I have question I play Lich all the time cause its easy and I read everything there is to read about him.

Is Lich viable in competitive play or is he easily countered?

He is viable although many other supports are favored over him right now. He's more of a passive/defensive laner and most teams are opting for more aggressive playstyles.

Either way, don't worry about whether a hero is or isn't "competitively viable," because a lot of it is flat out bullshit. The best teams will always be the ones who can innovate and formulate new strategies.

unless that hero is broodmother or morphling. two most useless do nothing heroes in the game atm. Morph is outclassed by every other carry in the game and brood is just good to troll with so you can feed the enemy thousands of gold with spiders. every other hero contributes something, however small, to a team.

Thanks! Any suggestions for a STEP UP from Lich?

Tidehunter, Lion, Ogre Magi, Dazzle, Vengeful Spirit, and maybe Jakiro.

"Thanks! Any suggestions for a STEP UP from Lich?"

Probably a mid or carry role.

Nightstalker or Phantom Lancer, respectively.

I had an Aghanims, Euls, Sheep Stick, and Force Staff on him earlier. Seemed pretty effective to me. At least it did until nobody wanted to come near me anymore.

Lich used to be picked a lot back in the day but not in the current game. Still a very good support hero who isn't starved for mana. He was one of my first heroes and I still play him, in fact just won a game with him not too long ago.

Crystal Maiden is a good step up from Lich. She is also not very starved for mana and is easy to play. Venge as well but you need to be more aggressive with her.

Wow. That's insane. What's his strategy for getting that much money so fast? What is his skill build order?

Positively not fake. He definitely does need help in lane to get going, but afterwards he skyrockets out of control quickly (shoutout to haly and 109 besto supports).

Max out greevil's greed and your stun first, get ult when possible. Max acid last.

My personal item build that I pretty much go every game is Midas -> Phase boots -> Shadow Blade -> Mjolnir -> Helm of the Dom -> (solo roshan) -> Basher -> Abyssal -> Satanic -> Sell midas for whatever last item you need as you no longer need the attack speed from midas. Sometimes the last item is BKB if they have an absurd amount of disables, but I find the lifesteal from Satanic is more than enough to keep me alive.

You can always watch the game above to see me farm, or watch this game where we were losing terribly, but my alchdota helped us comeback big time.

If you go to the community tab in the dota client and check players of the week, most weeks the featured player will be someone playing Alchemist with 1,200 + gpm. Kind of ruins the featured player of the week IMO.

Shadow Blade is so god damn cheesy on Alchemist. Long ass stun out of nowhere into right click dead.

ROFL @ 895 GPM Jesus christ!

The best was the time an Alchemist purposely stunned him self while invisible to stun 3 of us while we were pushing in their tier 3. Could of really wrecked if his team reacted to it.

What you do is start the stun, invis, and hope you find someone within 6 seconds. If you stun your self, you are normally going to be fine too, since they still can't see you.

or he could've, you know, threw it at you cuz its aoe anyways.

fixed link. Oops

Sensae, you are a Wizard.

Also, if a team's team fight is so bad that they can't manage to win 4v5's...yea, you deserve to get the long dick from the free farming Alchie. You weren't at a single team fight until it was fountain diving time and it didn't matter because they couldn't do shit with the other 4.

+respect to the team comp and play that can offer that sort of opportunity. Hard to do without being premade.

Damm I didnt even know who alchemist was until just then :<

I need to learn how to farm. I wanna try and play a carry lina one of these days. Especially when I get the occasional pub game where no one wants mid and I'm forced to go there, only to find out its a damm huskar or something terrible like that ;__;

So any good simple guides or tips on farming? Besides the last hitting which I am pretty bad at but slowly getting better I think.

First off, some heroes aren't designed around serious farming. Lina can farm okay, but it's not her thing or her role. As for tips, practice and watch some replays from some of the good players here or replays from tourney games and take notes on what people are doing. Note how many last-hits their carries have at 10 minutes....20 minutes...30 minutes.

