Dragon Age: Inquisition | E3 2014 Coverage

ladies and gentlemen, the most downbeat bloke in Ferelden

Have they announced specs for this? I just built a new computer with a R9 280x and Core i5 4590. I hope that is enough to max it at 1080p w/o AA/AF.

Those type of characters are kinda old school camp to me now, cartoonish even (especially Edwin).

Let's see if Cole brings some creepy grunge like TDK Joker did.

Xan was my favorite! Onward...to futility.

First time i see this cole character, looks realy interesting character.

cassandra <3 will be my tank for my party, i guess this time i will choose rogue.

Will probably never use this character, which is okay, not every character is for everyone, there is always at least one character I never use in every Bioware game, from Vega to Carth to Fenris, etc.

Hmm I don't think DA:I will require a high spec.

It's built mainly for older generation consoles.

Eh.

This is Frostbite. Much like BF4, it will run on olderhardware sure, but to get the most out of it, you will need high end hardware or PS4, XBO.

Game will look amazing for a cross gen title. Have we even seen last gen versions? At all?

Not really thrilled about Cole though. Not the most interesting character in Asunder by a long shot.

I will be enormously bummed if we don't see Alistair again in DAI. I mean he's the king of Ferelden and one would assume the Chantry-mage conflict and
whatever is happening with the Fade
is also occurring in Ferelden. I can't imagine the Inquisitor is just going to run through Ferelden without at least paying his or her respects. Also, he was one of the best characters in DAO and it was such a treat to see him again in DA2. Really hope he shows up in DAI.

I agree with that. I preferred Rhys and Evangeline. Or Shale. Give me back Shale and I would be ecstatic (sadly not happening). Cole could be interesting though, depending on how they develop his character - I do like that Bio uses their 'spirit' characters to tell us more about the Fade each game and make it seem a bit more complex and ambiguous than 'spirits good demons bad' etc. If Cole ends up as some sort of undead version of Fenris though, I see him spending most of his unlife back at camp ...

My point about Alistair was more in reference to his being a party member or adviser - couldn't really see the King being one of the Inquisitor's henchmen, somehow :). But Steve Valentine (Al's voice actor) has confirmed via twitter that he's recorded lines for Inquisition, as has Simon Templeman (Loghain). So whichever of these is alive in your game, they will make an appearance even if only briefly.

As someone that read Asunder, I cannot wait to kill off Cole.

Interesting concept for a character but the way he was just an invincible emo Eeyore of a character was groan inducing in the book, so I can only imagine how bad it'll be in the game

could make for good banter

I actually......don't like the looks of the cast.....minus varric iron bull and the seeker....I hope they grow on me ;/

I think I'm among those fans of the series who enjoyed the first one. It was one of my favorites. Well with the second I was critical. I found it boring after like one playthrough. I'm really looking forward to this. To be honest I like what I've seen so far.

Was gonna check out the synopsis but the first page has far too many pictures. Tbh it looks like a five year olds hyped up collage. Is there a reason we can't just link to collections of these high res pictures? Even when it eventually loads on mobile the ss to text ratio is horribly skewed.

It definitely made me less interested in the game...gives the impression it's a style over substance title.

Thanks. I'm glad you liked it. I'll be sure to use more pictures on the OT if I do it, maybe some of my own drawings too.

Personally, I like it and it's increased my interest :) Looks a lot more colourful and interesting than a wall of text with some links to click. I hadn't seen a number of those screenshots, but wasn't aware there were some I had missed out on. I probably wouldn't have bothered clicking on a load of links, to be honest.

Apologies, misunderstood! I totally agree re not bringing him back as a main party member. That would be dumb in the extreme. Glad to hear he's in DAI at least briefly though.
I just loved the whole bastard who becomes a king thing :)

And yeah, I would have loved to have seen Rhys and Evangeline. Cole just never really interested me that much. (Way too emo, and yes, I know he has perfectly good reasons to be emo, but as he appears in Asunder he just really annoyed me. Hopefully he's better in the game.)

Speaking of Dragon Age books, does anyone know if there's been any news re a sequel to World of Thedas Vol. 1? It's one of my favorite art books and I found it really interesting as a DA lore/universe fan.

I am considering going FemINQ for the sole reason of wanting to romance Sera.

No, I'm not kidding.... and yes, I am worried about myself :D

I've been rather fixed in my decisions to be a Female Qunari Mage just because it seems like the most interesting character you could be in Thedas. I don't really care about romance options until I start playing the game and one character or another piques my interest. I'm also one of the few people that wants to see more Aveline type romance paths where there isn't an actual romance and it's all one sided or fails. That's why I wish I could forget who was romanceable, it's fun going in blind, finding a character you like and trying to romance them only to find out they're just not into you. Knowing ahead of time just makes it feel that much more like a game, min/maxing your romance.

