Your entire team is level 25 and people have 33 assists. Meaning good teamwork. Which was my point. You can't carry by yourself even with AM if you have a bad team.

Oh yeah. If your team sucks there's no helping that haha.

edit: To reiterate, there's no single hero in this game that can win a game by himself. In the lower brackets you can get away with 2-3 of your team mates being noobs but the higher you go the games can hinge on one player's actions.

edit 2: I have that same green greevil, he looks awesome in game. His eyes only glow for the first 2 minutes for some reason, then disappear.

Reminds me more of Yoshi than anything.

Had a really exciting game with Wisp. It was pretty even, but they caught us off guard and we were split up too many times, so they easily got tower advantage. We had two racks down and the enemy had even one of their T2s standing, but we managed to play smart and won. Their Huskar quit late into the game, but honestly even if he was there he could do nothing. Just goes to show you that you are never out of the game as long as you plan well. The match was pretty funny though since the Tidehunter on our team was Russian and spoke Russian the entire match, but I don't think anyone there was actually Russian. He seemed to understand English a bit but only spoke Russian. He was good-humored though and didn't rage at any point. But Tidehunter with battle fury and no blink dagger, you can't even think that up if you tried.

yeaaah sorry, your point is valid. I was just saying how I trust myself as a carry more than pubs.

Just traumatized by my carries that got rocked

But seriously, you are not being "locked out" of any content. The courier may be ridiculously expensive NOW, but for the past two weeks it was obtainable if you put forth some effort (or got lucky).

My only problem with this was exactly the fact that it was NOT about putting some effort - it's entirely about luck, and I simply prefer to be able to increase my chances for a specific reward and work for something, rather than put 30 minutes after 30 minutes into a virtual slot machine.

But yeah, it was a cool event, I enjoyed it, and I've got 2 greevils, which except for the lack of the rare essences are the ones I was hoping for and they are great, so I guess it's time to get a bit more zen about the whole thing :)

2 more games on Russian server and they went perfectly fine. The Russians on my team (we were a party of 3) picked last and despite picking two melees, Tide and Jugg they didn't mind going hard lane once they saw us take mid and the safe lane. Not once did either team complain, even got an axe abandon due to idling and everyone (including axe) continued playing to the end. Angry Russians are the only ones who search outside of the Russian servers, being in Europe I don't mind playing on their servers less rage inducing than the EU or US East queue.

I cannot get enough of Slark. Snowballing out of control with +150 stolen agility? Love it.

I had this problem with TF2 also. I wish things weren't so random, I'd rather get some sort of in-game currency/materials/resource with which I could buy or craft the items I want. Instead of buying treasure chest keys, you could, say, buy 500 gold for $5, and a key would be 250 gold. Each match could provide 150-250 gold or so, ideally being scaled based on performance*. And you could still have the occasional item or material drop.

*And yes I know Valve doesn't like rewarding based on performance if they're still using the argument they used for TF2, but I just disagree with them.

They have things set up the way they are so they can operate under a F2P model while still allowing people to freely experience the custom cosmetic experience.

I'm really trying to like this game, guys. I'm really trying. I've played about 3 hours worth of bot matches so far, but I've only managed to finish 1 single game. The rest of the time I just get so bored and fed up that I quit.

I guess I should just ask: What about Dota is fun to you?

I appreciate the strategy element. The problem is that I am just not enjoying the controls and gameplay. I don't know if SMITE spoiled me with its WASD controls and 3rd-person action-style combat, but Dota's camera view, camera control, and point-and-click control scheme is killing me. Last-hitting feels like more of a chore than combat, and I hate how the camera is so close you can barely fit yourself and your enemies in the screen at the same time.

Maybe I'll try again when I get home, but I really haven't been having any fun so far. :(

I have WASD tied to my camera controls and 1-4 to spells with Q being my ULT and E, R, T being backpack active item keys. Much better for me, try it out.

Interesting. Is there any way for you to move your character without having to click on the ground? I really hate having to constantly click all over the ground in order to keep moving and not be an easy target for skillshots.

Dota is going to have classic RTS elements no matter how you configure it. WASD movement is not going to happen, camera automovement/autofollow is not going to happen, and in order to play the game effectively you have to learn to be aware of much more than where you're standing. If these are breaking points for you, well sorry, that's that.

As others have said, man up and play with people before making the judgement call, as what really makes dota fun is beating other people. Outsmarting the enemy, outplaying the enemy, and working with my team to pull the win is what keeps me coming back to this game. Everything in dota is a learned skill, so every player has their strengths and weakness. Some last hit and farm like champions, others have great intuition for warding and counterwarding, others have excellent map awareness and predictive ability that makes for efficient ganking and counterganking, still more excel at playing so aggressively the other team folds under the pressure, the list goes on forever.

Dota is tons of little pieces fitting together, and they're all very important to the overall picture. If you give it some time you'll either get to like it or you won't.

Just had a game with a perfect example, our Pudge was horrible. I was Slark (really fun in pub games btw) And went 7-0 on our safe lane, and took down 3 (!) towers. We still lost anyway. Because our Pudge was a retard who kept using his mic to "lead" us into bad situations. In the end he had the most deaths and was level 15 while I was 25 or something.

So frustrating to deal with those retards. He kept calling ME bad. While I was pushing lanes, getting kills, went in team fights. And he kept denying he was bad himself while he had a shit score and just kept swearing at us. Sometimes I wish you could report people 20 times jesus.

Yeah I think we've all had at least a few games like this. It's frustrating for both ends – he clearly has a plan he thinks should work but isn't, and you have to deal with him leading the team into disastrous fights

I hate myself. I can't believe I'm actually contemplating paying 30 friggin keys for a red Greevil. And for what? It's just a friggin' skin.

I don't think I'll go through with it...but damn.

i feel you man. i don't mind people being bad. dota is a learning experience that leaves a bitter after taste. but man oh man do i get frustrated by people who are bad and have bad attitudes. the attitude part just bothers me so much more than player skill. even decent players with bad attitudes just make my eyes roll into the back of skull.

yesterday, i had a pugna and a viper on the enemy team who, i kid you not, paused the game everytime they got a kill just to insult our team. every. single. time.

fortunately, valve's retribution was swift

I think replays last forever but they purged all replays once because they changed to a new system. So all the old ones from the old system are gone. Don't remember when they did that but I remember reading it like months ago. I think how the replay system works it's basically a big txt file saying where every thing goes and it just recreates it. In stead of actually capturing a big movie file. Not 100% sure but that's my guess.

For me the best part about Dota is how its essentially the worlds largest game of Rock-Paper-Scissors-Shotgun-Spock. The sheer number of interactions between any given set of five teamaates, or between teammates and enemies, is so staggering and fun to experience.
