Dota 2 Beta Thread 3: Gunnar Optiks Required [Faster Loading]

Well Dota 2 still loads pretty fast for me. Didn't see any noticeable differences in loading speeds. Good for everyone else I guess.

Ah, I see.

Another thing, what is fundamentally wrong with Bottle rush on Viper? I thought you should buy it on every mid hero. Even if Viper doesn't need the mana supply, the health regen is awesome, as well as the rune bottling functionality, which I think makes it more than worth it. Would it really be better to just skip it and go straight Wraith Bands/something else?

The things I was pointing out were not bad on their own, just in tandem it made your acting like you were blameless irritating. Bottle mid is always a viable option, but at the same time if you are playing a character that doesn't need it (Mostly mid carries) can just get farther ahead in levels while the other mid is refilling the bottle. They also make perfectly good use of the runes without the bottle, so if you want to steal them or snatch them up for a gank or a kill on the enemy mid its also fine.

Any hero who does not have an aoe spell to push waves should not get bottle my friend. Viper will benefit more from aquila.

Luna, Brewmaster, PL, Sniper, CK, Spectre, TA, QoP, Jugger, Brood, Riki, BH, Naix, SKK, ES, Huskar, Bat, Tront and Zeus maxed.

Come at me milkboy.

Fuck Last Word, especially if you're a hero with two or fewer actives, one of them being your ultimate on a long cooldown. That is all.

Silencer is a better lane harasser than Axe right now. If I had to make one change in particular I'd seriously up the mana cost of Curse and/or Last Word so that he can't spam them so easily early on. Make him careful with his mana.

I was watching H4nn1 stream and he maxed LW/Glaives and didn't get curse. Seemed to work well enough.

I was Luna, didn't have him in lane, but then when teamfights kick up. He pops the ult, Last Words me, and I just get bursted down by everyone instantly and nobody can do anything. Sand King can't get an Epicenter off. Magnus can't RP during the silence, I can't clean up with Eclipse. It's ugly.

Well Silencer has always had global silence and nothing's really changed with that. If you don't have BKB on Luna then the problem is on your side – there's a reason it's in pretty much every item build for Luna, ever.

Curse already has fine mana cost, especially with level 1 in curse being shit. I think they should just throw him into CM so we can finally gauge his harassing power versus his ease in getting ganked and his crumminess in multi hero lanes.

Yeah, and Lifestealer kept stealing my ancient stacks and I couldn't get there in time to stop him. There was one time I managed to kill him while he was doing it, but other than that he would just get it, kill my stacking creep, and run. I couldn't get the farm for the BKB, then a teamfight would happen, and it would set me back.

So uh, my game crashed(first time ever, mind you) had to restart my PC and now I'm downloading the update again? Jesus christ.

Just realized i'm gonna get my first abandon because of this! :(

edit2: seems like it's only 500mb this time, but still wtf. Is this an actual thing or is it steam trying to fix some fucked up files?

Whats up with the treasure chests you get after a game? I have 3, but no cash to buy keys to open them. Is there a way to gift them to someone? If you can gift them im willing to send them to the first person who asks and tells me how.

I have 2 of dark implements and 1 of the silent grove.

The Assault Cuirass theorycrafting makes a pretty big oversight: the armor and attack speed bonuses are split between item bonuses and the actual aura itself. Only the wearer receives the benefit of both.

What the carry gets from AC if he builds it himself: +55% attack speed, +15 armor
What the carry gets if his support builds it instead: +20% attack speed, +5 armor

35% bonus attack speed and 10 bonus armor are no small things lost, especially when you put them onto a hero that may not have the dps focus or the farm to take advantage of them to begin with. So it's in fact the direct opposite of what you said, it's a wasted slot for support heroes and a solid item for carries. Even if it were cheaper, it would still fundamentally be a waste on the support strapping a Mekansm and a Force Staff.

Well, my point was, that there are simply better items for a carry. The only thing that AC does that no item else does "better" is the -armor aura. And for that matter, a support couls wear it as well. As you can see in my Tiny example, a Butterfly gives him far better stats in every regard than AC. A necro is a better pushing tool and Vlads has the same positive effect on top of it all. And all these items are stuff that supports can actually buy.
If Vlads and AC would stack it would be something different.

