Man I love this game but boy can it be frustrating with a bad team (-mate). Had somebody on my team who went about 0-8 in the first ten minutes, all the kills to Drow on the other team. Drow was absolutely unstoppable within a short period of time.
I had someone today who went 3-18. Fed their Bloodseeker to unstoppable levels.

Phantom Lancer is fine. Yes he's one of the most monstrous carries in the game once completely maxed out, yes he has fantastic midgame with diffusal yasha tranqs, but he is perfectly counterable and is still ridiculously fragile before his manta / heart / butterfly. His agi gain rules but by no means makes him unbearable to deal with.

We're actually at a freaking awesome point in time where we have a ton of VERY viable carries that appeal to whatever strategy you want to pull off. We have Lone Druid, Phantom Lancer, Faceless Void, N'aix the Lifestealer, Antimage, Naga Siren, Sven, Chaos Knight, Gyrocopter, Clinkz, Luna, Tiny... And we have uncommon but still picked carries like Phantom Assassin, Alchemist, Weaver, Razor, Outworld Devourer, Dragon Knight, Meepo, Juggernaut, Viper, Shadow Fiend... There are even carries that I think are viable but undervalued like Mirana, Ursa, Skeleton King, Brood, Slardar, and Huskar (and unusable carries in CM such as Slark, Drow, Silencer, and Troll Warlord). It's very exciting and very cool.

There are some carries I legitimately want to see buffs to. Kunkka, Bloodseeker, Morphling, and Mirana could all use slight buffs. Lone Druid could use a slight nerf. Every other carry is fine in my eyes.

I LIKE IT. Can you post a screen of it on the Meepo?

Most of those people never get picked except once in a blue moon.

You know what I also think would be helpful for Kunkka? If his ult had a similar AoE indicator to Gyro's Ult. Like this:

Only thing dumb about lone druid is the bear 3 shotting towers. Think that demolish against buildings could go down to 20% or 0% and the hero would still be top tier.

Apparently, in Dota 1, if you repick from a character, the character should be unable to be selected at all. If that was added back to Dota 2, you could do silly things like Pick a character you don't like, and repick right after, to keep the other team from being able to get them at the cost of 100 gold.

Maybe it's the level of play I'm in but I've never seen any Phantom Lancer (ally or otherwise) succeed in my games.
I am the opposite, any time a PL gets picked that team has a 80% chance of winning. If Ezalor is on the team the chance goes up to 90%.

I once tried the Eza + PL combo myself and picked PL. Most boring game ever. My friend just gave me mana all day while I spammed Spirit Lance into death. Then I just farmed all game and came out with Radiance + Diffusal to finish the game. People couldn't kill me because of illusions and Doppelwalker.

That was my first time playing Pl and I haven't played him again since them. The hero puts me to sleep.

Well just had my first game as Nyx. Fun hero, especially since it was an All Random game and the enemy team was Shadow Demon, Windrunner, Lina, Drow and Clinkz

So how come no one told me Visage was so awesome? I've played 4 or 5 games with him and have won every single game. Picking up more kills than I usually do as a support, by far. Still working on making my familiars as useful as possible but I think I'm doing alright with them. I do have some issues with clicking and moving them sometimes when shit gets hectic. Just have to get used to them when they're hot keyed up.

Visage is awesome! I have problems landing the stun with the familiars... usually I keep them off to the side until there's a fight, then I just right click them onto someone followed by a haphazard stun. I'm always worried about feeding them since that 100 gold bounty is so juicy.

His nuke is amazing if you can get into a position to keep it charged through a fight. The damage consecutive fully charged nukes puts out always surprises me a bit.

My biggest issue when I see pubs play Visage is they tend to hold onto their nuke for no reason. You have mana, your cellphone bars are full, toss the things out.

Lol, apparently Mineski couldn't be fucked to update (and thus play) Dota 2 since last Thursday's patch, they left it until the last minute right before a scheduled tournament game. They trying out for a bush league somewhere?

Oh God, Pinoy Dota is hilarious. 36 kills in 15 minutes. Dreamz' courier almost died, but then they used the bottle that was on the courier to heal the courier (I didn't even know that was possible).

