Dragon Age: Inquisition | E3 2014 Coverage

Considering how terribad DA2 was I am kinda surprised this is getting so much buzz and attention.

DA2 felt like a filler in between Origins and Inquisition. To me this looks like the true sequel, and that's what gets me so excited. And they are doing a great job of showing off the game and especially its environments.

Near the end of DA2 there was a really interesting little moment where Hawke is fighting some guys, and these two guys appear out of nowhere. I don't remember if they were Templars or what, but they seemed to hint at something in the sequel. Were Cullen one of those dudes? I dont recall seeing Cullen in DA. He must have been a minor character!

He was the guy in the Mage Tower stuck behind the forcefield, also a small part in the Mage Origin who you could flirt with if you were a girl. In DA2 he was the second in command of the Templars, you deal with him a bunch of times throughout the game and he eventually turns on the Templar commander in the very end.

Don't know about the two guys at the end. Grey Wardens do show up in Act 2 when the Qunari invade Kirkwall and say they can't help because they have somehow even more pressing matters to attend to. Is that what you're talking about?

I may not care for Bioware's output as of late but I love that they don't take shit from homophobes. That Anders outrage was embarrassing.

I had no idea. That's funny because I thought DA:O (and ME1) had the best treatment of female bodies and that they've regressed since then.

people need to stop throwing that word around. Glorifying Homosexuality to some people is just as bad as praising a thief a pedophile, zoophilia or a rapist. Its just how they see the world and it does not equate to an irrational fear. You do not come off any better if your response is just as bigoted as you imagine they are.

It does not appeal to and offends the majority of those who want their game. People don't want it and these companies push it. Problem. It's a serious issue they would do well to stay out of if they didn't want people to respond, but of course if you dont include this kind of thing nowadays you are "homophobic". It really is getting annoying. I do not mind at all if the solution is to remove these silly relationships from the game entirely. They are not necessary in the least. There are many minority issues they can tackle outside of this. It's just the usual gay bandwagon.

If you want to try understanding why people respond badly, think of something that you have managed to conceive of as actually being wrong or offensive and imagine you kept seeing it promoted everywhere as right and being put into media etc. I dont know if anything is objectively wrong to you or others here but this is what that is to a lot of people and that doesn't change just because the gospel of homosexuality is making its rounds. You can throw up your hands and jeer at it all you want but it is the reality that homosexuality is viewed this way by a great many. We are eventually going to be desensitized to a great many things but its not happened quite yet.

I really think they could find something else to do besides wasting time on these love interests. I already hate it in shows when people fall in low have sex etc within minutes of meeting (real time). Its stupid.

I may or may not mind the presence of the character. I have watched a lot of anime and the japanese do not hesitate to put cross-dressers and the like into their stuff. Never think hard enough to mind.

its a proper sequel to DA:O

Ahh thank you.

And yes to the grey wardens. I always felt those two grey wardens was a way of saying "you will see us kick a lot of ass in DA3".

In really liked the Qunari Act in DA2. To me that was the best storytelling part of all of dragon Age. And the reason? Because the Qunari were powerful and had compelling arguments with their attitude.

With the templars versus mages I felt like I was watching a fantasy version of keeping up with kaardashians! But the Qunari were really strong and a real threat and you could almost see were they were coming from. I was really hooked on the story at this part of the game!

You realize you just went on a full rant that is the epitome of "I'm not homophobic, but..." remarks that are completely and utterly homophobic and bigoted.

It does not appeal to and offends the majority of those who want their game.

No it doesn't. Doesn't appeal to, sure. But to say it offends a majority of their players is bullshit, otherwise Bioware would have gone out of business years ago when this fictional majority stopped buying their games.

I'm a straight male and you know what I do about the homosexual content in RPGs? I ignore it, same as I'll do here and I'll romance Wizard Grace Jones and get on with enjoying the game experience I'm able to craft for myself. The exact same thing you and your "offended" friends can do too. They're not going to take your straight character, tie him to a chair and waggle a cock in front of his face until you press a button to turn him gay.

