Speaking of maps like that, I think it's unlikely Valve would ever implement it themselves, and would probably be impossible for 3rd parties to do (at least with the data currently available to them), but I would love to see location heat maps for kills/deaths/etc. with the ability to sort by hero, and view personal as well as public statistics on such. Location of skillshot throws (e.g. Arrow, Hook) and hits/connections would just be icing on the cake.

Basically what Bungie did with Halo stats.

Why is it unlikely they'd do that? They provide heatmaps for every other competitive multiplayer game they make.

All these cosmetic additions these last few weeks seem to be gearing for release. You need a nice full store with a lot of variety between heroes to make a successful F2P model, and this seems to be what Valve is building towards.

I don't think all those items will be added tonight though. Probably 4-5 sets and some of the stand alones.
 
Well all those sets are basically Polycount stuff that didn't win, so no surprise Valve is all 'sure, put them in the store'.

Yea, but only a few of the sets are actually in the item schema. Some, like the Tidehunter items, aren't really implemented at all.

That's not to say they won't implement them tonight, they did for Warlock's items last week, it just seems like an awful lot of items. The biggest cosmetic update since cosmetic items were added.
 
That Pudge scarecrow set is terrible. Might as well go all TF2 and reintroduce Cowboy Ursa.

To me the only absolutely terrible 'slap in the face of the rules' item set was the polycount naga set. Everything else is either good, passable, or bad.

I wouldn't be surprised if they brought it back at this point as there seems to be little reaction to some of the new sets.
 
Pretty sure Team MM is going to be a seperate queue and you'll need to queue with your in-game team for games.

Wasn't the reaction to the Ursa set more to do with the fact that Valve had empowered the community to vote on what they wanted in the game, but then went ahead and allowed a low rated item to go through just because they asked the guy to make it?

Jesus, that set is nightmare fuel. Bad enough, I jump every time I get hooked out of nowhere. Now I got this Jeeper Creepers looking fool hooking me with a pitchfork. HELL NAW.
 
Broodmother is amazing. Its so easy to push a lane with her. And once you have 10+ spiderlings, you can jump in the forest and gank the shit out of everything trying to run away.
 
I would laugh so hard at the rivers of quivering rage from the hat barons if Alpine Ursa became buyable again.

they'd probably keep the old ones as legacy, with their special rank and whatever.

But yea, had Alpine Ursa been added now, there wouldn't really have been any commotion. It just came at an awkward time when Valve was "woooo community yea! Go vote!!" and then added a set without votes.

It's too bad, but I don't really see them changing it. Any discussion of the item on the dev forums is instantly locked and it seems they just want everyone to forget the set was ever added.

she has a horrible winrate if i remember correctly. I am HORRIBLE with her. sentry and dust makes her useless. I think im 0-4 with her, its horrible

She's the easiest to counter invis hero, 1 sentry in the middle of her web and that's the only place she can hide. 1 dust in a web (if you just saw her) and she's dead. She's only good in low rated games really.
 
Man, I randomed Naga yesterday. First time ever.

Some dude also kept pinging me to use my ult like crazy and I was level 5... Then we lost and they blamed me despite my score being the same as everyone else's on the team :|

Then they kept telling me to use my ult when it was on cooldown. "NICE GOING NAGA! YOU COULD HAVE SAVED ME NOOB" despite there being a good 30 seconds left on cooldown...

Also I had more last hits than any of them...

I'm fairly new to Dota but that's one of the things that irritates me the most about it, the idea that if you die, it's always some else's fault.

the only time its true is if you fail to call miss/no wards. But late game you are responsible for watching the map and not crossing the river alone unless you have a way out

Also naga and void are both like that with their ults. You can either save people with them and turn a fight around, or you can mess up and help the enemy with them

at least at the end when my team kept going "lol gg, noob naga fault" the other team came right back and said "I love this part of the game when everyone starts blaming people." and said it wasn't my fault.

Truth be told, the game was actually pretty balanced. At one point we nearly had their bottom racks after a team wipe. We even got Roshan once (Nyx took it...).
 
I don't get blamed too often mind you, and when I do, I think I probably deserved it for the reasons you suggested. Mostly though, I see people blame others for not joining them on their suicide push towards a tower.

what I don't like are people who blame others in a game that is basically even. Like the end score is 41/45 kills. That's a real good game, well balanced, everyone about on the same skill level.

Sometimes games just sway in one way or another and it's not because a person is a "noob" or "fed" or whatever.

I've probably seen it more in All Random. People calling others names and mocking them. No kidding they're doing awful, they randomed Medusa/Meepo/Visage/Chen.

I guess I go into all random assuming everyone is pretty rusty with whatever hero they get, because unless I random Tide/Dazzle/Brew/Veno/Shaman I'm really not going to know what the heck to do at first either.
 
Not true at all, the problem is you need your team to work with you, which is pretty rare in pubs.

Every pro game she's picked in she dies constantly. I don't see how high pub players will work around that, even with a good team. Can she split push? Sure, but brood will still die a lot.
 
Very easy to shut down though. Many lower level pub teams don't take the simple steps to shut him down. Even if they don't the right heroes shut him down pretty hard (see Viper).

Ya I guess its not a fair comparison because I was just playing with random people in pubs. He is fun in the same way Troll is fun though.
 
He's a glass canon though, disable or slow him and he's easy pickings (assuming he hasn't been fed all game of course)

And thats the problem. Both games I was just getting fed by being in bottom lane ganking and jungling. I need to play more with him but for the first two games as a new hero those might be my best two.

I remember when you only played brood. go back to doing that instead of jungling, because we are like 2-100 in jungling games and those 2 are Natures prophet. Give up the bat son, give it up

yeah, i cant stand people diving a tower then getting mad you didnt go with them, I dont dive towers.
 
Diving can be pretty fucking entertaining though, especially early game lol.
It's really just about gauging if it's worth diving. The rule of thumb is something like "If you can't kill them in five seconds, you need to get out of there." If you don't feel comfortable making a dive, tell your teammate via voice chat or the chat a wheel ("Get Back!"). If they still yell after you explain why you didn't want to dive, mute them. They probably play YOLO mode Spirit Breaker anyway.

Some heroes are great at diving though. See Weaver, Puck, Morphing, etc.

My bet is the ones that have icons will be the ones added tonight, but maybe Valve will sneak more in. Here are the sets that do have icons:

We've been saying that for a year now.. oh Valve is doing x they must be releasing soon!

But they never do~
 
yea, I'd go with the ones that have icons. Those all are also 100% implemented in the schema, versus the other items which are missing names or other data.

Probably 3-5 sets a week now for awhile, which is cool. Build up a nice collection of cosmetics for the game.
 
Seeing as how I'm new to the game, I have a question: Is there anyway to see your matchmaking "level"? Something akin to the league system from StarCraft 2?