Hah, no worries. Yeah, I loved all the Alistair stuff too, plus the antagonism between him and Morrigan was always entertaining.

No idea about WoT - I hope there's another, I loved the first one as well. Would also like Bio to do a similar thing for Mass Effect - I'd be all over that :)

There's a profile about Cole up on the Bio website, seems Patrick Weekes is his writer. Given that Weekes wrote the best bit of ME3 imo (Tuchanka) this makes me more excited for that character and how he will develop.

Weird, everyone was under the impression David Gaider was writing Cole, since he wrote Asunder and has talked a lot about him, plus Gaider also wrote Anders, Justice and Wynn so he's kind of had a monopoly on Spirity companions. Interesting.

A lot of good info in there. Interesting that for Iron Bull - who has been said to be afraid of demons - Cole's status as "a part of the team" overrides his possible identity as a demon.

Also, as a PS, Weekes wrote Mordin, Tali, and was lead writer for the Rannoch arc, but John Dombrow was lead writer for Tuchanka as a whole.

Patrick Weekes is writing Cole?! Awesome character confirmed.

Interesting bit:
[DA]: You mentioned that the player can choose not to have Cole join the Inquisition. Are the other followers going to have an opinion?

[PW]: Oh, Maker, yes. Vivienne thinks Cole should be safely banished, and Sera refuses to talk to "it" entirely.

Oops silly me, got my two favourite arcs mixed up! Cheers.

I'm assuming, based on the interview, that because of the Fade tears everyone can now see and remember Cole. Or maybe it's the Inquisitor's influence somehow that keeps his existence tangible.

I'm assuming it's because Cole has better control or understanding of his abilities and nature so he can better control whatever he does to allow people to see him or to forget him. But the tears and or the Inquisitor are just as good as any guess right now.

By the maker let me send him to the river of Stinx, please.
That guy look like more an undead to me than a living human XD

That's exactly what he is. A demon that took the body, or better said, fused with a dying young man, If I'm not wrong?

Ander was posseded too by Justice and he did not looked like a living corpse.
Jutice looked liked that in Awekening because he got into a dead body.
Here, we've a guy which neither alive or dead but still, does he need to look like an uncool undead ? XD

Sylvana Wiiner Runner of WoW have some style at least as living corpse/banshee... I hope in game he will look cooler than in the screenshots :P Because, for now, I want is to send him back to the veil, lol.

He didn't take the body or fuse. Cole was a little boy who was forgotten and left to starve in templar dungeons. The spirit came to him and stayed with him until Cole died. The templars burned the body to hide the evidence. Fast-forward to Asunder, and the spirit has manifested itself corporeally from the Fade, thinking it's Cole (spirits and demons can manifest without possession if they are strong enough. Possession is just way easier for them so they go for that first).

I look forward to BSN dissertations about the mechanics of having sex with a re-animated body and the proclivities of brooding demons vis a vis bisexuality.

Sylvanas Windrunner.

Cole seems like my kind of guy. I didn't read Asunder, haven't read a bioware book since Deception turned out to be woefully terrible. Was that ever corrected? I know they said they would, but I stopped caring after ME3 was a pile of Rubbish.

Anyway, Cole's sentiments mirror the main guy from FF9 with his quote "I don't need a reason to help someone." Good stuff. I have high hopes for the game Bio, please deliver.

If Sera doesn't like him, then he probably be in my party terribly often.

I'm playing that right now and I love it. That game is amazing.

So all but two companions have character profiles and writer interviews. Those two being Dorian and Solas. Seeing how I want to see Dorian the most that means Solas, aka Bald Finn from Misfits, will be the next character revealed. That or they'll give us a profile for Cullen and then Leliana and Scribe Girl.

Well it's been confirmed that companions pull a Cole when you get on a mount and disappear. Whether that also includes banter is unclear, but I doubt it'll occur then. Companions are always there on foot though, so despite the camera angle in most vids your companions are still trailing behind you. Kind of sucks they don't also have mounts, I blame PS3/360 memory limitations based off nothing, but it shouldn't be a big issue since mounts were put in to allow for fast traversal in places you've already explored.

Hmmmmm....might not use mounts until close to the end. Use the running around time to explore

There was fast travel shown in the game as well from the leaked Dwarven demo vid, but that could have just been a demo feature.

Maybe fast travel shown in the demo is for between area's and mounts are good for within an area.

Which works good late in a game when you have cleared out area's