You can still play a completely heterosexual game and others can play a homosexual, bisexual or even asexual one. Stop being such a downright asshole about it.

If you equate homosexuality to thieves, zoophilia, and rapists, then, yeah, you are homophobic. Homosexuality harms no one.

Considering I was raised to view homosexuality as wrong, I know exactly how homophobes feel. They may hide behind religion, but the truth is they just think its gross. Its a pathetic reason and should not be considered valid.

While I don't condone homophobia by any stretch, I disagree with you saying that religious people (such as Christians) hide behind the fact that they simply think homosexuality is gross. All of my experience with Christians who oppose gay relationships genuinely do believe it's condemned in the Bible and that God punishes it.

Why would bioware go out of business because of this? They haven't pushed gay men on their mostly male gamers. I can assure you, if they make the game a gayfest of gaymen its over. Even this little bit of a gay character wont be an issue depending on how it is executed. I don't even know how or why he would be gay. For someone to be recognized as openly gay they have to present their sexuality to you in some way or other. He will have to make some comment or do something to stand out from the rest of the characters as "hey I'm in no way straight". If the extent of his actions in the game are "hey, i'm gay"... w/e. I have no idea why a character's sexuality needs to be a significant aspect of the game.

Don't call me an asshole, ash-ashhole. My issue was mainly with the guy using the homophobe word and how blase the writer was about it. Also with the wider issues around homosexuality etc etc. I am no stranger to this stuff and I ignore it as you do unless I think too hard.

You realize you just went on a full rant that is the epitome of "I'm not homophobic, but..." remarks that are completely and utterly homophobic and bigoted.

you have no idea what a phobia is. The situation annoys the crap out of me and the clear decay of morals in our society is concerning. But ultimately I am w/e about it because I dont obsess over it. Comments like homophobe, when someone simply finds something objectionable, annoy me. You'd have to start calling people kleptophobes, pedophilophobes etc if you want to maintain consistency. Its just a tool to make the other side look bad and it does nothing to make the person using the word look sensible and actually presents them as a bigot (- Having or revealing an obstinate belief in the superiority of one's own opinions and a prejudiced intolerance of the opinions of others. <--- you are not immune to this just because your view is a minority view.). By immediately labeling people homophobic just because they hold views different from yours even if they are being reasonable about presenting those views and tolerate opposing views, actually puts you closer to bigoted than they are.

While I don't condone homophobia by any stretch, I disagree with you saying that religious people (such as Christians) hide behind the fact that they simply think homosexuality is gross. There are many reasons people reject it. I don't see grouping every single reason under "homophobia" as honest or helpful. The rampant use of the word is downright disgusting.

I have no issue with giving people option to be gay in a game without making a character gay by design. Otherwise it just seems like stepping on toes. Ultimately it will be a minor part of the game. I think its not just a gay character that starts all this noise but the whole baggage it brings with it. Like "why?"

If you equate homosexuality to thieves, zoophilia, and rapists, then, yeah, you are homophobic. Homosexuality harms no one.

Its a valid reason under some considerations. If you want to argue objective validity then meh. Eating manure is disgusting to a lot of people. Someone who loves it could take arguments similar to yours and pretend to have the moral high ground. They could engage in a social campaign to make manure eating acceptable norm and you would still object, you fecophobe you. Why do you not like the idea of your main character in Biowares next game being a fecophile? Stepping on toes unnecessarily.

My experiences have been that plus them thinking its gross. I guess we can agree to disagree. This thread is derailed enough.

it's going to come up again. Since bioware has decided to make these romances a part of their game they are going to be doing more and more controversial things.

What I would like to see is cutting the relationships off at friendship/companionship and add a factor to it in terms of how the companions respond to orders or how powerful their actions are. Not some silly "how big of a playa can you be minigame."

