Dragon Quest Builders 2 announced for PS4/Switch, has multiplayer

I skipped the first game, but I heard so many great things about it. I'll jump in this time. And super cool it's coming to Switch.

I've got a Pro and a Switch but this is definitely a perfect title to play on the Switch, so that'll be the version for me.

The first game was a lot of fun, and this looks even better.

The first, while a very good game, felt like a great foundation for a sequel. Never got more than halfway through it before I got burnt out on it but I'm so in for this on Switch.
Being portable negates a lot of problems with grinding and such.

I wasn't expecting this to be announced anytime soon since DQXI being released.

Getting the PS4 version as it might have unlockable content from Heroes 1 and 2, builders and XI.

The chances of this being cross-save or cross-play are slim to none, aren't they? I love my PS4 & would prefer to primarily play there, but the Switch makes too much of a compelling argument as a portable console.

So dope

Wanted to play the first one but never got around to it and now I have a switch so this is perfect

Did the first one seem like it could've benefited from having multiplayer?

Almost bought the first game on the Vita yesterday. But pulled back thinking I rather play it in the Switch in hope of it coming. Today we get the sequel!

Never played the first game... is it story driven? So this sequel will be total brand new?

The first one was interesting, but some aspects of the design drove me crazy. I can ignore most of it, but to think about the sequel I definitely need to hear that free mode is unlocked from the start and the combat has been overhauled.

This time it's also got competition from the copy of LEGO Worlds that I already bought in early access 2 years ago and set aside for release.

Great news. I absolutely loved the first one. I hope the multiplayer includes local coop, because that's what we missed the most compared to Minecraft.

Yeah, the first DQB is very story driven. The gameplay involves running through quests given by NPCs as your progress through four different story chapters. The game explores a scenario where the Dragonlord won in DQ1 and you have to rebuild the world in the aftermath. The sequel will likely cover a completely different story, though what that will be is anyones guess right now.

Currently playing the first one at the moment, close to beating world 3.
I'll probably get this, not sure day one, but probably will get it when a holiday comes around.

100% stoked on this. The first game is the only game I've platinumed.

If Builders follows the path of the mainline series, maybe it culminates in the rebuilding of Moonbrooke Castle?

Mainly I hope we get larger building areas, and more carry-over between levels--even if it's only recipes and not items. And more recipes--be able to build anything from simpler items.

What he means is, SE is showing better support for the Switch than Capcom, which is true.

They're showing better support for Switch than most publishers, not sure why Capcom is being singled out. Aside from MH World, Capcom has barely even announced any new games recently either.

OT: I'll definitely check this out on Switch. Really enjoyed the demo for Builders but it came out at the wrong time for me.

Strange how they didn't do PS4/Vita/Switch for Japan but I'm there for PS4 version.

Loved the original. Multiplayer as well!

HELL. YES. I absolutely adored DQB on PS4. One of my favorite games from last year. From the brief bit of gameplay they showed it seems like this sequel is fixing just about every complaint people had from the original. The cherry on top is that it's coming to Switch. Cannot wait, will be there day 1.

Thanks for the info. Now I feel I should go play the first game before getting the sequel on the Switch.

Square jumping on Switch early will turn out to be the right move in the future, pretty sure. I hope more japanese announcement is coming shortly.

Never played any DQ game tho, if I dig XI on Switch I might consider this, even if I understand it's a Minecraft-inspired spin-off.

Edit: wrong thread.

Looking forward to picking up DQB 2 on the Switch, should be a lot of fun, I wonder if they are going to go with a DQ3 like story.

Koei Tecmo as well;

Romance of the Three Kingdoms 13
Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence
Nobunaga's Ambition: Taishi
Champion Jockey Special
Winning Post 8 2017
Nights of Azure 2
And Fire Emblem Warriors with Nintendo
Does Dragon Quest Heroes 1 & 2 count?

SE and KT are by far the biggest Switch supporters. Everyone else is quite behind in comparison (Bandai Namco, Capcom, Marvelous, etc).

Nice! Now I wonder which platform I should get it for. If it has local multiplayer that might be a deciding factor.

I guess they switched from PhyreEngine or, for some reason, the Switch is compatible with it.

I don't see why it wouldn't be compatible, but it's probably easier to use a different engine since they won't get any engine support for Switch that's for sure.

Day 1! I hope they added big caverns ala Minecraft.

Would be nice too if the world is now seamless and you have to search for the towns that need to be rebuilded.

Wow, my partner and I LOVE the first game and right at the top of the wish list for a sequel was always co-op! So excited for this!

Hell yeah I'm down.

Especially for Switch.

I played the original DQB on my vita. Glad it now has mulitplayer (that I'll hardly use).

I just hope they keep the single player to the same standard.

I'm in for the sequel, but they should have tweaked the main protagonist designs a bit, the game looks too much like the original game. I wanted DQB2 to be based on DQVI's world, but it seems like it will be a direct sequel to the first one again.

I'm still in chapter 2 on the Vita but I'll consider getting this. Game had solid single player content and was technically impressive for the handheld.
