I dunno why I never thought to use Lifestealer's ult as a finishing move the way FNC does. I've always just used it as a farming tool.

Watched Merlini play Invoker last night. Never seen anything like it.

Was it recorded by any chance? I wish he'd make first person VODs like Purge does.

Holly hell...how can anyone play one hero that much? I saw a guy one time who had like nothing but Ogre Magi for his past fifty+ games. I have to switch heroes almost every game.

I like learning heroes one at a time as well. I wish I was naturally good enough to just random heroes I've never played before and contribute but that just doesn't happen.

admiralbulldog known for his sylla play, theres quite a few people that main 1 hero.

Im a slow learner so I find someone and play at least 10 games straight with said hero or I will learn NOTHING. On occasion ill queue with some gaffers/friends and let them know well in advance im feeling spicy so im going for someone new and theyll help out (these particular people are really cool and even if i throw we just laugh so its all good XD)....but thats pretty rare.

Usually for me it goes...OK i got the grasp of this hero lets change it up....Go a 1/2 round with bots to practice last hitting, hit a purge or other vod of hero, read a guide, watch a match or 2 in high mmr with that hero THEN actually play.

I had probably the best all around team match I'll ever have yesterday. The game was pretty even throughout the entire time until late. They took down our barracks early so we had to deal with mega creeps for a while. We had taken out two of their barracks but because of the megas we couldn't really push into their base. We were pushing out when a viper with shadow blade snuck into our base and almost destroyed our ancient with the help of some creeps. We killed him but he managed to get our ancient down below a fourth of its health. So for the next twenty minutes we played defense around our ancient while our juggernaut tried to push through the top and destroy their last barracks. They made a push and we killed their team and our juggernaut finally broke through so our creeps could actually fight back. Less than ten minutes later we were in the middle of another fight and our creeps destroyed their ancient. They kept pushing to try and finish off the last bit of health our ancient had and forgot to kill our creeps.

The game lasted 90 minutes. I don't think I will ever play another match like it.

So Polycount winners are supposed to be announced today. I'm expecting Rider of the Storm to be the overall winner.

I'm expecting a delay. And I really think the Archivist Armor for Warlock is the best set overall.

Also, I find if funny that people report for leaving. The system sort of auto reports for that. Now, if you are intentionally feeding before then, or verbally abusing before they quit, go for it.

I wonder if the winners will get their items in-game this week. For TF2 the contest winners took like 6 months to get in, but with Dota 2 they've perfected the system so they can check dozens of items a day if they wanted (versus TF2's system where it's about 1-2 a day).

This means they could potentially pick the winners today and have them in-game on thursday. Especially if they've been already implementing them as they went along and checked them.

Oh its a great finishing tool. Probably my favorite play as LS was a time where at the end of a teamfight I and another hero who was really low on health were pursuing a straggler who was also super low, I hopped into my teammate, we caught up, and just as he was about to kill the guy I was in I burst out and he died from the damage.

Not to mention the damage radius of his ulti is 700...which is a fairly large range (Invoker's normal attack range is 600 for comparison)

The only thing that I could understand waiting for are tutorials.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to how they do those. Even easy bot games seem to get a ton of newbies to ragequit within like ten minutes---to have the kind of reach they want they'll need to bridge that gap somehow.

I saw this post last night and I looked for the video. Pretty sure I found it (skip to the 1 hour 45 min mark):

I've never seen Invoker played, nor have I ever played him, so I probably didn't fully appreciate what I saw. He has a shit ton of spells and is hard to play, is what I understand. It was awesome regardless. What amazed me most was how Merlini is always checked all over the map — how the fuck does someone click that fast? — and how well he microed those fire summons.

well yesterday i got thrown to the lpq cause my isp decided to fuck up. ok well i cant be that bad i said. BUT HOLY FUCKING SHIT, 3 guys in my team dqed in the first 5 minutes, the other teams was composed of pricks and douches, one of my teams used the mic to tell orders that were bottom line idiotic. no exp and no items made it worth, you should be able to get points just cause you didnt rage to the amount of BS in the game. I wouldnt even desire someone go to LPQ (unless they are idiots or douches).

certainly im waiting till my "ban" is lifted.

I love that a game successfully implemented "time out" for once.

im pretty sure im a minority in the lpq tho, being screwed by your isp def sucks. and yes im also thankful this shit actually works, but there must be a way to filter some of this cases. also low level pubs report you for no fucking reason, few pages back ppl were discussing about being support in pubs(bad idea). logic dictates that 5 carries=insta win, and if one fucks up he is a 'OMFG UNINSTALL"

btw love your avatar.