Speaking of Pinoy dota and couriers, I am envious as hell of how much mileage they get out of theirs.

Speaking of - I need to try bottle crowing some time. Haven't done mid in awhile or with a hero/situation that would make the most of it, but in pubs the courier always seems to be everywhere to the point where it might not be that viable. For example, I was playing Naix the other day and showed up to an (relatively) early game fight and ended up dying, but it probably wouldn't have ended like that if other people hadn't been monopolizing the courier - I had something like 2 completed items in my stash, but couldn't get them out to me, and had no reason to go back to base.

If I were to buff kunkka I would rework tidebringer. Maybe a stacking debuff that increases the damage of each successive tidebringer, but disable crit on tidebringer procs. Or alternatively allow it to scale off his strength stat, so something like armlet become more effective on kunkka.

Too much dependence on rng hurts a heroes chances at being played competitively. CK does have randomness, but its not like you're totally screwed over if you get a 3 second stun instead of a 4, or if you are 2-3 units off of where you wanted to warp at with reality rift. Kunkka's problem is that he's almost too good when he gets crits with tidebringer, but is otherwise garbage.

gotta hit those boats

Yeah if it's not Valentine's Day related, I've got no clue. Unless it's Chinese New Year I suppose.

Treasure of Dark Implements was just a random January-only thing, so who knows.

with TF2, they usually release special crates a week early to get a bunch of them in the system, and to build hype.

Seems they're doing that now with Dota. We'll probably get them filled this week.

From what I've heard, the dark crate wasn't really that successful, so they may be looking for ways to improve that.

and I wish they'd add crate items to the store a little sooner than like 6 months later. Those poor contributors...

I wonder how the money for key sales from crates gets split up for creators.

If that were the case they would be released on the day of the event not prior to it. People will just delete the crates if they can't open them. I would.
They've released early crates before in TF2. And delete them? People cannot resist their mysteries!

Really now? When that came out I know people were going nuts over the pudge stuff and most importantly the Lina hat. I've seen everything from that crate out in the wild BUT the Disruptor mount.

Best item in that one was the Lina hat, which was only uncommon. I only opened one and traded the Jugg sword for the hat. If the hat was rarer, I would have opened more because I really wanted the hat.

I'm pretty sure I read once that it's 25% of the cost of the key, if your item is the one that gets opened. Don't know if that's really fair to the people who created the rarer items in the crate though. May be different for the limited time chests vs. regular ones though. The legal agreement pretty much gives Valve full control - you basically surrender all rights, and they're allowed to do anything with the pricing scheme in terms of discount or making your stuff free without your consultation.

Looking here the dark crate items are less diverse than the Frostivus items.

tbh I would have switched the Sven sword and Lina hat and made the Pudge hook rare. The Pudge Hook and Lina Hat were the most desired item in the crate and both were only uncommon. Quite frankly, nobody cares about Sven swords.

That's why you gotta make sets! Though getting one of your items in the game period definitely helps your chances for later items. There were a few popular TF2 item makers who got their items in almost at lightning speed due to their quality and the fact that Valve has handled their items before. Hell, look at Anuxi now. They can't put her sets in fast enough.

ps Anuxi make a Lich set and I will send you my credit card info.

With TF2 and the Halloween crates, each item got 7% of the key sales.

But that seems super low, but I made 8 times as much from the key share than I do from regular owls being sold.

I don't really know how Dota does it, but I imagine it's fairly similar.

Problem right now, I see, with crate items is it's kind of a curse for contributors. While in TF2 it's a nice fat paycheck, and then steady income after that, in Dota 2 it's one fat key check and then nothing for half the year until Valve gets bothered enough to add them to the store.

They need a better system for drop/buy items. Right now it's all manual. For awhile items dropped as soon as they weren't "new" on the store and crate items were added within a month or two. Now we're sitting on a pile of previous crate items not in the store, and dozens of items that don't drop despite not being labeled new. They need a more automated system for this, because they don't seem to remember to implement it as new items become not new anymore.

The contributor could make a ton of money from the Lina hat in the store. Trouble is that won't be possible to half a year because of Valve :/

I just made a thread on the dev forums with my concern
