Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen |OT| deep down darkness

good post overall. question about the dodge roll. i noticed something changed, but i'm so forgetful with these things. what were the changes?

The animation itself is completely different, the Vanilla one looked kinda dopey and felt sluggish. Your character threw himself arms first into the roll and it felt like the animation played in slow motion, the new one is snappy and very capcom feeling. I also immediately noticed tweaks to the climbing animations which look much better now even if they still aren't up to SOTC standards.

The IK system on big enemies feet is also improved and seems to update faster making the whole game feel more grounded. There's just a ton of small improvements, the fact that I was playing Vanilla right before switching really made me appreciate the small things.

I will say that some of the enemy AI in BBI was a bit glitchy though, playing as a Sorcerer I would always try to find a little spot to climb on before casting and the enemies could get stuck trying to get to me. It wasn't a big deal and it's even kind of fun to score some free hits but it definitely happened more than I would have liked. Alot of the rooms in there are cramped so that probably doesn't help.

The damage that you take in there is a bit rough too on Hard, even with great gear some stuff just 1 shots me. I want to see if I can get my elemental res higher before saying it's unbalanced but it's certainly frustrating at times!

Oh and if anyone wants to use my Pawn feel free, need the RC and she's getting pretty good. Just need to get her stuff DF'd then she'll truly murder everything! PSN is JoeFenix and pawn is 154 Strider named Cereza, I added myself to the list in the OP too.

the dodge is much more reliable for me now. glad they improved the game in so many ways.

yea, hard mode is pretty rough. big HP enemies gave me the most trouble. and D 2.0 is my longest boss fight in years.

i don't understand why they put flying dragons in tiny rooms. it's easy to exploit the AI as a ranged class in those.

Daimon 2.0 is rough yeah, I started using Prepiats X4 yesterday to buff my Magick damage and I can annihilate him in 2-3 mins now. Feels really good to stunlock him!

And yeah big enemies in small rooms is a bit weird, definitely can get chaotic!

I remember fighting an ogre in a small area as a magick archer. Richochet shot ruined his life.

It's a steal for people who've never played before, but there's still really no reason why it couldn't have been a $15 DLC and a couple of patches.

I bought at launch, so the price is very unappealing, but I'll almost certainly circle back around to grab this if there is ever a sale.

i didn't know you could stack those until yesterday. doesn't make sense. sucks if they balanced bosses around that feature. i'm definitely going to use that in my next run.

Ricochet Hunter is GLORIOUS, the sound effect used is absolute perfection. I actually started REALLY loving the original DD when I first used that skill.

I can't wait to get the ring that gives LVL3 for some of these skills!

Just a general PSA for people starting Bitterblack Isle.

Make sure to grab all and complete the Quests! There are 3 different quests boards on the island, one at the start and two others in the safe havens inside the dungeon. They are all unique and have different quests. They update periodically after you've completed old quests, so check them accordingly. Finishing them will net you unique items and Barroch will offer better items for sale as well.

I don't know the exact quest that triggered it, but certain high level armors were locked before having completed most of the quests. Quest completion is tied to the types of loot you'll receive later in the game.

Good advice. Yo, do you have a bone scythe that you could send my way? It would save me a ton of time if you have one and can do that for me. Let me know!

I'm now level 42, still trying to finish every side- and noticeboard-quests I can before anything else.
Maxed out Strider and Magick Archer for the player, and Strider/Ranger for the main pawn. I'm now leveling Ranger and Sorcerer, respectively.

It's so fun~

I don't think quests are tied to loot. I still have a handful of quests left on BBI but I've managed to get high level gear for every slot so far. I think it's mostly luck.

When you say the other 2 safe havens are you referring to the shortcut areas that lead back outside BBI? Cuz if so damn I'm blind and only noticed the one at the entrance of BBI.

So I did griffin's bane, accepted the fornier trial quest, noticed it was timed and in my hurry completed it then when I handed it in it canceled 'the conspirators' :(
I tried jumping off a cliff to select retry , I tried loading the last checkpoint save but they both end load at the point immediately after handing in the quest and I immediately get the 'cancelled' message :(

Am I screwed?

That's the one thing that pisses me off about this game, not being able to have more than one save....

The one time this screwed me over royally was during the Fournival trial's and tribulations quest, I was on the second to last day and I went to forge one piece of evidence so I could have it for another quest I had as well, but I didn't realize that forging it would take a whole day and by the time I woke up from the inn it started the cutscene for the trial because I think I went to rest at the inn right before the 1 DAY LEFT message popped up but even then there was nothing I could do because you cannot cancel forging.

Poor dude went to jail, I felt so bad I paid the 100k to send seymore home.

Interesting, I haven't tried it yet. I remember I never used it in the base game because it was actually slower than simply double-jumping out of danger, so what's the point?

Roll spam is great for moving faster when you're full of junk, lol.

I think it'd be awesome, really really awesome, if DD2 had a Gambits system.
Please this. Please this so much.

