Dragon Quest XI is coming to the west

I don't think that could happen even if the game scored a perfect 100 metacritic

Not even that. Just the game getting noticed and being played by newcomers and fans. It was legitimately heartwarming to see Persona 5 do so well. Like seeing a lot of newcomers try the game out and love it. I want to see the same happen with Dragon Quest.

The MIDI soundtrack kinda ruined my excitement towards the game for me, which stinks because visually it looks gorgeous. But regardless about how I feel about the game, I think a lot of people expected it to release in the West and this announcement came out of nowhere without a trailer, so there isn't much to talk about.

but where's dragon quest x

I know it's an MMORPG which means it doesn't make much sense for us to get it now years later, I don't care.

Are you taking into account asia or other regions outside Japan or are you just going by launch npd/U.K. Numbers which I agree were not great.... we do not know ltd numbers of the PS4 version unlike steam so the game could have sold a bunch at lower prices. Niche games rely on long legs and not launch numbers.
I expect this game to launch early 2018 in the west on PS4 and maybe steam as well. I doubt 3ds version comes over unless Nintendo does it themselves.

West of course. Hence the localization comment.

The questions for me is will the Nintendo 3DS version be localised for the West and when will Dragon Quest XI be released in the West?

I'm going to guess no for the first question and January 2019 for the second question.

I hope all three versions come in the West. This will be the only time when i will buy a game for 3 different platforms lol.

Now just announce the Western release date(s) please.

I'm praying this gets the PS2 DQVIII treatment where the localized versions get an orchestrated soundtrack and voice acting, but I'm not holding my breath.

It will probably be announced in a press release and a blog post than at some trade show like Gamescom.

Maybe. The US Square Store LEs have been really wack in the past though. Including the last one which was for DQ Heroes 1 I think.

I loved my DQ Heroes CE and was sad Builders and DQH 2 didn't get one.

It's a main line title so it will get one. Hopefully this one.

Not happening this time. They REMOVED the orchestrated music for recent localizations.

No voice acting either.

I don't know why. English gamers don't actually care about Dragon Quest games, only that they get made for their favored platform to boost sales.

lol I don't think that's entirely fair, although there's something about Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter for that matter, that elicit console wars in every thread without fail.

According to whom?

The chances of this game coming to PC... are like 1 to 1,000. Square Enix are even slow bringing mainline Final Fantasy games to PC, a much, MUCH bigger franchise worldwide (that a PC release would make sense).

The only mainline DQ (unless I'm mistaken) to come to PC is DQX, an MMO with crossplay to the other versions.

I'd gladly eat crow if a PC version was announced for the West, especially if it's released within 3 years.

I'm all over the PS4 version. Will probably get Switch and 3DS versions in the west too if they come too, just to show the series support.

If they have released both Dragon Quest Heroes, I don't know why they would want to miss a much bigger title.

Dutch you say? This is how I feel right now

Nice to have some form of confirmation, though I would rather have SE announce it themselves along with a date/timeframe and platforms. I will buy both versions if they release them both here.

I'm relieved to hear it's getting a release (although it's not THAT surprising). I played DQ8 on 3DS as my first proper DQ game and I loved it- just finished the postgame content the other day. I'll be picking up the PS4 version day 1.

Well this is certainly welcome news.

In for whatever versions come out here.

May be the crown jewel for the 3DS if we get that version.

I'll be getting the PS4 version when it gets here I think.

In the meantime, I'm waiting for less than a month until my preloaded copy of DQXI unlocks on 3DS. It's going to be epic (2D FTW)

If it was running on a custom engine, I'd say you're about right. Considering it's running on Unreal Engine 4, I wouldn't be so sure if I were you. And considering how NieR Automata sold on Steam, I wouldn't be surprised if Square started to change their release habits.

Praying for that sweet 3DS version.

Nintendo's been so vocal about their supposed long-term commitment to the 3DS that I'll be pretty pissed if they don't guarantee we'll get this one way or another.

I imagine Nintendo would have to ask Square Enix to allow them to localise Dragon Quest XI in the West. Hopefully Square Enix will let them.

Yes but i also did not expect so many new 3DS games coming out in 2017 too. If DQ Xi is coming early 2018, it will be the best swansong for 3DS.

Nope. Yokai Watch 3 will be the 3DS swan song. DQ XI will come over 2018 and all three YW3 games into 2019.

yeyyyyyyyyyy in for PS4 version

Will buy both PS4 and 3DS versions day 1. The Switch version visually looks the same as PS4 right?

We don't even know anything about the switch version except that it exists. It'll likely be a degraded PS4 version though, yes

If they have released both Dragon Quest Heroes, I don't know why they would want to miss a much bigger title.

Omega Force ports almost all of their games to PC, so it probably wasn't much more work for them. The same isn't true of Square Enix's internal teams. It might happen but the chances are pretty slim IMO.

At the same time they have completely ignored Dragon Quest Builders

Doesn't mean a PC version can't happen but it's too soon to take that for granted

I'm prepared for them to say PS4 only in the west

I simply don't trust them with Dragon Quest anymore

By the time it comes to the west I bet the Switch version should be ready considering how long it normally takes them to localize. Could see them dropping the 3DS version.

pretty clear SE considers DQ a japanese commodity first and foremost so it'll really depend on when/if the PC mindshare over there grows. seems like it's grown somewhat, albeit at a snail's pace relative to the west

I don't quite understand the confirmation here.

So the PR agency supposedly handling PR for Dragon Quest XI in the Netherlands confirmed to Gamer.nl that Dragon Quest XI is coming west? Seems kind of like a weird thing to do. I saw the story a bit earlier and e-mailed Square about it, but am still waiting on a response.

It's basically "we got told this, please believe us." That's all it is.
I'm told by several of our Dutch members that the site is well-respected there, though.

Just beat DQ9 yesterday. It has an amazing post game from what I can tell so far. It almost has me looking forward more to the 3DS version of DQ11 than the PS4 one
