Finally got my whole friends group in now, teaching them has been hard past few days. Think we're gonna try a pub game tomorrow with them finally. Game is so much better if you play it with a whole team on skype. (well we have 4)

The worst thing in DOTA is when your internet starts acting up and your game keeps stopping while in the middle of a fight. Only during the fights.
 
I always knew that there was a market for ridiculous unusuals and stuff, but it turns out even for regular sets you can often find someone trading them too... Usually exchanging for other items, or for a cheaper price than the store in keys. If I'm ever in dire need of an item set in the future, I'll probably stay away from the valve store altogether. (unless it's new - seems tough to get a trade for much less than "retail" on newer things)

Also, a couple questions for you chest opening people out there: how do strange items work? Do you get a "base" strange from a chest, and then apply the modifier to it? I see people talking about trading the modifications on their own, so can you separate them from the weapon/armor piece? How rare is a strange weapon? I'm not one for opening many chests, but I'm curious to see how it works.

grey boxes are dota stuff....youll be able to tell though.

Stranges count kills when that item is equipped and grow in "rank" when you hit certain kill numbers...though rank is purely for show.
modifiers add a new count for said modifier so if you add a towers destroyed modifier to your strange whatever it will count kills AND towers destroyed.
not really worth popping chests for a strange item imo....if theres a sexy item that you have to have thats available in strange youll most likely be able to get it pretty cheap at a trade site!

Stranges come with their own modifiers then there are modifiers that come out of chests instead of say, an item. You have to have a strange item to be able to use the modifiers so that is something to take into consideration as well.
 
I unboxed a strange octopus hat for tide that counts kills, and I also got a strange modifier that counts gushes, so I put it on that hat as well. I still have a name and description tag that I might use on that hat now!

Though I will have to play tide more..
 
Am I supposed to max Decay or Soul Rip first with Undying? Also how does Undying have a movespeed of 310 when he's a zombie but Batrider, who rides a giant flying bat, has a 290 movespeed?
 
So what are the odds that Valve start doing holiday themed variations of the map?

I want to see the rage from people about it at least.

There was a halloween_rosh file found somewhere I think. Hope it's true, I LOVE Team Fortress 2 Halloween, and TF2 Christmas, would be great to have Dota 2 Halloween and Christmas as well. Optional for the haters I suppose.
 
There is definitely going to be a Halloween theme. I wouldn't be surprised if it comes out the same time as Scream Fortress and the Halloween sale.

Didn't you find the halloween_rosh file? I didn't see it on cyborgmatt's update when you found that file. I hope you're right though, love me some halloween in gaming.
 
That one was Matt, the only thing I checked was if it was rigged up to be a new model or a reskin, at the moment it is just supposed to be a reskin.

You could do -sm for a snow map, which people used to rage about because it was broken in one version and then fixed. I guess everyone still thought it was broken.
 
I saw a santa outfit Crystal Maiden for Dota 1, and a Christmas Pudge, along with some Christmas trees I think. I want all of that in Dota 2.

I pretty much always go Decay over Soul Rip. Soul Rip is only useful as a heal early on, because if you use it as a nuke it has to go through hero magic resist and you're nowhere near the unit cap. Even then, if you hit two heroes in a Decay, you steal 152 HP (8 strength) and do some magic damage, which is better than Soul Rip at level 1. Decay is just too amazing in lane. Take 3 in Decay, 2 in Tombstone, rush Soul Ring/Arcane Boots, sap bitches.
 
New alchemist is fine. People are playing him wrong. He's way better as an active ganker. If you get a radiance by 15, you might as well end the game and farm less. It's like when I see a Magnus build a battlefury on the justification on making him cleave more. Smh
