected.
Make America great again? My question is "For which Americans?"

Is this ad for real? It looks like a parody or several videos mashed up by some random youtuber for conspiracies videos. Awesome, this will be a hell of a rollercoster!

Said nothing remotely what you are construing.

Read my edit:

Fuck off.

This is like the most offensive political ad I've ever seen in my entire life. It's offensive to Muslims, it's offensive to Mexicans, it's offensive to Americans - because it implies that they are so dumb, that they think any of this stuff is even remotely possible.

Border Patrol: "Can I see your passport?"
Canadian (me): "Sure" *hands passport over*
Border Patrol: "Ah... just what I thought... this name is pretty Muslim
Me: "Uhm, okay, and?"
Border Patrol: "So, you're like Muslim... right?"
Me: "No"
Border Patrol: "... I don't know what I am supposed to do here"

Trump's a con man, but I thought he was good enough at it to know when it's go time. I'm kind of surprised that he's going in with the same stupidity that only works on the initial batch of fools that have gotten him this far. Especially eye opening is the re-use of one of the dumbest lines of thinking we've heard out of the primary season: "until we know what's going on".

Honestly it seems like blatantly calling for war crimes as a Presidential candidate shouldn't be protected speach (the whole "take their oil" thing.)

Yup, not only is it violating the constitution, its impossible to enforce without wild racist assumptions.