If I have idiotic AI moments, I want them to be my fault. Inclinations aren't enough. The pawn learning system was a cute effort, but I'm over it and want more control.

No, the safe havens have barroch in them and a bed also.

There are beds too? ha! I'm just past the Lich+ Cursed Dragon fight and I've seen Barroch at least twice but have not noticed any beds or questboards. Maybe I should use that augment to give my lantern a boost. lol!

Would be so useful for sorcerers or support mages. As things are I don't trust pawns with spells.

So I bought the first DD for $20 a few months ago and finally started to play it. I've decided its...awesome? So now I'm wondering if I should even continue with the base game or pick up the DA version instead. That, and if I give my original copy to my roommate, are we able to play together?

I really hate to ask this, but are there any high-level players who don't mind using my pawn for a while? I'm a PS3 player and I'm on the document (PSN ID Chemoglobin, pawn's name is Kasia, she's a level 195 Strider). I've done so much damn Bitterblack gear farming that I am just positively out of rift crystals. Now I'm trying to farm crystals but just keep getting tons of Bitterblack gear while doing it, hahah... it's maddening!

If anyone can help me out, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks so much in advance~

How high are you looking for? I'm at 40, definitely wouldn't mind using a high level Strider though.

I don't think you need to do all the quests, i still haven't finished all of them. But the quest (or perhaps the items you get that are associated with said quests) are definitely tied to the lvl 3 armor drops in some manner. I guarantee it.

The drops are random and based on luck, yes. However the item pool for those drops increases after some unknown variable is achieved.

Edit: burgerdog, I have 3 scythes but no bone lantern :(

Yep, that just happened to me this morning. I yelled some curses, 'I hate this game' etc.

What's all this talk about rolling? You can roll in this game? Huh.

If you are using daggers, you can buy a core skill that let's you use R1 + X or RB + A to dodge roll.
Just wondering - I hope Mylene/Over_Doser reads this, how many RCs did you get once I sent Milky back? I literally had her for like 15 hours.

Questions

1. How do you determine how good a shield is, defense-wise? It only lists strength and magick as stats (are those the determining characteristics?)

2. Is Magick an attack stat for a physical melee weapon? I have an enchanted weapon I found with a very high magick stat, but I can't use it yet to test out myself.

3. Any tips for building a good Sorcerer character? I've heard it's good to equip at least one low level spell so they can cast fast. My main pawn (Sorc) is level 30, check her out if you want (GT: MouseOfTheField), I've added that stuff to the spreadsheet too.

4. Do the anodyne spells only target single people?

Inclination is such a crapshoot. I'm not even going to try to understand it anymore. I power-leveled my playable character's warrior vocation (unlocking Clout) last night.

My pawn was at scather primary and acquisitor secondary, maintained via potions. I did not use any d-pad commands. Did not use any healing items. I went to the post game place with infinite guards and did nothing but attack, attack, attack from lv 1 - 9. I was attacking all the time and picking stuff up when there were lulls in enemy waves.

When I was back at the knowledge chair I was greeted with: "Would you rather me be a pioneer or a medicant?"

What on earth?! Stop right now, who the hell is teaching you to be a warrior medicant? LOOT FOR ME.

Almost finished my Shadow gear last night alone. All i need is the chest piece and it's time to cross fingers for oblivion or hellfire...

question to those farmer who have already gone through most of the new rare items...

Finished a lot of the quests (went back to Gransys - Shadow fort GoreGolems, Witchwood mages, Catacombs living armor and all the Tainted Mountain saurian and Executioner quests) ... should I now, hopefully, be able to godsbane at the Damion2.0 chests and see lvl4 gear?

Is there a wiki out there with escort quest lists. I remember an early one somebody died. I didn't think that they actually "died" - like, for good. My concern is that it fucked up other quest lines.

He didn't seem like an important character, certainly not like some of the other escort quests which involve characters with more importance. I think his name started with a G, it was one of the earlier escort missions...

Huh? How?!

???!!! sounds like you either reloaded a game or... killed him and didn't realize it??

I know he doesn't reset when you beat BBI 1.0 ... just killed him the other night and began hunting the 2nd showing shortly after that.

sucks meng...

Is the escort quest permadeath really a thing? I know I definitely got Reynard killed early on, but he reappeared shortly after selling me stuff as usual. I think the only other ones I did were Selene, Pip, Adaro and the innkeeper though and I managed to protect those ok.

This is really my only negative of this game. It drives me crazy, but to combat it, I go to the encampment and purchase ~10x ______ elixir. I check my pawn's inclination at the end of each session (and during a long session or if I notice her acting dumb) via pause-status screen, and if it's changed, I drink an elixir and viola my pawn is back to where I want her.

I heard that the weapon you get from the level 3 weapon purification is based on you and your pawns vocation. So if I wanted a non long bow strider/strider or assissin/strider would be my bet?

And yet i've been assassin/Ranger for days now and have 2 of the bitterblack magic bows. shrug.
