Dota 2 Beta Thread 3: Gunnar Optiks Required [Faster Loading]

Wait so we can't deny candy now? The patchnotes said it can't be killed. That was a really interesting and strategic part of the game.

Also has anyone had the new items for DP, Invoker, AM, Windrunner drop in Diretide mode? I wonder if they excluded those.
 
Is there some special event or test-phase besides the Beta? I yesterday noticed, that i own the game by accidentally going on the main steam-site. I'm sure, it never showed up in my steam-list before (i checked it before installing the game over the steam site) and i can not remember sign up for the Beta. Wanna be sure, that i don't spend time with it and it will be disappear later again.

I think, not entirely sure, it is only to watch replays that was introduced a short while ago. Mainly if you want to watch the big tournaments. If you want the game, there are probably plenty of people with invites though.


And jum, yesterday I received an mythical item and have collected three unusual essences. I can almost fill up my egg, thinking of trading for another one, because I have a lot of essences but I'll see.

Ah ok, i did not try it, so it could be really just to watch the replays or something trivial like that. I will check out, if that is the case when i'm home.
 
Having no luck lately. Keep getting matched up against teams with actual strategy going on and getting steamrolled. Centaur himself is too fuckin beastly :(
 
Did any1 else but me have essences in their egg yesterday and all of a sudden it looks as if its empty? I had 1 red blue yellow and an unusual essence and now it's blank. I'm kinda upset :/
 
Opened a few chests and didn't really like what I got. The one highlight is a decent TA Geisha-style hair comb. (hair is pinned up like a Maiko, she loses the long braid)

I opened 3 chest and got the same crappy warlock off-hand =/

I've had one match and it goes into sudden death or something. I don't think it resets all the candy being held on heroes, so if someone is already near the bag with one, its GG.

I guess they could've done things differently but I suppose it rarely happens.
 
Is there a post or guide somewhere on how this Halloween mode works? I just got power back on from Sandy and would prefer not to go in blind.
 
Friend just got another mythical courier. That's his 3rd in 2 days/20 games. I've played 50+ games, nothing but common/uncommon with the odd rare item.

Why gabe.
 
Sven so good for phase two. Perma enrage due to cd reset, stack them damage items. DPS machineeeeeeee.

Also good for phase 1 ganking/team fights. Shadowblade/bkb rush.
 
I got a quasi essence from...killing Roshan. Are these things in demand? Anything good for TF2 I can trade for? I don't know the value of anything dota. Or do I just use it on my egg for some courier I really don't care much for.

Got value, but decrease by day. Traded my rares for 3 essences just now.
Kinda like steam sale coal I guess.

Yeah it's been pretty bad for me. Got the same sven sword 4 times. Decided to open 4 halloween crates just because I had the funds on my steam account already. Got two TA hair styles and two warlock offhands.

Luck is not on my side.
 
So far I've had great success with am/qop/prophet/wisp/ud/centaur/lycan.

AM/QoP are top picks imo. Get blink dagger, blink in, get as much candy as you can, then use your blink skill to get out. QoP better than am for the first 10 mins, am better than qop for the last 10 mins.

I opened two last night.

Got an uncommon Necrolyte staff, and something else (wasnt that good). Not worth it for me so far.

In funny news, I first time picked Lina last night to try her out. I have been using Diretide as a way to test heroes I haven't played. It lets me fiddle with item builds and stuff while having fun and earning hats.

Except I was in a normal game. And I didn't know it until after I had bought my starting items. (sage mask, tango, clarity) Not a horrible start but was awkward switching to typical DOTA after playing so much Diretide.

Got off to a rough start but ended up winning! (My team put me in mid against sniper) Lina isn't bad, as long as you play her as support/nuker. I thought she was a carry.
 
I tried Invoker for the first time due to Diretide. It didn't go well (wasn't horrible, but was far from good.) I don't think he's really the best hero for that mode though anyway.
 
Are the Diretide chest items unique like the TI2 chest items were? It says you got it during DireTide 2012 or whatnot, and then in 4 months they'll be buyable/drops without any fancy text on the side?
