I random like 90% of the time.

Still, the only time I actually played Visage was when the game bugged and showed me a different character so I didn't repick.

How many of you have played every hero in the game? I have had this game for a year now, and I still have played only about half of them...

The only heroes I've never played are:
Beastmaster
Doom Bringer
Anti-Mage
Lone Druid
Faceless Void
Weaver
Enchantress
Chen
Necrolyte
AA

Keep in mind though that there are a lot more like Wisp and Visage that I tried once and went "whoa, what the hell" and decided not to play again until my general skill improves.

Honest to god, some guy on the other team just convinced people on my team that we were going to work together to farm gold, and try for the record. I'm sitting there trying to tell my team not to believe them, and attempting to kill the other team. My team just lets me die and doesn't attack. Then the other team walks back and turns in all their candy. My team can't believe this...the windrunner on the other team says "you guys got punked". I abandon game.

You realize that the total candy numbers don't really matter until the last 5-7 minutes of the match right? Doesn't matter who buckets the candy - everyone in the game gets the gold/exp. Which means that you quitting the game was the only reason your team probably lost.

I played with every hero atleast 5 games. (wanted to see the hero performance bar)
And way to many games overall anyway.

Ya most of those I avoid as well. But FV is awesome and you should play him. One of the most trolley ults in the game. Its fun to use it for an overkill gank XD

I just worked down the list, watched the dotacinema introduction videos and had an alt tab guide and just went for it. After that I knew how all of them worked and what they did. Now I can random when I want and feel ok with most of them. I still suck with a core few heroes that I just don't click with. I suck with Rubick, Viper, Pugna no matter what I do for some reason.

I pretty much wing every character at least a couple times before looking up guides. I'm sure people hate playing with people like me. But I really enjoy discovering heroes and learning through mistakes.

For everyone who thought PC GAMER's DOTA 2 review was terrible, enjoy this:
http://my.mmosite.com/289425/blog/ritem/dota_2_defense_of_the_ancients_2_review.html

(and sorry if it's old. I just checked the last two pages without finding nothing about it).

DotA is far from balanced. the problem with DotA is that ability duration is far too high. stuns and slows have extremely long durations making it simple to pick off people and harder to get away. just because there are no changes to a hero's abilities does not make it balanced. DotA simply waits to do a lot of them at once. their last one was on October 25.
I love this man.

Tired mm after a week of diretide. Man I am outta practice or something, also for some reason I started to get extremely laggy outta no where ruined the whole game.

Feel like Blood Seeker has long since passed into viability as ganking goes. He's a fucking radar platform for finishing/finding kills once he maxes Thirst (6,000 range vision on non-invis heroes once they're at half health or below [25% for invis]). Vision being as precious as it is, that's kinda fucking ridiculous.

We need a word for that?
Nothing exactly novel about drawing terms of classification from extinct languages, Latin in this case. Look at something like Cisalpine Gaul vs Transalpine Gaul for the same terms used in differing (and ancient) contexts.

Played all across a combination of matchmaking and bot coop. There's so much variety in the hero pool that I can't imagine not having tried everything at least once. I only play a select section of them out of preference, but there's something in knowing who you're up against (also makes playing Rubick a hell of a lot more fun and effective).

Tip for newb supports: warding continuously is more important than rushing mekansm.

PRO TIP(S) for newbs. always, and i mean ALWAYS, make sure your whole team is nothing but hard carries. wards, pfft who needs wards, don't waste your cash on that non sense. buy something more useful, like a bottle. also remember to pick, then unpick, then repick your character, psych out the enemy team. also remember to rush rosh at level one, the enemy team won't ever know what hit them. also remember to alt-tab constantly, keep up to date with the dotagaf thread, or check your email, especially during team fights. and if you have an aoe attack only use it on one person at time, that one guy is so gonna get fucked up.

follow these simple rules and youl be mlg-no-scope-pro status just like me (please subscribe to my channel and like me on facebook, follow my twitter, holla at me on google plus, check out my myspace. for more mlg pro tips.)

Depends, enemy team is bottle whoring and roaming a lot? Get wards, enemy team is simply outlasting you in teamfights? Get mekansm. It's never wrong to get wards, but if lack of map awerness isn't the reason you lose, get mek.

As people? It's how I refer to trans people.

So when talking about differnces between cis and trans people you will both call people. Like when talking at a symposium, or reading an article.

These are out studies on the behaviour of ... ahem people and here we have the results for ...other people.

Stop being a smartass.

i really think your mid should have as much rune control as possible and wards will only help.

depends on the mid heroes and the time frame
youre gonna want wards over rune at the beginning for sure, but if you have some cray push lineup and just start apeing towers rune vision will not be as important anymore

I think that Diretide actually helped me improve in doter, my bigger problem was with decision making in fights, and there's so many in this mode... also I usually get tired after 2-3 games, and with diretide I ended up playing more.

We'll see when I start playing normal games again.

I agree that there should be a mode made specifically for team fights that takes out the whole farm and push stage.

Based on something like a capture point map in tf2, but in dota

That is basically what Dominion is in LoL.

I liked Diretide, I hope they keep coming up with creative game modes for holidays and other events.

My decision making has also improved from Diretide. My last hitting needs some refining but I feel like my ability to pick fights correctly and work with my team really increased in the last week.

On the heroes discussion, I've played every hero a handful of times each. I'm not a "main character" type, though I do gravitate towards heroes that I think can be real game-winners like Lion and Leshrac. Also lots of games as Windrunner. Very few games as boring agi carries like Sniper, BS or Juggernaut.

Speaking of heroes, is there a good list of what heroes are good counter picks to others? Like a chart of some sort? If not it would be a good project to undertake.

I just hope they actually start adding some permanent game modes, king of the kill, capture the flag, boss raid, fours teams of three, two teams of ten, siege mode, horde/MvM, radiant vs. dire.

(Diretide helped me improve shackle shots so much, I've become a boss with WR and I love it since she is my favorite character)

There is this: http://www.dotaedge.com/

Dont know how accurate it is... I have been learning picks and counterpicks based upon pro streams or casts.

My postioning got better with Diretide, I understand vision better and I got to play every hero currently in the game in a quick and easy format. This lets me have at least some insight to their abilities when playing against them.

Awesome

I'll refer to that next time I'm stuck with 4 agi carries and I need to figure out a counter pick so I can win 1v5