You'll want to watch one of those YouTube videos out there about how many tower hits a range/melee creep can tank so that you don't mess up those last-hits...and practice will help find the rhythm with a given heroes' last-hit animation. You'll also want to learn the fine art of stacking ancients a d neutrals in the jungle where you will learn timings and clock management (again, YouTube holds a number of such tutorials). Other than that, there are certain items that accelerate farm but are dependent on the kind of hero you select (range or melee). Generally speaking, items that increase your damage, attack speed, and/or grant some sort of cleave (like battlefury, some heroes like Sven, Medusa [sorta] and Luna have this built in) are what will help you farm heavily.

I'd suggest learning how to farm with Luna. I think she's the most forgiving of the hardcore farmers in the game. Good attack animation, built in cleave, range, nuke to keep you safe, relevant all game long (not as item dependent for early-mid game contributions as other hard carries). She also has a Dom Helm as part of her core, so you can master stacking ancients on time with a dominated creep.

(Sorry for the verbose reply)

That's a great reply! Cheers!

I actually played with Luna a lot when I first started playing, but moved to supporting after playing with mates and learning that there is more to a doto than just hitting things.

Yeah Lina is probably the worst hero I could pick ever to learn to farm on. I definitely will check out stacking vids though. I can never seem to do that very well :<

lina's a bit harder since her attack animation is one of the worst in the game. (alongside clinkz and crystal maiden) One of the things she has going for her though is her ability to nuke down creepwaves (kinda like sf) and her decent late game scaling thanks to her passive 3rd spell. Since she naturally gets attack speed, you can focus on damage items on that hero (deso, crit, sheepstick) or tank items (skadi, bkb, sny) if you plan on late-gaming with her.

One of the biggest factors in last hitting aside from the actual last hitting part is map awareness though. Find spots to farm safely, and flash farm it and get out asap. Lina doesn't have an escape mechanism, as her only defense is her offense, so its best to either get something that'll help you get out (blink, force, eul's) or bet on them being bad enough to leave you alone.

Complete noob question but I was playing Vengeful Spirit last night and I'm a little confused about what her nether swap ability is supposed to be used for.

Fleeing enemies, enemies who are out of position before teamfight, saving allies who are being chased with low HP, (seldom) sacrificing yourself by swapping out their carry into your team.

And don't forget the pub favorite, swapping with your carry to save your self.

This can be a good idea though if you are fairly certain the enemy can't actually do any major harm

Well after 700 games decided to play wisp for the first time yesterday.
Freaking loved it! Just supported CK all game and we ended up dominating the game.

Felt like a totally different ball game from all the other supports. Really digged it and looking forward to try him/her/it out some more soon!

D3XTR is that u?

I can't even break 800 gpm with Alch. I need to not die. I died 3 times in my last game. I also had to compete with a lane partner for farm which went against me, but still. My highest is 799.

just played first dota2 game in ages, went 9-6 with Doom.
its gonna be a while before i can recognize who the hell everyone is and what they do (i've mostly played HoN).

lost a game where we had Seer, naga, enigma, nature prophet and DK. really we were winning early game with ganks and so on, we lost 2 crucial teamfights cause holy shit adk engima couldnt realise that he had to ult AFTER naga's song ended. i mean its dead easy, SONG, WALL, END SONG, VACUUM, BLACK HOLE = win but no we just couldnt fuck i was so fucking pissed.

Slark is the most fun hero.

Need slark items.

He's not broken down yet for whatever reason, and it's more trouble than it's worth worth to do that yourself at this point, with the vast amount of heroes that are fully set up for items.

Definitely a hero I'd be looking at to try and make stuff though. He's pretty cool.

Random a few hundred games or just pick every hero once and you'll start to know everything.

I've been gone from the scene for a couple of months.. Missed out all the holiday specials since the halloween one. Every one got a Lil demon courier now.
Is it me or the game is just harder. I've just been playing bots to get back into it, and it had been brutal. Zeuz 2 shots me. Razor is a prick, and fkn snipe, man o man. Just when you think your safe all you hear is: oh hoho. Got that. Wanker. W/e he says.

New heroes are pretty cool. That buzzsaw guy remind me of the boss in the van cliff cave in WOW. Fave is still nightstalker.

It's still taking ages to get in a pub with non pubs. :/

I must be glutton for punishment because I wNt more.
