I seem to have a general problem: I can never find a balance between farming and ganking/doing other stuff, and I always end up underfarmed. How are you supposed to find this balance? If I focus on farming, my team yells at me for not ganking. If I focus on ganking, I just get undereleveled and don't do anything after early game.

Wow, It's gotten to the point now where teammates jack the courier and take your items or destroy them. I had one guy tell me that I can't use the courier for secret shop.

Early Midas?

As a hard carry: You should be farming at all times, never TP to help people unless you see easy kills, which will contribute to your farm.
As a mid-ganker: Farm until you see a ganking opportunity that has a high success rate (factor in wards and runes) and is in a lane that actually needs a gank (that is, your presence isn't redundant).

Stay classy blizzard.

I love dota 2 but you can't blame blizzard for copyrighting what they can. I mean people call kotl Malfurion and everyone knows who it is. Same with pudge, puck, silencer etc etc. pretty blatant shit lol.

But of course it's valve they can do no wrong ;)

I have the same problem....always feel like I'm underleveled and never can snowball...It's also why I avoid playing carries..At first I thought it was because I couldn't last hit worth shit but after watching replays, I see that I actually last hit slightly better than most people (normal tier) in my skill level.. It's in the mid game that shit starts to hit the fan for me..

I can play hard carries, it just seems like in between is what I have a problem with. I try to gank, sometimes have unsuccessful ganks, and then I'm suddenly light years behind in farm.

Just had two interesting games with my friends.

First one was trying Mirana in the hard lane but was getting frustrated when our supports refuse to... well... support. The game was all kinds of silly and I was getting annoyed until I realized that my friends probably just don't know what to do.

So, instead of yelling at them I decided to pick Shadow Demon and just try to "captain" as best we could with a four stack.

The result was practically a resounding success. I had to tell some players to stop buying wards, which was odd, but since I was running around ganking and making sure our lanes won as best we could we quickly secured an early advantage. Only difficulty was a Faceless Void who did well mid and suddenly thought he was hot shit because we were giving him space to farm and making sure he got the kills and whatnot in battles. He'd make bad calls, run off on his own and do deep dives because he thought he could single handedly win.

Other than that, it was great. I can see why a lot of captains will play supports/gankers since it's a lot easier to co-ordinate your team when you're not spending most of your time trying to last hit and ensure you're safe.

Also, Shadow Demon is pretty badass now that I have an idea of how to play the game. Disruption and Soul Catcher just insure whoever you run into is dead.

Mute is your best friend.

Yeah, that button really got me out of the starter bracket. I generally find the people who complain the loudest are usually the worst. Not that someone blaming others for their losses being terrible is really surprising.

Edit: Omg big RPs in the IH!

On every hero?
It's a risk/reward. Is the game going to last longer than half an hour?
Will I be better served with ~2000 gold worth of items?

http://www.dotastrategy.com/forum/ftopic31062.html
My thought about this item- Hand of Midas, the only true farming item. Hand of Midas was not much used and IMO is still useless now. However, it gives 2.5x experiences so this item isn’t so useless. If you wanna get this, get this fast at before 10th minutes (if possible, get this at 7-8 min mark). Do not buy HoM if it is too late. It takes about 1000(16 min 40 sec) seconds to actually pay ITSELF back before earning more gold(190 gold x 100 seconds x 10 times).

HOM increases attack speed by 30, which while not amazing, helps some heroes farm faster and is a crucial part of some carries' abilities (like Void who has bash, and Naix who has a trigger-on-hit lifesteal).

It also allows you to remove pesky creeps from the jungle, which speeds up jungle farming as you don't have to avoid Wildkins (who take too long to kill) or Furlborgs (who do too much damage).

It's more than just a GPM increase.

D: Devastated, when I read this I hopped on for a quick game in memory of Doom Bringer. Went well, all competent players and team composition left it so I was the only real carry so Doom Bringer got his chance to shine one last time :'(

EDIT: ah just read that Blizzard copyrighted the name Doom Bringer >:(
not happy jan

How? There isnt even a character or unit in Warcraft with that name afaik

It sounds like people without no information coming up with an explanation.

Its also an xp booster.

It's not really hard carries I'm talking about with my farming/not farming dilemma, I'm talking on heroes that kind of middle of the road on how much farm they need, or supports. I'm talking Batrider, Magnus, etc.

Man, I'm in love with Axe.

Shoot me from far? I run torwards and axe you.
Invisible and surprise me? I stay where I am and axe you.
Stun? I wait a bit, then axe you.

I love surviving stuff and I love that I can one on one almost anything I found so far. And then there's that damage over time. I get so many cheap kills by people who forgets the meelee guy has one spell with good range.

The best way to play Axe is to man up in their faces.

You know you playing good when the other guys say "Axe, noob, too agressive.". :)

I never want to leave my matchmaking range, ever:

Their Void and Lich went long, leaving the Bounty and Slardar in the safe lane. Then I just fucked around with a non-support WR because I knew there really wouldn't be a point. Don't think I even bothered going for a shackle attempt after the 10 min mark.

From what I watched, you should have placed them slightly behind whoever Sven stunned instead of point blank on them.

I kept trying to do that and I was wrong every time. I also placed it right on top of them sometimes because I thought they would keep attacking and not move.

Medusa looks alright. I really liked the hooded design better, but maybe they got rid of it for cosmetic reasons.

It seems they also totally removed Drow's face tattoos.

Ugh. It gave her character. She lives alone in the woods, it's like she had camo on or something. Now she is just a blue hot chick.

The private matchmaking additions are really nice. They need to allow BP, records, and item drops to count for private matchmaking, or at least make it to where you can decide to have it on or off. I feel that when I play private lobbies people either A) don't play their best because there are no consequences or B) matches end prematurely because of this same reason. I think having an option for private lobbies to "count" would interest a lot of people. I know in Dota 1 it was only a lobby system, but now the risk/reward of MM is too alluring.

Normally I pair with someone that can stun them or root them, like Bane, Sven, or even Disruptor.

As soon as they get rooted to the ground, there goes the Torrent!

The torrent animation is pretty well known. :P

Huh?

Pretty sure the Drow tattoo change was a patch or two ago. Still upset about that one. She looked better with them, at least the cheek ones if not the one under the lip.

The cheek tattoos went like two patches ago, the lip one got obliterated today.

I don't normally care about stuff like this but I was really attached to her face tats. Imma miss em now :(

He still says "Doom reigns!" which is alright, at least we have that. I can't help but be bugged by how dumb it looks that his name is now "Lucifer, the Doom" though. He still brings the doom, but now he is the doom. He's like some 5th rider of the apocalypse.

The only thing you need to farm them is the blink dagger. You need to gank a lot with those heroes. Once you're lvl 6, check lanes, ask budies about a gank, go to lane and get one or two enemy heroes killed. Go back to mid for farm or push tower, depending on how easy is the tower. Wait for cd on ult. You can also tp to other tower if you can gank there. From there on, farm lines and work with your team to get good ganks. The problem with those heroes is not the farm, but learning to work well with team mates for successful ganks. Always try to gank with team mates.

I thought that was Chaos Knight? :P

Since he brings the doom and is the doom, maybe it's time for some face slammin' builds.
