Go to long lane and get a few levels, work on getting soul ring, skill march of machines, walk back to ancient area, use march at 53 seconds on ancients. Stack and repeat. All you want is your soul ring and bots. Learn to acommodate.

I certainly wouldn't have figured that out.

I wouldn't think level 1 March could do ancients...

It's a matter of knowing how to do something. That's a technique that has to be practiced and can't be assumed in a random pubbers skill set. At the same time, Pudge could have laned. Pudge doesn't have to mid. That would have been the easier, more logical adjustment.

Match making has been a bit inconsistent for us lately. One game (in LP) we get an extremely good 5 stack that we quickly fell behind and lost to, next game we get the usual smattering of pubs who don't know what they're doing.

Both games were stomps going in opposite directions. :|

Definitely. A lot of things that are done in pubs are mere matters of convention, there's a lot more flexibility to be tapped for those in the know.

I stated to go to long lane and get a few levels first. You can do it at level one if you wanted to.

The issue is that the pudge player wanted mid. And it could end up with both of you guys staying in mid lane fighting over cs and having decreased exp. It could also end up as the pudge player going to another lane, which would have been nice for you. Unfortunately, unless you are in a team of friends, that doesnt happen all the time. What I presented was a nice alternative that works well. Playing tinker aint easy.

I'm not sure it does but you'll be stacking and eventually you will kill them and boom lotsa gold.

Wouldn't this just be asking for trouble since you aren't likely to have much XP if someone from the other team decides to come check in on you while you're working on that delicious stack?

On another note, maybe I should just stop doing solo queue altogether. I lost seven games today in solo queue, then I queued with Vehn, we went Drow Ranger + Vengeful Spirit in All Pick and won it. The next game we had a 4-stack of Vehn, Batang, TommyT, and myself and also won it. I guess there really is a strong correlation of "You can win the game solo queue if you kick ass at mid." That was mostly how I had won solo queue games in the past. Trying anything offlane isn't likely to be successful unless your mid does well. That or the rest of your team is a 4-stack that plays well together. Otherwise I feel like wins come from the other team's screwups, so it seems like a contest of who doesn't screw up the most. Although that can be said about any game, it applies more in solo queue.

Am I anywhere in the ballpark here?

So I played a bot match right now on Insane difficulty.

Even if the bots are winning... they basically throw the game by having the entire team run into the well. I was brushing up on my Invoker and when they came to the well I just Ice Walled and Meteor them into a triple kill. They kept doing that until we finally won with mega creeps.

Dislike my lesh... seems off :(
Alot of factors go into this. Depending who you are laning with, you will change your playstyle. You have Sven with you? Go offensive, get that first blood at level 2 or 3. Laning with bloodseeker or some hero with no stuns or disables? Still stay slightly aggressive, as Leshrac has a great attack animation, and his presence alone is strong.

The first couple minutes in the game will reveal what kind of player you are..to your teammate, and to your enemies. The way you control, harass, deny, use spells will either put fear into your enemy or make them feel at ease.

After getting dominated by that Zeus in my match with Forkball yesterday, I decided to play a match as Zeus myself. It was my first time using him, not counting a practice bot match.

https://dotabuff.com/matches/106656254

I had a TON of fun. He is so squishy and has no escape (really wish I had bought that Force Staff earlier) but man can he nuke! I watched a YouTube tutorial before playing and it said that the most common complaint about Zeus is that he is a kill-stealer, so I really tried to not do that. It happened a few times but generally I was good about feeding the kills to Pudge. I had a pretty rough start but in the mid game I was able to secure some kills and rush a Refresher Orb, which was a game changer. Double Tundergod's Wrath turned the tide of several teamfights, but unfortunately we had been fighting an uphill battle as their Bloodseeker and Luna got fed early and took down mid and bot barracks. We weren't able to recover but the game went 57 mins because we put up a really good fight. Probably my most fun pub game yet.

Enchantress is a carry,
people don't believe me
I cry tears for my waifu

I agree, but wouldn't say she should be run as a 1-carry. I think she fits the 2 better. She does fall off a bit really late game, where a lot of carries can outcarry her. She does gain her usefulness faster though, and lasts a very long time, which is awesome.

Yeah, Zeus is a lot of fun, and playing him a lot early on taught me some great map awareness. The one thing I wish would get buffed or changed is his Lightning Bolt. It currently feels like it scales incredibly poorly even into the midgame. Maybe it needs a stun like Luna's beam or something, and lengthen the cooldown.

It's got a ministun, and Static Field does a pretty good gob of scaling all his spells late game.

In team fights, just drop everything asap. Ult - Bolt - Arc - Bolt - etc etc

Does it? I've always felt that the fact that Static Field uses magical damage instead of pure keeps it from scaling as well as I'd like.

Yup it's magical. I didn't say it was prefect, but I guess I've always been pretty content with what it does.

