Played against PyrionFlax in a game yesterdayy, he was alright, we lost bot lane to him though we did have a double melee, we won mid and top pretty easily.

Well the players are good enough where if they were going to level 1 rosh no one should die especially as fast as the np died, who wouldn't even be the first person to tank rosh.

Shit can happen, some luck chain bash or bad play can make possible to die at a lvl1 rosh attempt.

Also the psychological factor, its a final, game 2 when you only need to win one more to be champions, you see that someone from the other team was killed at rosh, that could mean the others could be low, you as five are close to the rosh pit, excellent chance to get some kills and get a big early game advantage, then everything goes wrong, it was a trap, 0-2. The Bait happened. We as spectator could say that oh no, that was "amateur" or "how they could fall for that bait" because we are looking the whole picture at the tranquility of home, but EG was at the main stage of DreamHack ingame, its totally different mood, mentality and picture.

Helps that isn't common to do that in a pro games.

Really happy to see nth succeed, EternalEnvy history is really cool and is good to see him succeed after his sacrifice, also the effort and dedication that they have is commendable. Good games this DreamHack and good storylines. Lots of teams got their chance to shine.

That's a gambit worthy of Hannibal Barca, goddamn.

the bait is one of the highlights of the year. It will only work once though
That once helped them win Dreamhack however, so I'd say they got their money's worth. Not like there's a hard limit on employing creative (and manipulative) gambits like this is in the future.

Not unheard of for a player in the pit to be chain-stunned by Rosh and succumb. NTH laid the trap perfectly from the draft onward, and enticed EG to bite by sacrificing the NP. They did, and NTH had the vision to be sure of it. That isn't amateur, that's being so inside the heads of your opponents that it's practically home.

Obviously the surprise factor played a lot into it, but a NP dying to rosh is unlikely.

The first thing np would do is create treants to tank some rosh hits, he wouldn't even be in range to get bashed.

Edit: Its pretty pointless to argue that its amateur though, since they are pros and it did happen.

What you're not taking into account though is that mistakes can and do happen, even in pro dota. Void Chronos his team out. AdmiralBulldog eats 4 napalm stacks and gets too close. On and on. EG allowed for that possibility and fell into NTH's well-laid trap. Saying this or that must happen and that there should be no rational deviation just doesn't wash. Dota is a game full of the unexpected. Even for the best.

indeed it was a great gamble and you don't even have anything to lose at level 1. Well except, if they get the kill.
Creative play is always good to watch. Something like the veno feeding wards to sf for the early dmg

Prophet tanking 10 roshan hits is a pretty huge mistake, lol.
So are the mistakes I mentioned, but they happened nonetheless. Sooner or later a pro team will capitalize on such things. Today it was one team creating the impression that EG could.

When it comes down to it, making yourself look vulnerable when you're in a position of strength is a masterstroke any day of the week.

Chronos being misplaced is a lot different than letting yourself get destroyed by roshan.
Not in practice, threw the entire fight on its ear and could have cost a ton. And it might not be just letting yourself getting destroyed by roshan, there's a myriad of ways to share tanking duties and still end up with someone dead. EG wasn't in a position to know for certain if it was a feint or mistake. If the latter, not going in costs them dearly.

Man, the community for this genre is by far the absolute worst across any genre.

Low Tier, you know, the tier where new players are supposed to learn, is smurfs and leaver central. Great way for players to learn.

I have to agree on the community bit. Compared to TPS/FPS and fighting games I've never encountered the kind of people I've encountered in Dota/HoN/LoL.

"Welcome to the experience" We're never gonna win a game =(

what's the best item order for puck?

Go mid, get a Salve, Clarity, Tango, and an Iron Branch, build the Branch into a Wand if the situation calls for it. Get a Bottle first, Power Treads if you're mid (leave on Strength mostly, but toggle to Int if you need the mana regen or attack power for chasing down something). Blink Dagger is a huge deal on Puck. Pick up a Bracer before the Treads if your game is going pretty well, you can build it into Drum of Endurance later which is quite nice. After that, I usually get Linkens or Sheepstick, if I ever get the farm for it, and whichever the situation calls for more. Beyond that it's pretty much your choices, just blink is a huge deal.

Valve needs to add a feature where at the beginning of the match everyone gets to place a bet on which player on the opposing team will leave. If you're right you get an item drop after the abandonment.

It's insane, really. I've been playing competitive multiplayer games for well over a decade but never encountered anything even close to being as retarded as the communities for these games are. Like, it's to the point where I actually start to question the value of human life. Someone should invent a device that allows you to stab people in the face over the Internet. I'd use it every time someone cried 'ks'.

