Hey Gaf.
After the Dota2 Polycount contest with Brewmaster I was thinking of doing a set for another character that might not be receiving enough love.

Centaur Warrunner just became available for the workshop so that would be a nice pick.
Ideas to pick up a certain character would be most welcome.

Centaur Warrunner? We need less grimdark heroes.

Not to toot my own horn or anything but...

The mount is awesome, need some work on the hero, give her some armour. What colour are you going to go with? gold/blonde right?

Always do a double-take when I randomly stumble across a Gaf crew in a MM VOD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIPGGbHpKrs

Oceangoing fish, sharks, whales, anemones, coral, inhouse participants.

Time to watch this, free PG tips incoming.

Some fun IH last night, its much better since they added the shuffle balance option.

Rapier kunkka is fun :3.

Getting ready for troll warlord + bristleback + tusk this week. I'd like a cool centaur set. If you could make an awesome helmet I think you'd be rolling in cash. Dude is by far the most ugly looking hero in the game.

I just played my first game and finished at level 9 or 10. Is the current match the only way to buy items? Is it possible to equip items before or after a match? Where do I begin with new items?

Can't you also just lift him up before he reaches his target.

Yes, or any sort of stun will stop him too. Even sniper's mini stun bs from his auto attack will do it. I was charging across the map to gank someone in hard lane and sniper was in the middle killing creeps. As I ran by he happened to shoot me once and it stunned me, screwing up my charge.

You only buy items during the match. Look at the left side of the shop where it says starting items, core items, and situational items. The starting group is what you buy when the game first starts up, core for when you start to make money during the first part of the game, and situational is usually mid to late game and depends on what you currently need.

Nothing carries over between games, every match starts you at level 1 with an empty inventory. The Shop has a "recommended items" section that helps give you an idea what you should buy. If something looks super expensive (like 4000 gold) you can shift-click on it and all of its cheap components get stuck in a little bar on the lower right, and you can buy them as you earn money for them.

Generally speaking you want to buy health regen and some basic stat increases right at the start of the game. Buy health regen. I cannot overstate this. Health regen allows you to stay in the lane and get more experience and gold instead of running back to base. I see a lot of new players who go ahead and buy something like Boots or another item that uses almost all of their starting gold, and it puts them behind at the game goes on because they missed out on the gold and experience that regen would have bought them.

Every game is it's own self-contained thing. Think of it like rerolling a character every match. Your stats and item builds do not carry over.

Also, they all laughed when I got Vladimir for Drow. I thought that was fairly common, am I wrong?

yes you are wrong, read the darn thing: "Lifesteal bonuses from Vladmir's Aura only affect melee units." Get a HOTD and stack ancients, or get a MoM + Shadow Blade and gank people

Is he no longer magic immune during the charge?

Dota2Wiki said:
Some items are usable during the charge without interrupting it. Using Black King Bar right before you strike will ensure your charge doesn't get countered.

Does this mean that you can pop BKB while charging and not cancel the charge? Not sure because I've never tried it.

Thanks. How do I use the items? I couldn't find a way to equip anything. Also, in my second match the stats from my first did not carrier over even though I used the same character. Do I start from level 1 each time?

Either click on the item or hit the hotkey and then click on whoever you want to use the item on. You need to click on a tree when you use a tango.

Think of Dota like Counter Strike.
The only thing that improves from game to game is your skill.

False dichotomy; you could balance for both in theory.

He does balance around both in certain cases. Heroes like ursa and spiritbreaker were rarely picked in competitive, but we're constantly complained about for YEARS (by pubs) received nerfs in the recent patches. Most of the time, you have to balance around what a hero CAN do, not what the average player does with a hero.

PL isn't even very popular in competitive. He's picked here and there (sometimes worth a second round ban), but Lone Druid, Gyro, and N'aix seem to be flavor of the month. PL is annoying with a diffusal but he really doesn't become an amazing hero until he has his diffusal + heart + item. And before he gets heart, you should make sure he has 500 deaths with good use of dust, sentries, or a gem.

I don't know if you are talking about in-game items or cosmetic items.

In-game items reset every new game.

Cosmetic items drop randomly after a game or you can buy them in the store for real money.
You can re-equip purchased cosmetic items between deaths.

Thanks. For some reason I thought the characters carried their stats over from game to game. With so many characters the game is a bit overwhelming. I've only played 3 matches and each time a bit more clicks and I have a better idea of how I can help until I get better.

That bug someone posted here about repicking on 0 seconds just happened to me.

Had to stick with a Syllabear (I suck at micro), on a team with two other junglers, so I had to go mid against a Pudge, we lost all the lanes because we has 2 junglers, nyx safe lane, and medusa hard, And I got raped by the pudge, even though I was getting all the last hits, he just hooked me twice, proceeded to rape our junglers. Probably my worst game of dota.

Is there a command I could add to my config to make the mouse pointer bigger? Tried downscaling the game and while the image quality is great it makes the mouse pointer tiny.

What the fuck do you do against a Phantom Lancer and Ezalor lane combo?

I have lost 3 of my 5 last games to that combo.

Very strong combo. It's probably one of, if not the strongest dual lane combos in the game. You can't really beat it with your own dual lane.

Your best options are:
a.) Trilane against it. This requires everyone to have serious positional awareness for incoming illuminates. If done correctly, and you have sentries or dust on hand, you can completely cripple and kill the PL and KOTL.
b.) Throw away lane. Lane something that can farm without ever coming close, like Dark Seer. Hope your other lanes dominate.
c.) Scream at your midlane to come sit on top often.

And for future reference, heroes that do fantastic against PL midgame as long as he isn't ridiculously farmed:
Sven
Tiny
Nyx (buy a gem!)
Clinkz (buy a gem!)
Storm Spirit (buy a gem!)

Storm in general is an AMAZING hero against many current top tier picks right now.

I am having a very rough time with Centaur Warrunner at the moment. What is a gopd mindset for him? What does he really excel at?

It would be helpful if I could rely on my teammates for anything. At all. Watching my team feed Sniper and Riki early game is painful.

My last game consisted of me doing badly top, my lane partner also choking, then holding my head in my hands for thirty minutes. One guy bitches about Riki and then says he didn't know what wards did.

Great series so far. NTH could have come back in game 2, but their discipline more or less broke down on the retreat from 3DMAX's bottom lane barracks. Perfect Reverse Polarity grouping, and the rest is history.

He's broken dude. That ult is crazy.

The only hero I consider borderline broken right now is Silencer. Good lord that hero is nigh impossible to lane against and is a monster at all points int he game.

What is with the a.i. of the robutz in this game? The enemy a.i. starts team fighting ridiculously well at lvls 6-8, meanwhile the friendly a.i. is derp crew no matter what difficulty level you set them as. You could have two unfair bots and they'll go all ham, charge in solo, severly under-leveled and die over-and-over.
