So I've got this
retarded
with a friend who's claiming that power > skills in all scenarios. He thinks that a team of complete randoms could defeat Na`vi, IG, Empire or whatever as long as the randoms get the better hero composition. He's trying to prove this by using examples such as a nuke will always win vs a ninja no matter how well trained the ninja is, therefor power > skills IRL, and why would dota be any different?

What's your take on it? Does anybody actually agree with him?

Somewhere between no and fuck no! is the real answer.

Well, my enthusiasm for creating an unusual red Greevil more or less disappeared, and I perused through the marketplace and put everything up for auction (3 of each coloured essence, two unusuals).

Long story short: I made ten dollars and am much contented.

Dear DOTAGAF LOMALORDS, a noob would like to ask you a few questions.

I did a little reading and decided that Lich should be the first hero I try. Am I correct?

I've seen from practise matches (I'm not gonna play actual games until I get the mechanics correctly) that going outright for kills never works unless I have full mana and my ultimate ready. Instead it often just causes me trouble and seems wasteful considering I often have mana problems even though I always use Sacrifice. Is this by design or am I missing something?

I'm sticking with the suggested build and items. Am I missing something?

As a support I'm training myself to buy and upgrade the supply at once, choose a hero to support early on, build up to getting a Mekansm and mostly following the team around while buffing and nuking. But I read that Lich is also good for lane control and pushing. If I see that my team has good control of the map do I contribute more by sticking around and supporting or should I go to a lane and start pushing? Or is warding and counterwarding more valuable?

Finally, is there a K/D/A ratio I should be after? Is something like 2/3/12 good?

The thing to remember about Sacrifice is that ranged creeps give much less mana (given Sacrifice takes it from current HP), so only Sacrifice the starting ranged creep or if your mana pool merely needs some topping off. I like to max it around the time that Frost Blast maxes out, the two in tandem make for a lot of free lane harassment or fight capability.

2/3/12 is well positive (in my eyes). Assists are just as good as kills if you're supporting, you're still contributing and getting gold/xp for 'em.

Sacrifice a lot, it sould always be on cooldown, eaten ranged creeps push the lane further into your way, eaten melee creeps give more mana.

Suggested items are mostly good. Magic Wand, Mekansm, Tranq Boots, ...
If you get bracers, go for Drums if no one in your team is going for it. Gives a good stats boost and the Movement and attack speed is valuable for every team. You could also try going for an urn, if your team ganks and dives a lot. The 7 str on urn is a nice bonus to Lich's HP pool. Further down the road, always try to supply wards for your team, get sentry wards when playing against invis heroes, get dust as well if possible.

Other items that are good on lich are Euls Scepter for example... You don't reallly need the mana regen, but the disable and the movement speed bonus are nice. If your team faces a very strong rightclick enemy carry, go for Hex (Scythe of Vyse) and disable him.
If you notice the enemy team likes to stick very close together, get Aghs to upgrade your ulti and wreck havok.

If you want to play/train with someone you can hit me up on Steam. Steam ID is in my profile :)

So, almost 2013.. who's ready for: Ranked team matches/team search, tutorial system, guides, QUESTS, achievements, the remaining heroes (techies), remaining game modes AND A FULL RELEASE MAYBE

Love the language, but when I see it pop up in game (on US servers) a pit of burning hatred begins to well up within me.

uh what? could have gave me those essence. you would have made a friend instead of 10 dollars!

So I think this was mentioned by a few other before;

Whenever there is an update for Dota2 my computer slows down to a crawl and the download speed is usually shitty... (it goes down to 200-300 Kb/s)
Even though I've got a pretty beefy setup and my usual download speed on steam is around 1Mb/s.

I can't think of a reason why this specifically happens with Dota2 but not with any other game???

Dota 2 uses a new download feature from Steam, it has something to do with your hard drive speed, most people get it and it's really fucking annoying. My computer locks up horribly whenever I download Dota 2 or Test client updates.

casually beating fnatic.rc in scrims, no problem[/QUOTE]Grats guys :).

How often do you see players during matches swap heroes with each other? DK just did so against LGD.int to throw them off before the laning phase and it got picked up by the casters, so I'm not sure if more do and it gets overlooked, or if this is something relatively uncommon

I was under the impression that Eul's speed is a flat increase and thus won't stack with your boots. Is this not correct?

Stacks fine, not sure what would make you think that.

Movement boosts all stack additively except for two of the same items (Boots + Boots, Eul's + Eul's, etc), and Yasha + any item that uses Yasha.

Gotta go fast.