I find if you say "I'm new at the game, feel free to give me advice as we play" then there is usually 1 guy in the group who is helpful to balance out the guy who won't stop whining about how his team is bad

Someone explain to me how THE FUCK we lost this. We knew from the beginning they had a horrible team composition, and we should have the upper hand, I was farming pretty well initially, then at about 8 minutes, Skeleton King was skilling his Vampiric Aura and KotL was just pushing, and harassed Shadow Shaman and I enough to have us go back to base once, where they then took our tower, and proceeded to take the other ones, then Doom got fed, and things completely went downhill from there.

If you want to watch the replay and point out some major mistake we made that I'm just not noticing, please do, because I am still seriously confused as to why the fuck we lost this game in the way we did.

Edit: I have no idea why Doom has no itema, he had a Ring of Basilius, Phase Boots, Scepter, and Vanguard.

Edit 2: We lost to a KotL with MoM and Armlet...why...I'm not bad at the game, I swear.

I'm not sure why I don't get this. But I've had very helpful PUB matches and easy going people. One person got all frustrated, but I was happy to troll bait him. Is it because I search all regions? Granted a lot of my games have people who don't know a lick of engrish, so they should be swearing their head off at me and I have no idea what they are on about. But I've had a thoroughly pleasant first few levels in dota2 and probably wouldn't have learnt the game as fast as I have if it wasn't for them :)

No idea man. A friend of mine who got into Dota this week shares your experience though and claims it's miles better than the HoN community. Maybe matchmaking has gotten better than it was when I started and is now better at matching you with other new players (or maybe the new players nowadays are actually new and don't have a shitload of Dota 1 experience already).

I seem to get an idiot in my team like every game. It's honestly to the point where I don't feel like playing the game any more. It literally drives me nuts just thinking about how the brain of someone who writes 'plz stop feeding' with a straight face works. I can't imagine them being of any value to society. I guess I just don't get why you're even playing a team based game with randoms if you can't deal with the fact that all players on your random team won't be up to the same standard as yourself.

I honestly feel LoL got better since they introduced the Honour system but you still get the occasional melt down. I don't feel the system works as well in Dota but I'm not sure why. Maybe because it's less exposed in the post-game lobby or something.

Went Dragon Knight, 7-0 and attacking their base at 30 min... finish at 56 minutes at 8-6. They just turtled their way to victory and we didn't have enough team fight. Plus our Drow went 5-15. SHE WAS THE CHOSEN ONE SHE WAS SUPPOSED TO LEAD US AWAY FROM DARKNESS.

Make a Mask of Madness, I'm only 10 minutes in but you're pretty useless at this point and probably going to be a while before you can really do anything. Also prefer 3 branches rather than the Slippers.

Also if you're queuing as 4 you could tri-lane top and then BH solo bot.

I had this one the other day. Early game went pretty well, but our PA didn't farm, and I was TPing everywhere keeping the other lanes off our backs so PA could farm, but she didn't pick up a Battlefury. We went down, but I put up quite a fight on the lanes, so much that the other team was saying "gg Tinker" at the end.

You'll see that I did, and later sold it. My usual Void strategy is to just catch farm wherever I can and get to a Battlefury ASAP. I don't really like MoM just because of the danger of what could be outside the Chronosphere if I can't catch everyone in it, like, Keeper of the Light.

I think you'd be better to just forget Bfury when you have a game like this, it's 14 mins in and you just have a RoH, I'd just grab a MoM and Maelstorm at that point. You also need points into Time Lock earlier.

Also looks like some bad Chronos, and you should switch your treads to Int when you're lacking mana.

Thanks, time for practice!

Axe is the most annoying person to lane against in the history of annoying people to lane against
KuGsj.gif

Silencer is a good counter against him since Axe has a small mana pool so he can't battle hunger you forever. Even better now since they buffed Last Word.

Also, annoying lane combos:

Keeper + Dark Seer: INFINITE ION SHELL. I was a DS in this lane and we had them at 10% HP pretty much the entire time. Needless to say we won.
Juggernaut + Veno: Oh is Juggernaut soloing? This should be ea-OHSHIIIIII
Warlock + Kunkaa: So I heard you like cleave...
Leshrac + Shadow Demon: You're getting stunned, just deal with it.

People like Keeper, Warlock, DS and Veno are always annoying to lane against no matter what though.

Pyrion Flax's guide to Sven. You better run away time man!

Ahahaha, I gotta try this some time. Out of curiosity, why is it that Kunkka's cleave ability is what you're supposed to max first, when other cleave abilities are usually left until later to prevent lane pushing?

Because Kunkka's cleave has a good enough range that you can harass your opponent out of lane with it, which usually outweighs the lane pushing.
