Calling it now: Troll Warlord is leaving the messages as a Grinch-like character, will be added in the Frostivus patch and will be the "boss" of the event. Hundred bucks, no five hundred.

Not possible because he'd be added playable as well which would mean you'd have TW vs TW and I don't think Valve would do that.

They're probably using a website that searches every public backpack and trying to add people from there.

I know there is something like that in TF2, so a Dota version seems likely.

Yeah that is what I meant with "missing something", some kind of search engine, tool or something.

im sure they offer legit prices as well.
Ill give you a stumpy AND fearless badger for your limited ti2 courier.....WHAT A DEAL!!!

I had to put on my pro that i dont accept random friends for trading and still get them daily.

I cant even imagine the ridiculous shit the golden roshan guys get daily.

Yeah, these usually smell so much of BS that I don't even wait until they offer, last one was like "hey, wanna trade like couriers or something?", another "Hello, do you like GTA4? :D"

Don't wanna have to make my inventory private, hope it doesn't get bigger.

First lost against a fat Drow, then lost against a fat Naix.

Why teams (me included) never manage to counter these heroes is beyond me. In theory it's all so easy.

Naix is a real problem. That built in BKB is really hard to deal with, and he can farm at a very good rate from level 1. Every game that has a Naix on the enemy team feels out of my control – if he's good, we lose, if he's bad, we lose.

Naix's strength lies in his ability to get up to a target and burst him down.

Ghost sceptors and one or two force staves on your team will counter him very very hard.

Also his carry ability tapers off at about 40 or 45 minutes against agility carries--assuming equal amounts of farm.

He's not playable during the event he only gets unlocked for those players who collect enough presents. If you collect 250 presents you unlock Troll Warlord with only his Q ability. 500 presents you get him with his Q and W, 1000 presents get you E and so on.

If not one players gets enough presents to unlock his ulti then he stays "unreleased" until we get another chance next Christmas/Frostivus.

These days I got a few guys who add me to friends and try to trade my ti2 Lockhound, are they randomly watching people's inventory or am I missing something?

Just go into your profile settings and hide your inventory for publics. I have mine set to friends of friends. I used to get adds all the time, especially this one sketchy dude that wanted my paint and my doggie. Had to block him to get him to stop adding me.

Man, matchmaking is fucked today. Had two games wher I got paired with someone with like 15 games under their belt. They never said anything either, we learned they had no clue what they were doing the hard way

I can't believe people are saying Timbersaw is a difficult hero. He isn't - you just need to have team synergy more than you do with gankers that have disables.

Maybe he just seems easy to me because he's like a HON hero. A gimmick, short cool downs and an escape mechabism

If you want to actively gank him, pick shadow demon (ulti slow goes through bkb and has a short cooldown). Stops his 'pop rage and run away from gank laughing' shenanigans.

If not, buy ghost scepter as others have suggested. That item wins pubs simply by letting support heroes actually do their jobs instead of getting eaten by the 3 melee carries on the opposing team. It also gives +7 all stats and for 1600gp is probably the most underrated item in the game by a lot of players.

my Sven and Kunkka joined bodies in the career profile...

God, the losing streaks just make me want to quit this game. They're miserable. And they're almost all to Sniper. The mini-crit chance on headshot is just too high right now.

Put a ward behind his tower so you can see if enemies are there to support him. And don't try to out-lane him like you would another hero. His harass is too good. Stay in the fog then gank him as much as possible when you can catch him 2 on 1 or 3 on 1. Use spells to do dmg until he runs out of regen and has to go back to fountain.

All good stuff, but that's an absolutly humiliating way to play and its very difficult for me to get over that.

EDIT: Mixing a bit of that in with my current frustration at that period where you have to turtle because the enemy team ganks whenever any of you leaveyour base, and every fight is on their terms and you're just powerless to do anything

I had a terrible game where drow sucked but we were still losing because of her aura. Every time we won a teamfight our lane was still pushed to t3 towers. So glad that's getting nerfed right now :D

We blew so many damn opportunities to push though so I can't entirely put the blame on that. It's like people don't know what freakin backdoor protection is -.-

Interesting. I don't really find it humiliating because I see it as just utilizing the strengths and weaknesses of the heroes.