Zeus is one of my favorite heroes especially in pubs because people tend to forget just how much nuking power he has. Especially once you get a Veil.

lol. Only played a few bot games and watched some vids. I understand the basics, but how the fuck do you kill heroes efficiently? I understand that's not the ultimate aim of the game but I get owned by easy bots. They just stride up to me and after a couple of seconds I'm buying-back in thinking how that even happened.

Maybe I just buying the wrong items. I was watching a match last night and some guy goes Clockwerk and within 15 minutes he's decimating and laying waste to the dire.

I can only guess that you stun then hit them with an ulti. Maybe I'm simply not fast enough on the old q-w-e-r or need more time to understand items.

Different heroes are able to kill other heroes at different points in the game. Some heroes are just not strong killers, or can't kill solo but make great killers when with a partner.

Clock isn't really that strong of a killer, by himself, but he can get a level advantage by surviving fights and joining in ganks, which has its obvious advantages. He's an example of a hero who isn't much of a killer on his own, but with any sort of assistance, can take down a lot of heroes.

Anti Mage can't kill people easily at low levels, but at high levels he rips them to shreds. Bane can solo nearly any hero at level 6 or 7, but at level 15, he's a disabler but not much of a killer.

cw does so much dmg at lvl 6/7 its ridiculous. 100+80+75*7+autoattacks at lvl 7 on anyone he finds alone in his hookshot cog combo will kill basically anything bar centaur. His only problem is finding someone alone (no creeps nada) and the fact that his cogs still come out really weird some of the times.

zeus probably scales the best out of all the int gankers, he gets ez farm from arc lightning, plus his ulti gives you all the gold in the world from assists and kill steals. Once you get a quick ags scepter you are basically taking all of their supports to 1/4th hp, once you get refresher, you one shot all of their supports and bring the carries down below 50% ez. NO OTHER WAY TO BUILD ZEUS

Yeah in an ideal situation he can do a lot of damage. Most people that I've played with max rocket first instead of the mini-stun skill because you're rarely In a perfect 1 on 1 against a hero that can't escape.

In 1v2 sidelane you can pick up some kills with battery assault if you know your shit and bait them out of lane with a pull or something else like that.

After my 8 win streak I'm now on a 5 lose streak..

Oh well at least Dotabuff will die tonight/tomorrow maybe so nobody will see my pain~~

U noob I saw on neogaf you just lose, stop feeding noob, omg, help, why u no help me when I attack. Fuck u for KS. Neogaf says u lose!

Add me and you will always have at least two people to play with. Smash-It Stan is the steam.

I had a 90 minute game today.

I was sniper. We were pretty short on wards all game and we got everything pushed really fast. I got big and managed to keep the other team from taking the last rax. Medusa didn't even get close to carrying until like an hour into the game, and then he and naix bought rapiers which they both promptly lost.

And that wouldn't even have mattered. Every time the other team came at us, I murdered them in a heartbeat. When I died for the 5th time, near the end of the game, I bought back immediately, and still had 10,000 gold left over.

We lost cause of wolves and necronomicon creeps whittling down the ancient. It kinda sucked.

edit: oh, i just noticed that the team we were against was premade... heh....

Glad the Warlock set got in, that thing looked awesome. I also like the Panda for Lone Druid, if only for the fact that it will help me not get him and the bear mixed up.

Clock has some hilariously one-sided match-ups during the laning phase. If you're ever given a solo versus certain melee strength heroes you know you're in for a treat. Else, he just needs some help closing the distance before he gets hook. He absolutely has huge killing potential early on though, and unless you go book it drops off precipitously. That's how I feel anyways.

Interesting results from the DBR Poll, by skill bracket
However, the only thing I gather from it is that the sample is biased, "better" players voted to a larger extent. I'm not gonna draw the conclusion that "worse" players want it to nearly the same extent as "better" players, even though the results in % would suggest that.
Regardless, it does seem like a good portion of the players want visible stats though, much more than I thought from before the poll results were publicized.

I'm still in the camp that think that it should only be private (maybe with the option to make it public). I don't really see the benefits of seeing other players' rating, as you can see as much of your progress from your percentile ranking.
Recommend to check out the last MAAD, aui pretty much covered everything I think about it.

A lot of it is instincts you'll just learn over your first few dozen games, a sense of which heroes can do how much damage at what states in the game. Imagine that you can plot damage output at any given time versus time on a graph, you'd get some kind of curve. (technically it would be damage output at a given moment versus farm, but at your level this won't matter as much)
Every hero has a different curve and you'll develop an intuitive, non-qualitative sense of which heroes you should be careful of in the mid, early, and late games. More importantly you'll know where the hero you are playing falls, and thus what you should be doing at any phase of the game.

I thought only bad players wanted it private. :lol

I don't think I'll be fast enough to pick troll in pub matches. I hope they mess around with his melee animations before they push him out. I miss the little trails that troll had while ulting in wc3.

The panda bear thing makes me wonder if valve is becoming less restrictive with their color guidelines. The thing is pretty different from spirit bear and sylla's color pattern. Then again, if there is a bear running around who else could it be?