Eul's+Eul's actually stacks completely right now but that's a bug. Build Eul+Eul+Travels+Drum on Krobe for good times if you're already stomping.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Sometimes it will continue into the main menu and be laggy there too. This particular time it wasn't as you can see.

This started the other day after 3 weeks or so of being fine, I then formatted for this and a few other reasons which solved it. 3 days later its back again.

You can add -novid to skip the valve logo in the command line (right click on dota 2 in games menu, properties, then set launch options).

As far as the issue that is causing it I'm not sure. My guess is some sort of software you reinstalled conflicts with it, or your hard drive is going bad (certain sectors having problems loading?). This is assuming you don't have any stuttering issues in game. Check dev.dota2.com and post on there if you don't see a thread.

edit: Nvm I see you made a thread. I know one of my friends was complaining of stuttering as well so its probably something on their end. Good luck to you though, at least you know how to skip the logo now.

That Giftgiver greevil dude showed up and we all killed it but we only got an extra present, no golden greevil.

Damn, I haven't had the fortune of seeing him yet but I've only played maybe 40 games of the event. Gold is overrated anyway. If there was a way to get the shopkeeper greevil as a courier though...

Thanks for your reply. Yeah I got directed to that site by a steam friend, figured I would try as many resources as possible. For now I will skip the movie so thanks for that.
Hope its not bad sectors. 240GB SSD which I dont think is in warranty anymore!

Just had a game where I had Doom Bringer, and I was full stocked on items, 4200 hp, the only threat was an enemy slark who my team consistently died to for absolutely no rhyme or reason, they just thought they could fight him but nope.

Anyhow, he was the only issue so doom took care of him, but I died in a team fight because they had aegis on one of theirs. We're down to 1 final tower/rax at bottom lane, but having won the last 3-4 team clashes and downing 1 of their raxes, we're actually in the advantage position.

So the idiot Tree on my team goes up and fights 1v2 right in front of our t3 final tower and dies, while the team still has long death timers and the KOTL is in fountain getting his HP back up. Then, when theres about 3 hits left on our rax and our team is respawning, our Clinkz goes invis and starts running up the mid lane without attacking the person on our Rax. he comes back but waits until the final rax is down, then starts attacking and kills himself on blademail.

I don't understand people. I just don't understand, unless he was purposefully trolling, what was going on in the brains of these two morons.

All they had to do was keep our raxes up until I respawned. And the tree was talking over VC throughout the whole game, leading people and giving orders, reporting every fucking thing that happened.

SoooOOOooooooo muuUcuUCuchhchh haaattteeeeee

Don't you hate when your carries go DERP? it's like they brain fart and they start playing to gods... even thought the fail time after time to push alone...

You try to put some senses to them... yet they think they won the game by themselves and do w.e the fuck a bubble in their head tell them.

I was so mad...

props lina, she played really well ALL GAME

I genuinely burst out laughing.

Oh and in other news TB joins EuroGAF.
Doesn't skill windrun, dies and blames omni who has his heal on CD. Also NO FUCKING COURIER.

Thats the main reason why I can never play Omni, people expect me to heal them from across the lane but for some reason think I don't have a cast range or a cooldown on anything.

its like if someone has omni in your lane, they go and always overextend and when hey die its like FUCK OMNI learn to heal. well shit its not my fault that you tower dived to 3 heroes with full mana.

I dislike it when people don't have intuition with omni's heal. Like if someone is stunned, instead of running up to them and letting them take damage from the heal, the team mate just sits there doing ranged attacks.

Omni's heal is probably the best non ult damage nuke in the game and is extremely powerful up until 20-25 minutes. 360 pure damage is nothing to laugh at, especially when its aoe and heals the target as well.

Hmm I guess this'll seem kinda weird... but which hero is the least item dependent in DOTA2? I kind of like spending gold on wards and placing them, and I feel like I make a better contribution to the team when I do that :X

Also I'd like to know more about good ward placement areas. I know that some parts of the map have eye marks to indicate places that are good for wards, but if there are any other places that are also good I'd like to know. For instance when my team has pushed down two towers in a lane so that the only tower left in that lane is in the enemy base, I want to know if there's a place where I can put wards to make it easy to look into the enemy base without the ward getting killed. This is so my team has less of a disadvantage fighting up the ramp.

And finally would it be a bad idea to get an item build that maximizes move speed as much as possible on Batrider? I'm not too good with the blink dagger yet, but I am fairly acclimated to the push stick and I want to maximize move speed to make Firefly more useful and so I can drag enemies away faster. I seem to die too much as Batrider and I think move speed is the problem there, but my brother tells me that I should be stacking HP instead :(
