by the way nyx aghs is ducking op

Yeah it's really good. That game that you played with me the other day where you did it was the first time I had seen it used practically in a game. Before I had only seen it where a Nyx was losing and just rushed it or sold all their stuff for it.

I want a 144hz monitor for games.

I want 1440p for day to day usage.

I want an IPS panel for graphic/video editing.

I have to drop like $800 if I want all of these things together.
Just admit defeat and go buy an XB270HU.

It's what I did, and now every day I game in the company of Gods.

I really want to, but I'm still working with an R9 280X that I bought refurbished 2 years ago. I planned for it to burn out ages ago, but it's still going strong. As a result, I don't want to commit to G/Freesync until I know what my next card will be.

You know if you guys don't like Dota right now, Elite: Dangerous is pretty cheap on the Steam sale right now, and totally worth the price of entry, even with the impending expansion. Just saying.

Was going to pick up a 144hz monitor today on NCIX but I might wait until Boxing Day since the deals are usually better. Black Friday still sucks in Canada.

Yeah, I was playing it with the keyboard and it was kind of miserable. I already spent $200 on an arcade stick so I dunno if I want to spend a lot on a new peripheral.

I recommend some kind of headtracking if you can afford that too. I'll just quote Dreams from the E:D thread on recommendations for it:

CH Fighterstick (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006B84X/?tag=neogaf0e-20)
CH Pro Throttle (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006B84Z/?tag=neogaf0e-20)
CH Pro Pedals (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000512IE/?tag=neogaf0e-20)

A personally modified version of the best CH Products Map for ED (https://github.com/domdavis/ch-products-elite-map)

Trackclip Pro (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QKRD4DM/?tag=neogaf0e-20)
PlayStation Eye (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0072I2240/?tag=neogaf0e-20)
FreeTrack 2.2 (http://www.free-track.net/english/)
CL Eye Driver (https://codelaboratories.com/products/eye/driver/)

Voice Attack voice command software (http://www.voiceattack.com/)

The headtracking setup was about $35 total and perfectly replicates the TrackIR5 for $100 less. The CH setup was about $280 total.

I love every piece of the setup. I don't use Voice Attack much because I have every function mapped to a HOTAS button and for everything that isn't being run by a macro I can do faster on my HOTAS. And now that I think about it, if I were to map that last 1% to macro via the HOTAS, I'd have no use for Voice Attack at all. But it's a cool change of pace so I use it occasionally. I'd probably use it more for Exploring for a nearly hands-free experience and that Star Trek feel.

Lots of people use 360/One controllers. They'd be a fine choice I'm sure. Can't speak to the steam controller. Don't have one and don't know anyone who has ED that uses one.

All good recommendations, but this depends on how much you are willing to spend. If you don't want to spend that much on flight stick and throttle, there's cheaper sets of those. I use one that's cheaper but has been known to have driver issues with Windows 10 (thankfully I have found workarounds to all the problems).

If you've got a 360/Xbone/Steam/some kind of gamepad laying around, give that a try and you might be able to decide from there if you want to make the investment. Lots of people stick to gamepads. When I first started I used a 360 controller, having some less used functions mapped to keyboard keys. HOTAS was totally worth it though.

Wouldn't Flightstick + OR/VIVE be the dream?

Yes, granted the OR/VIVE aren't readily available yet though. Headtracking does the job for now. I originally bought TrackIR for Arma 3, but Elite supports at as well. I wouldn't recommend TrackIR though as there are cheaper solutions, but I already had it so why not use it.

I got to try E:D with OR at PAX South earlier this year. That shit sold me on VR, this is the real deal.

Expansions are the worst. I was going to buy Cities XL sometime either last year or this, but that was right when the Nights thing came out. Just makes waiting for the "Complete" or "GOTY" edition easier.

edit: Not Cities XL, Cities Skylines, no idea why I put XL lol

Elite is different in that regard. The game is planned to last for years (like 8-10 years) and have a new expansion every "season" (year). Sometimes there is a Lifetime Pass for sale in the Frontier store that gives you every expansion, including future ones, and beta access for around $180. With refunds being available, and the fact that there is easily enough content in base Elite to last you a year, it's certainly worth buying this to see if you would want to get the expansion. You will still be able to play without the expansion though.

Yes it would be. But only when the opportunity suits. I think I multitask too much for it to be a regular thing for me.

Yeah, this is a factor to keep in mind. If you're running cargo, you probably wouldn't want to use it unless you really want the immersion, but in combat you would definitely want to have it.

Picked up some new RAM and some little things on amazon/newegg as well. I enjoy cheap shopping opportunities. I can waste money AND feel good about it.

Well, I played the offlane Enchantress game.

We won with a Battlefury/Armlet/SnY/Crystalys Spectre.

Divine Courage build?

SnY is the only item in those that makes any sense on Spectre. Every time I see Crystalys/Daedalus on Spectre I die a little on the inside.

No, he explicitly said he wanted to try out Battlefury Spec at the start of the game to see what it was like and just went from there.

I said "fuck it" cause I wanted to try out offlane Ench.

I'm gonna guess he didn't know that Desolate does not cleave, and even if it did what would be the point? No one would be in range to get hit by it, otherwise you wouldn't get a Desolate proc.

I really wish that when people learn item builds on certain heroes, that they learn the "why". For instance, why you get Battle Fury on AM and not on Spectre.

AM - flash farm camps with 5 second blink, and split push, plus hitting everyone with cleave damage and then a Mana Void on whoever is out of mana. Spectre's skillset doesn't lend her to this at all since her Dagger is much more mana costly, and on a longer cooldown, it doesn't allow for efficient farming. Not to mention it doesn't benefit Desolate or Dispersion at all.
