Err.. I don't think is as bad as this, so I not entire sure about your point.
And comparing Akira artstyle with Persona... lets not go down that route.
I'm sure if Akira would be alive he wouldn't accept that main character design.

I find the Persona leak believable. The Dragon Quest design is offputting right away.
A lot of SMT/Persona MC designs are very samey to me.
And besides you never know if they will give you Blue Griffith like they did in SMT5.

Why not compare Shigenori Soejima and Akira Toriyama? Both are (were) amazing artists. And I think that this MC design for P6 (if the leak is true) is his weakest work. I think it looks like shit.
And while the MC design they've shown here for DQ12 isn't Toriyama's best, it's also far from his worst (that's DQ 5's "main" hero, imho). DQ11's MC design was also weird to me at first.

And what other option they had? They did a DQ anime series with zero Akira artstyle and wasn't well receive.
They maybe know at this point that DQ fans also are Dragon Ball fans.

They should've asked ChatGPT to keep Toriyama's style but remove the soy, like whatLokaum D+ did.
They didn't give much context about WHY the game got reboot to begin with.
Because took like an absurd amount of time since the show the first title. I kinda worry about what was the reason behind the change because doing a move like that not only double the time of release, but also throw money into trash.

This might be the last mainline DQ for a good chunk of the fanbase. Hope they go out in a blaze of glory.

DQ VII I'd rather play the 3DS version, imo that one looks better and has more charm to it.
The Builders games, I've only played the first on my Vita. It was super comfy and fun and I can recommend it if that's what you are after. Not sure about the sequel, some say it's better some say it's worse.
I don't know much about the The Dark Prince. Might be a safe bet if it's as good as the one on the NDS, I remember liking that one, but this one has mixed reviews on Steam so you'll have to do some research.
And no idea at all about Treasures.
edit: if you want more DQ, my favorite ones are the NDS remakes. The visuals are perfect for DQ and the enemy spritework and their animations is the stuff of heaven. After those VIII on the PS2 and XI on PC are awesome. But I bet you've already played all those tho lmao.

Yeah the DS remakes are amazing, I love them :]. That's how I played 4 and 5. Haven't gotten around to 6 yet actually, maybe I should play that next
