History shows that they do for TF2 and they seem to be keeping up with holiday themes in sync with that game. Expect annual Halloween/Christmas/Summer events.

Don't believe so. In any case, you can set up private lobbies with bots if there aren't people in the queues, and it tosses random cosmetic items onto your hero to boot. Decent intro to the game if it works.

Likewise. However, this has been happening lately with Windows games that've arrived on Mac as well -- had the same issue with Aquaria and Thirty Flights a few days before they were actually posted to Steam, so hopefully that's the case here.