Also I didn't forget the auro only gives so little AS ans Armor to allies. That's exactly why I think it's a bad item. There are better alternatives for a carry, but if a supports gets it, the aura the carry recieves is not really worth the price.

You can sell them for real money on the Steam Community market. And by real money, I mean 2 cents.

Whats the best Bot difficulty mode with least leavers? Played 8 games so far, only 1 has had all 5 stay and not had the "game is safe to leave" message.
Finding easy to easy now

No other hero in the game has the harass power of silencer without landing some sort of skillshot. His q and e are just way overkill in terms of early game damage when heroes have 400-700 hp. One of the two needs to do very little to 0 damage.

Random Draft. First pick on our team is clicking around heroes, runs out of time, ends up with Jakiro.

"Shit, I can't play Jakiro"

I offer to swap, since I'm a decent Jak. Ask him what he wants from the pool.

"Medusa"

"What? We already have Lycan and Drow. I am not taking a third carry"

I end up taking Crystal Maiden. He plays Jak, and sucks. We're losing by ten minutes to a Clinkz who keeps slaughtering our CM-Shadow Shaman-Lycan trilane because Lycan is always five seconds late to every fight. Jakiro says in All Talk "and they said we only needed two carries"

WTF

The other thing that AC does better is provide armor for the wearer, the most armor of any item in the game (tied with Shiva's Guard). Provides nearly 3 and a half times as much armor as Butterfly does, is slightly cheaper (650), the buildup components are fairly cheaper and available to plug an armor gap sooner, it's better in a push or teamfight for allies, and physical damage is nearly halved by the pickup alone. Attack speed and damage are not the end-all-be-all for a carry's items, Cuirass is great at what it offers.

But did you even see the stats i posted 2 pages ago? 35% evasion is better than the armor :/ And buying a talksman alone gives nearly as much EHP as AC's armor. With Butterfly you get 5 armor from the Agi gain and the 35% evasion are about 15 armors worth. Not to forget that evasion is much better than armor in this case because nothing can proc when you evade a hit. No bash, no manadrain.... And again if you have a Vlads in your team, AC becomes even more undesirable.

Queue with the friends here. Now you can blame them if they suck! haha.

BUT WHAT IF THEYF HAAVE MKB

BUT WHAT IF THEYF HAAVE MKB

?????????????????????????
Autolose ggwp

Edit: in all honestly, yes that's bad, but I take solace in the fact that taking MKB to counter evasion instead of going deadalus means they chose the worse DPS item.

Really not having much luck with Puck lately. I just don't know what the hell I should be doing/building for the most part. I'm not losing a ton of games, but I feel like I'm just squeaking by the early-mid and completely dropping off in the late.

His orb seems too easily dodged/avoided (despite the speed buff), which makes initiating and even ganking a pain in the ass. I also noticed a slight cast delay when trying to teleport to orb --> silence, which might be due to me mashing but I'm not sure.

Any tips for this hero? Any good skill combos to try? orb --> silence --> ult --> ... hide? One thing I think might help is orbing from the fog more often and pretending I'm Pudge, instead of doing it straight down the middle for initiation. Puck's a hero I want to like, but I can't seem to make him work.

Blink is a core item on her, but as for the order of casting her spells, thats up to you. Some will ult first, blink, silence, orb, phase shift, then orb. I like that combo best. But you can also blink, ult, silence, then orb too. Or blink, silence, ult, etc..

With a hero like Puck, you must take advantage of surprising your opponent as much as you can.

I did, and no, I'm not convinced. Conditional coverage (ie proc) and accumulative coverage (ie armor, magic resistance) are not equivalent, one always reduces damage, and the other reduces it part of the time (ever have a point of armor fail to reduce a sum of damage? no?). Further, when conditional coverage is countered, its effectiveness drops to 0. When accumulative coverage is countered, its effectiveness drops, but not to 0, given the ceiling can be raised with stackable armor/mr from items and levels. Evasion's ceiling is fixed, and its counter drops the ceiling to 0 regardless of how high it is. While its fruits are sweeter, its pitfalls are accordingly deeper, an AC is reliable damage mitigation no matter what. If you have the headroom for less reliable protection and a lot more attack speed, then rock on. Each fill their niche adequately.