Down this path lies a ban, son. Don't do it to yourself. For you it's permanent.

yeah i figure. internetoftolerance. Its an issue that arises from something revealed about the game. shrug

This thread delivers.

Well said, by the way.

It does not appeal to and offends the majority of those who want their game.

You do not speak for me. As long as the gay characters bend the knee to my way they can do as they please. If they do not they will burn as will any other character that disobeys me gay or not.
I'm a equal equality leader.

Yes it does, and your post is a pristine example of homophobia.

Regardless how I feel about the romance nuance situation I won't let that deter me from buying this game, I actually stopped by Gamestop on my way home and Pre-Ordered it.

I really want a awesome RPG and I just hope that Bioware can reclaim some of those DA:O roots and how awesome and compelling those stories were.

Welll, Azix didn't last long.

Anyway, game looks good. The "plastic" quality seems to vary greatly from screenshot to screenshot, so maybe it'll be better on release.

I wouldn't take any promotional pictures to sway you on the level of detail that will be represented in game, unless they specifically say otherwise that it is running in game...

Haha. Just as expected. For one, we don't even have information on how many straight/caucasian romance options exist, yet some people are throwing fits left and right already.

Also, if Bioware do stuck to their guns and prevent Leliana to be romanceable, the amount of blue balling among fans will provide some serious entertaining material in the upcoming months.

Do hope that DA:I collect ample amount of information on the player's choices (a la ME), so we get some hard numbers on the ratio of male/female main characters, skin color tendencies, romance preferences, which characters are the most shunned/ignored, etc. Looking forward to that!

Sexy motherfucker

In terms of design: Cullen > Vivienne > The Iron Bull > Leliana > Dorian > Varric > Sera (in some pics looks good, in others like shit) > Solas > Blackwall > Cole (he doesn't look bad, but i'm not too fond of the emo look, I need to see him in gameplay) > Cassandra (the only character that looks really bad IMO, and that's weird considering her importance in the game).

Do we know if this game has co-op

There were quite a few rumors of a multiplayer mode while the game was still early in development but considering how close it is to release now without even a mention of multiplayer I have to imagine it was scrapped if it ever even existed at all.

Well, let's not be too hasty. E3 was their biggest show so far to really sell people on the SP portion of the game. That's the most important part and after DA2s reception, doubly so. They're still in the doghouse with people. They can still reveal MP at GamesCom, if it exists and that's fine.

I hope there is a multiplayer, but I wouldn't mind if its something they plan on only releasing later, even as a paid dlc. SP looks like it will be worth the $60 alone and occupy my time for at least a month.

I'm still a bit skeptical that there will be any multiplayer since it would be odd to reveal it so close to release, but they did say that E3 was the real start to their marketing campaign. So it would be crazy to think with that in mind that they're looking to unveil later to help get more exposure and hype going for the game. Only time will tell unfortunately, less than 100 days till release.

They could easily wait until PAX if they wanted to. I think it would actually be smart to focus and lead on the SP since thats what DA has always been about, and where most of there fanbase is focused. Its still too soon to call I think, but yeah if PAX comes and still no MP reveal, it ain't happening. Not at launch at least.

While I'm highly optimistic for DA:I and I like most of what they've showed so far, it boggles my mind that people would pre-order it after DA2. Why don't you wait for reviews first? It's not like it's gonna run out of stock

If they reveal it at PAX or GC they can immediately put it in people's hands. That would help to dispel a lot of skepticism, if it's actually good.

Again, assuming it's even happening. I don't really care one way or the other. I'm in it for SP.

I don't care either way. I played a lot of ME3 Multiplayer, in beta, but after the actual game came out I just didn't care anymore outside of getting my readiness rating up. Even if they're really good I really don't care for most MP games. I might play them for a little bit but I get my fill and move on to other things. And I know that MP doesn't take away from the SP, so whether it's there or not really doesn't affect me.