Fuck I love Captain's Mode.

I'm really curious because I'm hoping to transition to Captain's Mode (someday) but how varied is it? I would imagine that, more than any other mode, that one would follow the same bans and picks that are seen in competitive games. I'm not sure I'd want to play something that has the same ten heroes over and over again (and why I never queue for AP unless I'm with friends). God damn Pudge.

Erp, I've done that. I think I've mostly done it out of habit since I didn't know the game covered for it when I first started. Should probably cut that out.

Doesn't low priority queue only last 24 hours? If it's as bad as the rumours make it out to be, it might not be a bad idea to just take a day break from the game.

I read this earlier this morning and got a laugh, but simultaneously: I'm horrified; because it describes both my fears and my excitement about this game, perfectly - I haven't played DOTA, ever, and won't be playing until it's out of beta, and this is why.

I think (read: hope) the rage starts going away as you climb higher too. With such a skill intensive game there does come a point where you're able to ignore other people's criticism which I believe is the root for that building anger. Third game I played today I was Sniper mid vs Pudge. I wasn't expecting to go mid so my items weren't great and I absolutely loathe the position since I'm only really good at the hard carry role (and have only been practicing hard support recently). Anyway, died a few times to Pudge before he started going off to gank and while I certainly out last hit/denied him it didn't matter since we had no wards and he just fed on everyone else.

Needless to say, I had the entire team shitting on me for the rest of the game for dieing so much and then for not running all across the map for ganks because I was behind on farm and levels. Certainly made me really angry but after criticizing my friends in an earlier game I've been mindful of keeping that rage in check. At the end of the day, the only variable you can control is yourself and there's really no point in getting mad. Those fastest to blame others for their losses seem to improve the least. Also, I've noticed a lot of the pro players seem to have a much better attitude towards the game and the ragers. Merlini in particular seems to almost never get upset or fall for people's taunts.

Anyway... not sure where I was going with this other than it stood out to me that the guy writing about being overcome with rage is still being matched with beginners.

yup its only 24 hours, i would take a break and i wouldnt be mad if it wasnt the last day of my bonus battle points. god only knows when im going to get another drop like that.

Holy Dark Seer!

Once you get the Scepter upgrade that wall becomes real dangerous. I'd imagine that in that game that the upgraded illusions from Gyrocopter alone would kill most of their team.

edit: Dark Seer is so much fun to play. Easily one of my top 5 heroes to get.

My dark seer play is garbage, wish I could get better at him. The ult vortex isn't hard for me its being able to contribute when you're not team fighting. I can't get into the mindset, feel like I'm farming too much on him.

Hope we get those winners soon, looking forward to seeing what sets are going in for sure.

What kind of keyboards do you guys use? I just picked up a razer black widow as my first mechanical keyboard and I'm enjoying it a lot. I do plenty of typing at work and the keys feel like gods of typing. I played one game of Dota yesterday with it. It took a little to get used to but I already like it more than my standard crappy dell board. Pretty crazy, I can't imagine playing Dota with your $5 Wal-Mart mouse and keyboard combo anymore.

All hail our mechanical gods. What kind of switches does it have?

Even yubes was talking about getting a mechanical keyboard. Maybe it will be the push he needs to finally get out of the dumpster.

The Blackwidow was my first mechanical keyboard as well, but now I primarily use a Leopold Cherry Red. I prefer quiet keys and the feel of it overall, but sometimes miss the satisfying click of the blues.

I know what I'm buying this weekend.

He linked me some maximum nerd horrible kbs, like ones that looked like you should be piloting a gundam with. He'll stay in his trashcan no doubt.

I don't think I could do louder than my browns, I really like it though.

This is the exact keyboard I asked for as a Christmas gift.

Good to hear that you like it, I wasn't so sure about what switches to go with. Blue seemed like the middle ground between the red and the... brown I think?

I rock this bad boy:

I like my flat keyboards.

Where the lights? Where the macros? Where the plug in fan attachment that keeps your hands from getting too sweaty? Where the LCD touchscreen interface? Where the pizza delivery button? Where the cooled cup holder?

Weak.

I switched from flat keys to mech switch/raised keys after ~6 years of being flat key only. Never going back.
