Fretting about what each match is going to do to your DBR will encourage you to play better.

You really think that's how it works?

The flip side of your bubble gum and rainbow scenario is even more anxious and ragefilled players berating their team for ruining their diamond status run. Sounds horrible.

I can't imagine Troll Warlord ever not getting banned if he ever makes it in Captain's Mode in his current incarnation.

That ultimate. It's so godlike.

Agree. Unfortunately it encourages people to play super duper carefully or not with their team at all.

This is not necessarily better.

I'm not seeing that. People play the best they can and that's about it. I've not seen passivity increasing in any meaningful way.

"Can we make this a quick win guys, I'm currently farming for my platinum status and I want to get two more games in before bed."

is that even something that can be farmed, per se?

Hmm don't see how this is true at all. When people fret about mmr, they do anything to WIN. When people fret about things like KDR, gpm, etc... they don't buy wards, they play super cautious, and they actively KS.

In my HoN experience, mmr was generally positive as a motivation to win, it makes you care about the W and nothing else; while visible KDR, GPM, and wards placed was detrimental. MMR also discourages abandoning.

"Can we make this a quick win guys, I'm currently farming for my platinum status and I want to get two more games in before bed."

I'm confused, you don't like quick, efficient wins? You basically just said mmr encourages people to win games. And like dreams-visions said, single-handedly "farming" quick wins in DOTA lol? Not sure if that's possible. If you get to the stage where you can "farm" wins, then the mmr motivation just improved you as a player, no?

I definitely agree that some people will use it as motivation to improve.

But, as I've argued before, the problem with an elo type rating in a game like Dota is that so much of the match's outcome is entirely out of your hands. That's why so many players fail to improve because they're able to shift most of the blame onto their teammates. With a rating system that everyone is involved in, I feel we'd start seeing the oft echoed system from HoN.

Even in this thread, I would hate for the discussions to devolve into "Silver player looking for help from Diamonds!" Obviously this hasn't happened, but I feel it's a pretty easy step before some discourse is stifled because "you're just a lowly gold player" and things become too focused on this rating.

So... yeah. Too long; didn't read - This is interesting and fun but I'm glad that it's a system you need to opt in to.

No different from those same people berating and screaming at their team for feeding, being russians, brazillians, noobs, bads, ruining their 55% winrate etc... The trash talkers will always trash, regardless of mmr.

So the max DBR so far is 2920 if you want to measure your epeen.

Add that winterymint guy to the diamond list for sure. He probably has the highest DBR on gaf too.

Nah that guy sucks, I'm low tier and I made him rage-quit:-

The winterycunt is the CK, I'm the awful Axe who battlehungers instead of culling and Veno is the no balls DrRunaway can't make my mind up player.

well I was platinum

DBR system put into doubt by this breaking news.

Exactly but this exacerbates that because now that "evil Brazilian" is not only going to threaten your specific game but he could harm your precious DBR as well.

Let's take away the fact that you can see your own private win/loss record in game. Not only will that "evil Brazillian" harm a specific game, BUT HE'S GOING TO GIVE THE TRASH TALKER A PERMANENT LOSS on his precious record, and that's going to encourage him to flame harder. Let's also remove hero peformance bars, it's going to encourage trash talk when the flamer knows he's going to lose half a bar on his hero because of an "evil brazillian."

edit: Moral of the story: Blame/report the trash talker and stop trying to blame gameplay systems for his behavior. Flamers will flame regardless, and trying to destroy every interesting personal performance system in a game because it might theoretically provide more ammo for trash talkers is just nonsense.

I've solo queued 98% of the time. Jumped in with gaffers a few times in the chat channel but I never play more than 2 or 3 games at a time. I really don't see how a rating of 1672 is 93%...

Thanks Anbork for elucidating what I meant and defending me while I was busy working.

Hey guys sorry to quote myself but this may have gotten lost in all the ratings going live hullabaloo...

I'm just really curious what the Earthshaker was doing when he was using fissure to divert the creeps... was I supposed to stay in lane with no creeps and no backup, or was I supposed to go in the jungle with him?

Alright, I'm terrlible, lol. Did a public bot match. I was Pugna. When it started I was bottom with Earthshaker and he was diverting our creeps to the jungle. What was I supposed to be doing in that situation?

The other team had two guys laning bottom so they were up my ass pretty bad and I just had to sit back and be real real conservative. The guy wasn't a dick but made some comments about me not really having a clue, which were correct.

We were getting mauled and somehow we made a push in the last minute and won, it was epic. I was a pathetic 4/14/18

Pulling into the jungle denies the enemies experience and gold because the jungle creeps do the killing. The enemy heroes can walk up and mess it up - and usually people will ward block those jungle spawns so that you can't do pulls. When you're caught out with no creep wave because your support is pulling you usually fall back to the next wave of creeps or just kite around the tower.

A fuckton of helpful tips.

Thanks so much Ksan! I'm going to watch the replay with what you said in mind and try to see what you're saying.

I really appreciate your taking the time to write that all up, that must have been at least an hours worth of work between watching and then writing. Very cool of you!

I'm a new player as well and this is something my more experienced friend has been teaching me to do in the safe lanes when I play support.

In the safe lanes--top for Dire, bottom for Radiant--at the 15 and 45 second mark of any minute you can attack the nearby neutral creep camp near the tier 1 tower in that lane. When you've drawn the aggro from the neutral creep camp, the support walks down to the lane and intercept your creep wave. Your creep wave will go up to fight the neutrals in the camp, the support stays by the fight to get the experience and last hits and let most of your creep die. The reason for doing this is to control your lane, deny the enemy heroes experience and gold and draw the fight closer to your tower and jungle so it's easier to gank them.

The carry can kite the tier one tower, get experience and last hits from the enemy creep while the other heroes have to try to dive at the hero under the tower and/or worry about getting ambushed from your jungle.

Not sure if being sarcastic or not, but I don't like getting his ult until at least level 10 so I can have two points at 11 because I feel that the level one ult isn't worth it. Duration is too short with only one point to be really useful.

I can see that, but even at low cd, I think one point in ult offers more marginal utility than 2nd point in adaptive, especially given that this is traditionally well before a morph can shotgun someone or do substantial dmg with it.

13mb update. Anything specific?
Code:
- Updated the icons for the new Warlock and Lone Druid sets.
- Fixed units not pathing around invisible enemies.
- Fixed stolen Berserker's Rage not restoring the original attack type on death.
- Fixed for LP mode not limiting 40 heroes.
- Fixed Battle Trance affecting units like Spirit Bear