Staying back and hiding around, letting him farm while you don't in hopes that you'll get an oppertunity to gank him just feels frustratingly powerless to me

i know that feel

Well the idea isn't to let him farm, but it's to kill him, making him lose any advantage he has from creep kills and giving you an exp advantage. Any combination of slows and stuns can kill a sniper in my experience. The power will shift when he runs around desperately looking for farm and you've got the upper hand since you're now higher level and can melt him wherever he shows up.

Sniper is a good lane harasser. If you want to beat him in lane you need a hero that's also a good laner. A double stun combo (for example) involving Sand King + a nuker will turn him into food. Shadow Demon + Kunkka will make him cry.

Hmm, that seems like a weird way to look at it. Some heroes will always be better against others in a 1v1 lane. You have to use the tools at your disposal. Ask for ganks, take over runes, gank other lanes.

He hits pretty hard, but he also goes down in a heap. He is not invincible

Right...that requires early game teamwork...I really need to find some friends I can queue regularly with.

Humiliating? You need to open your mind and get over any hangups you have over how you think the game is supposed to be played, or those losses are just going to keep coming in.

I know, I know. But its infuriating watching some smug asshole walking around forcing us to warp all of our play patterns around him just because he can right click on us and make our lives miserable from 0:00. Its not even like Huskar, where there's a certain element of risk-reward that I respect, or even Clinkz, who I find reasonably easy to control. Sniper just drives me insane.

Put yourself in the enemy players shoes. I guarantee you the enemy sniper player is constantly thinking 'oh god i hope they don't initiate on me anytime soon' throughout the entire laning phase.

If you're sending carries or melee heroes up against him, expect him to dance all over you because you'll simply get zoned off the creeps. If you've got heroes that are capable of aggression in your lane, then you should be able to kill him or force him to play far more defensively. He melts once any sort of slow is applied to him.

Also it is humiliating, but remember that if he uses an autoattack to harass you and misses a lasthit because of it then he's not going to be getting the gpm he requires to snowball. Time your harassing efforts for when the creeps are on low hp so he's in two minds as to whether to lasthit or hit you back. From your perspective, getting 2-3 autoattacks and some sort of damaging spell off is more than worth missing a deny opportunity. This applies to all heroes, but single target dps like sniper especially.

Sniper can't flashfarm well at all, he doesn't have any sort of sustainability in the lane (none of his regular item purchases give him regen) and he can't jungle efficiently, so he really needs a solid start to get going. If you can successfully brawl with him in his lane you can stop him getting momentum and then he'll just have treads/lothars at 25 minutes and is easily dealt with in the midgame (provided you don't feed him kills, obviously).

Good advice, thanks. I just need to hope and pray then that I'll get a team where the archtypical "mid" hero agrees to go elsewhere if he's not a good matchup.

If you're up against him at mid then you should be able to win using the standard 'mid' heroes so long as you have a bottle and good rune control. He's incredibly slow so beating him to the rune isn't difficult and most sniper players won't think about contesting it.

Illusion/DD = get every lasthit/deny for the duration (DD is obvious, but you can basically treat illusions as +60% damage if you just attack the target with all 3 of you at once)

Haste/Invis = Kill him

Not to mention the unlimited regen from getting it refilled means you should be able to trade damage with him successfully.

There's a reason you don't see professional teams running sniper at mid, and this it basically boils down to this along with sniper being bloody useless at ganking.

Burning does sniper mid

If you find Clinkz, who has an escape skill, easy to control, how can Sniper, who doesn't, be any harder? I can't give any tips for playing mid against him but if he's in any side lane and you've got a disable he goes down in seconds.

If Sniper is mid, call in a gank. There, Sniper's dead.

Fair enough, I was wrong about him not being a pro level mid hero.

We can safely assume though that Technomancer is not playing against DK.Burning solomid, and that the advice I'm giving is still pretty legit.

I still think if you're good at holding the creep equilibrium in your favour then the highground advantage should allow you to ignore his harass somewhat and your higher base damage + runes should mean you win the lasthitting battle. He's also very susceptible to ganks in higher level games if he has to walk into the river.

Time to ask for advice myself: How to beat heroes such as sniper/gyrocopter with their ridiculous attack animations as SF? They have base attack damage on par with mine, but a way better animation. I find it really hard to get any lasthits in the first few waves and it snowballs against me from there.

Go mid, stack the easy camp (or ask a support to do it for you), raze them to death. Your damage now far exceeds theirs.
