The corny song that plays when Gohan turns SSJ2 in the Japanese dub is something I just can't take seriously. I expected Euforia by Loreen to play when he transformed. Actually, someone should make an edit with that.

I swear I've seen everything now - people throwing shade at one of the GOAT insert songs in like all of anime. SMH.

You're entitled to this opinion of course. Not hatin'. Just stunned and disappointed :(

This is how Gohan's SSJ2 transformation should've been in the dub: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6fODP5h9SY

Bruce fucked it up big time with the original version. Can't believe he chose not to use Gohan's anger in the initial episode ending transformation. Love Faulconer but that was his biggest mistake.

The Japanese version is absolutely elite though. The ozaru roar, the music, it just ties so beautifully.

My cousin and I marathoned the first 10 episodes of Super yesterday.

It's honestly not that bad in a marathon setting, though it's obvious how badly they draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag the battle of gods story across multiple episodes.

Also, we were legit laughing out loud at the animation in episode 5.

It just seems worse because we want to get to the new stuff fast. When you watch everything at once it's probably fine.

The Goku/Beerus fight in Super is so much better than in BoG, and has some really nice animation for a lot of it too. Shame the Frieza arc has been so lackluster in comparison, but maybe the next couple eps will turn it up more.

i don't understand how anyone can say that super is dragging things out.

The Battle of Gods arc kind of was dragged, like when they extended the rock paper scissors game from the movie to take 3/4s of an episode. The Revival F remake isn't dragging things though. They could go faster, but that's only if they assumed that the audience already knew the movie's events, like the manga did with the BoG's arc, but the Super anime clearly isn't doing that.

just keep reminding yourself

one more month til the new material

one more month til the new material

one more month til the new material

I think I'm going to watch my ocean dub DVD in the meantime because why not.
One month eh? Okay, I can do that.

Respect for Ocean dub, Drummond Vegeta 4 life

Goku is sick and tired of Gohan's shit

of course a dragon god would need to file a patent for the dragonball design, its dbz

They're setting up Gohan. I'm tellin yall. He's gonna surprise everyone. They wouldn't have Goku react to it so strongly here if it wasn't settin up

It's hilarious because
he was the one who rejected Vegeta's idea to bring him to begin with!

Also considering
literally everyone else and their mom is there to watch, something HAS to be going on. Parallel story on Earth, get ready you guys.

Parallel story on earth is going be Gohan as the great saiyaman and his fight against some criminals. Soon he finds out he's not strong enough for that and hangs up his cape. One night when walking home (at this point he is not able to fly anymore) and in a dark alley some robber points a knife at him demanding money. He just gives in. This happens for months, eventually he runs out of money and must live on the street. Then he is finally sick of it, tries to fight back and ends up in the hospital. He dies and we can finally move on.

DBZ has always been about "blah blah, fighting, blah blah, filler, fighting".

But the fighting parts have always been incredibly rewarding, and made the fillers and slow pace worth it.

Here, it's mimicking the worse of DBZ, while providing pathetic action.

Not a single action scene lasts more than 5 seconds, it's okay looking at best when it's not flat out bad, and then you have 4 minutes of blah blah or other characters scenes.

They make the fights an absolute bore.

I hope the tournament arc will force them to stop that bullshit. All they do right now if find excuses to not show them fight. Worse part is when they have close ups of Bulma and you "hear" the fight that apparently decided to be dynamic while nobody is watching...

If anything I like the fights in the series better than the movies ignoring animation. The RoF fight for example was extremely one-sided and had less substance.

The Beerus fight was a commendable effort.

They gave Goku and Beerus new powers, they created a lot of new scenes for it.

The RoF fight is shit. Plus it's too easy to say "animation aside".

If you base off your entire fight off brawling and not on anything meaningful / strategic, then obviously animation is gonna be 90% of that scene.

"A guy punches another guy", the animation and direction is what can make that action interesting or not.

The RoF arc so far has been an absolute disgrace on that front. And Besides a few dialogues here and there, it's pretty much the movie : bad version so far.

They should have dragged the Frieza Revived saga instead of the God arc.

Goku/Vegeta training.
Z-Warriors vs. Frieza's squad.
Krillin getting his fighting confidence back.
Frieza being pissed at Goten & Trunks for resembling the people who killed him.
Tagoma
Ginyu
Tagoma (a great idea wasted)
Gohan having one final, fend them off until Goku gets here, fight. Him vs. Tagoma could be an episode.

It could have made for something quite compelling, but the rushed pace, terrible writing (not the fansubs but the scenarios the characters are written into), and shitty animation combine to make it something I can't see myself watching again and enjoying.

The movie version of this arc felt hollow compared to the anime version IMO and the main reason I said "animation aside" is because no matter how good the series looked the movie would always have been animation. This new version has already alleviated some of the issues I had with the movie version.

BoG is more important going forward.

Viz is having a huge sale on manga on the iBooks store and I just bought the entire original DB series. It's so crazy how
back in the day, training under Master Roshi made you special and now Goku is training under gods...

All I know is I really appreciate the simpler times of DB where it was simply martial arts, crude jokes/scenes, and adventure. I've seen the DB anime but this is my first time going through the manga and it's nice seeing where everyone came from again. After I finish reading DB/DBZ and catch up on Super, I'll be ready for the new anime arc next year.

This is pretty much how I feel about the show so far. The Beerus fight really added a lot of good stuff. So far the Frieza arc isn't up to par, especially by cutting out almost all of the fighting of the rest of the characters.

edit: stuff like this was pretty good

I agree. the transformation to ssgod in super was actually pretty cool and much more epic than in the movie but the transformation to ssblue was handled poorly

same goes for the "tickle" fight between goku and beerus which wasn't in the movie

They even had God Goku in space, regenerating, absorbing KI balls, doing a god kamehameha...

Goku vs Freezer so far is literally a shitty version of the movie, where the action is cut every 3 seconds by filler and padding (not lying, there is not a single action scene longer than 3 seconds that isn't cut by something else, except if we count "beam struggles" and close ups). And the action ranges from unimpressive to awful.

This wasn't the case with the Beerus fight.

I'm sorry I don't have any feelings for it beyond "I saw much later in life and think it's very corny".

Actually honestly I think the reaction to me not liking it is pretty stunning. lmao.

New half-saiyan plot point: loses their saiyan powers later in life.

This is a shame to hear since RoF was the movie that I thought could benefit the most from expanding on it. BoG was fine, but I'm glad the anime seems to have expanded it in a cool way. Maybe they just want to hurry up and get to the new stuff already lol.

They are, FnF arc is over in 3 episodes.

The Goku vs Freezer is a shit fest. There is just nothing compelling about it. it's Goku punches Freezer then you have a close up of Bulma. Rince and repeat, that's the whole fight.

Goku ends up losing you can't even tell why because you haven't seen anything from the actual fight except for crappy "2 seconds long" melee shots once in a while. :/

This show has been great for fillers and humor so far, which is important, but you can't take a dump on the fights like this when you're making a fucking DBZ anime.

Because the fights in this RnR remake have literally no substance. DBZ was always about martial ARTS, making the fights beautiful to look at (with good or bad drawings, but they were helped by having Toriyama's incredible manga action to mimic).

This doesn't have a single memorable action. How sad.

Hopefully the new arc turns out better. (Beerus arc was much better so it's not impossible)

They sort of did... it just wasn't enough.
