Sorry, i know you just said felt but he's easily one of the tankiest heroes in the game: he has really good strenght growth coupled with Kraken Shell which lets you at least drop an ultimate every fight even if you're getting focused.

Part of that was probably that I wasn't so good at last hitting then so farming involved a lot of me hacking away in the middle of a creep mob and taking damage.

I just had someone tell me I should get Mask of Madness on Phantom Assassin next time. I told him I'm just not seeing that being a good idea, as she's not very tanky, and doesn't have something to keep her safe (like Void's Chronosphere). Am I right in saying MoM is a bad idea on her?

I would think basher would be a better choice. I mean for when you blink strike, you still have to AC a bit to catch up with them. And blink strike gives you all the attack speed you need till you get later stuff.

But I don't play PA so I guess you're better off waiting for someone more experienced to post.

MOM + Basher, EZ.

When I was getting started out everyone recommended Tidehunter but I just couldn't get into him, he felt fragile and died easily. it turned me off of melee heroes almost entirely for a while, but I gave Axe a try last week and felt much better.
Did you even bother getting Vanguard or other things that make him tankier?

Aw ye got dat pizza money.

Huh, when was this ;o. I really need to get back into the tournament scene, public games can only be entertaining for so long.

Also, not sure what is more satisfying: Wrecking some kid trashtalking since before the hero picks, or getting him on your team next game, having him squelch you and proceed to curse you out, then carry him to victory.

No real need for MoM. HotD turns into Satanic, which helps her viability immensely, and gives her the ability to stack easily. MoM was core on her before they changed blinkstrike to give AS. The only way I would consider getting it is if your farm is terrible and you decide to go Vanguard/MoM over BFury/HotD

Fuck. That was the worst game ever and I just blew it. SO FUCKING CLOSE. it's 30 minutes long if people want to see the stupidity.

Game ID 23425331

It ended up being for the last 15 or so minutes, 3 v me as dark seer. I ended up with so much gold and kills that I nearly had the damn ancient. If only boots of travel wasn't on CD and I had a TP I would have won D:

The games today have all been shit. Everyone keeps dropping out.

Tried Pudge for the first time and sucked. I couldn't get his ult to do shit. Do I have to hold the button down?

You should never get a vanguard on Tide. Items to get are:

Mana boots -> blink dagger -> situational items (pipe/mek/dust/smoke of deceit etc...)

Tide is an initiator and is great with his slow for early kills and his ult for mid/late game team fights.

I have to say after loading it up and having a look around, Valve have done a really impressive job. I haven't actually played a game yet, but the replay system where you can watch any game live, and the downloading of past tourney's where you can choose a commentary track and camera input is awesome! They've beaten Blizz at their own game in this regard.

The heropedia with the built-in videos and also the in-game store and steam workshop integration are also impressive. I'm not even sure I'll like the game yet, but so far I'm really liking what I'm seeing.

So with Valve apparently trying to shy away from the term "beta" will our stats be reset when the game is fully released? or do we basically have early-access at this point?

So I just started playing this for the first time. Aside from like 2 or 3 matches of LoL, this is my first MOBA. So I've got a total newbie question:

What's the purpose of killing the creatures in the forest area outside of the lanes?

EDIT: Oops, sorry for the DP.

What's the purpose of killing the creatures in the forest area outside of the lanes?
Gold, exp, the usual. There's also more advanced tactics concerning the jungle but that's all you need to know for now.

Safe place to get some levels and gold, assuming you've a hero with the right skills and items to do it with adequate speed. Frees up lane farm for someone else.

Why would I want to kill them when I can farm creeps then?
In most cases, you are better off farming the creeps in lane. But there are times when the Jungle creeps are the better option. For one, they are good to farm when you can't safely kill your lane creeps for what ever reason, such as them being too close to the enemy's side of the map, or someone else is trying to farm them. Also, the Jungle is essentially a 4th "lane", and some heroes can kill the monsters there fairly easily from level 1. If you can safely man two lanes each with 1 person, along with having 1 person in the jungle, your team should gain more XP then the enemy team, and potently more gold too, allowing for a good early to mid game advantage. Also, later in the game, is can be more efficient to farm the jungle creeps then the lane creeps.

They can also be used for a few other purposes. First off, several characters have built in skills that can allow them to control the creeps in the jungle (Chen and Enchantress), and there is also an item that allows you to take control of them too (Helm of the Dominator). One of the Character's, Doom Bringer, has the ability to consume the jungle creeps, and gain any ability they have. Some of the abilities the Jungle Creeps have are Stuns, heals, projectiles, and AoE damage, along with several auras that can give Mana Regen, Health Regen, Speed, Armor, or Bonus Damage.

Anther common use of them is to draw them to your own creeps, the purpose of which is to kill your creeps. The benefits of such a thing are is move the front line of the lane closer to your side, along with denying XP and gold to the enemy. Also, it can also be used to try and stack two creep waves on top of each other, which can be useful for a push, though it is rarely helpful in the early game to stack the creep wave.

Why would I want to kill them when I can farm creeps then?

If you're lane is unwinnable, if you have some sort of built in lifesteal or regen (or through items), if you're lane is too pushed, if the camps are stacked, if you have wards it's often safer, etc... In the midgame most of your farm comes from pushing out a lane a bit (or taking a tower if you are 90% sure you are safe or have an escape) then backing and making a jungle run, rinse and repeat (during downtimes between team fights and stuff). It's also just a backup source of gold and exp (if your lanes are all getting farmed you can hop in the jungle).

Windrunner is the most satisfying hero to play. I'm hooked on her. Requires a lot if attention to play well but is so much fun, kiting people and doing continue pokes.

Can I put two strange modifiers on one strange item? Will it then track both, or just override the first? I know in tf2 you can have 3.

The wiki kind of sucks and doesn't answer stuff like this.

Unique modifiers don't stack. The tooltip description will tell you that on the modifier.

Uh no it doesn't.

I recall seeing/reading that stats will not be reset (well, what's already being tracked anyway) but don't remember where I saw it. I think it was on the dev.dota2 forums iirc..

hello guys, finally got selected for Beta!! Think with my turtle like internet speed will be able to play tomorrow.

What's the hero you suggest to play with initially? I used to play Dota till like 2010.

Try the ones you used to play? In the OP are some suggestions to start with.

15 ?? Aren't you optimistic! More than likely they'll air outside your fountain as 5 and wait while one lane slowly takes the tier 4 towers and throne. That's a good 30 minutes of waiting there.

"First Blood!"

Whole team mashes forfeit button.

This will be a problem with any forgot button they add. I propose a -20 kill mercy rule giving the losing team the option to quit. I also propose a k/d tracker to prevent people from feeding just to get the -20 needed lol

"First Blood!"

Whole team mashes forfeit button.

That would probably be a problem, but this is a beta, right? I'd be interested in seeing them try giving us the option or something.
I like the -20 Kill Advantage idea, I'd also consider not allowing the option until 30 minutes into the game or some similar metric.

""First Blood!"

Whole team mashes forfeit button."

Simple solution is to not allow a forfeit before the 20 minute mark, like other games already do. Problem eliminated. Next?

I had a 40 minute stomping just now -_-

EDIT: 20 minute mark, plus require all 5 (instead of majority) to surrender. Some matches just become a miserable 30 minute test of patience and sanity.

"plus require all 5 (instead of majority) to surrender."

No. Majority or 4/5 is enough. Or else you get 1/2 guys refusing to surrender either out of spite or troll.

"Do you still play Demigod?

Does anyone?"

People have to be able to connect to each other in order to play.
