Definitely a game that I wanted to play more of after finishing it. I wanted the world to be a little bigger. And I could definitely go for a sequel.

I had platinumed the game on vanilla PS3 (the one that didn't include BBI) and at that time i thought i knew everything about this game.

Then i bought the Dark Arisen version (on PS3) and i got my ass handed by regular mobs in BBI and i was like "WTF??"
Still i persevered and managed to beat the first form of Daimon and i stupidly thought "hey i've finally conquered this game".

And then i bought the remaster on PS4 and got super hooked at it again, playing it for hours each day and started watching Youtubers like Nihil0.0 ,Gemmalady and other masters from the Dragon's Dogma community and i was blown away at how much clueless i still was even after hundreds of hours i had put in this game across all the versions i had played.

Long story short this is the only game i platinumed twice (and honestly i usually don't give a shit about trophies) ,i have put probably around a thousand hours into it across all its versions since 2012, i have watched a ton of content from much more knowledgable players than me and i still can't say i know everything about this game.

Thank you, very informative. I assumed having beaten the base game a couple of times I knew what I was doing. Turns out I'm completely clueless. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

First time round I approached it like it was just more of the original game. Obviously that was a mistake on my part. When I re-bought it on PC I tried to make myself as OP as possible during the base game, in anticipation of the DLC, figuring I'd ready for it this time.

Nope.

Some classes can be a bit harder in BBI than others. I think the classes that make it a bit easier are Rangers and Magic Archers. Getting good gear from BBI and dragonforge them to their max dragonforged levels can make your life much easier too.
Also remember to buy a lot of Conqueror Periapts before you decide to go deeper in BBI especially after you kill first Daimon. If things get tough you can use 4 of them (they stack) and in combination with blast arrows you'll annihilate pretty much everything.

Is there any other game that has a pawn system like DD? I have never seen anything like it. Kind of cool adopting another players character to join your squad. If I was having trouble I could hire one that was over leveled to make combat easier. I always kept my pawn in the best gear I could so other players would hire her. Then you could write a note or send a gift along with a pawn when you release them back to their creator. That whole gaming concept was a first for me.

I don't think so! Well, actually in Monster Hunter Generation you can bring the offline character of your friends with you!

A little fun PSA in case you didn't know: The physical Japanese Switch version of Dragon's Dogma has dual language voice acting included, separate from text. So I picked up a copy when I was there and sold my American version (which I had to import because there is no European physical release). I find the constant talking in Japanese quite charming, as opposed being bored with the constant talking in English (probably because I can understand that perfectly, making it easier to notice the repetitiveness).

My only dissapointment with the game is that it doesn't feature motion controls, so my bow shots couldn't be more off target. I like the Strider class, so I can't use like half the class.

The narrative was weak and the pawn system was kinda gimmicky but I loved everything about the combat and it carries the whole experience.

I’m expecting a sequel to be in the works with the rereleases having stirred some interest... and I’m in.

I just beat it a couple of weeks ago - great game with lots of cool and unique ideas. I would say its the most epic fantasy game ever imho. It should be mandatory for other rpgs to have such epic scale monsters and environments

People always praise (and rightfully so) the lore of the Souls games and how much thought From has put behind it in terms of item placement and its meaning in their worlds but Hideaki Itsuno and his team has also put a lot of hidden details that make Dragon's Dogma world feel even more "alive" and consistent.

For example i was blown away when i first saw this video by Gemmalady and made me respect Itsuno and his team even more:

The developers not only matched the stars of Gransys night sky to our own but they also matched some of them (in terms of symbolism and significance) with key locations that are below them in Dragon's Dogma's world. This is crazy especially since these are details almost no one would have been able to figure out unless he knew a lot about astronomy.

that's incredible! The level of details that game has sure is something. Capcom went full ambitious with this title.

Nice game, but getting the same enemies everytime in the same place it's not for me. More enemy variation in randomness places would be great.

Yes, it best game, comrade.

Seriously though I haven't played enough of it to tell for sure but what I have played is rather good, definitely one of the better western RPG-esque games from a Japanese developer.

It could've been. It's just so rushed and unpolished sadly. Still an amazing game. I would LOVE a sequel on next-gen.

I finished the game and I don't think the combat was particularly impressive either, some classes were fun (magic archer) but others were very boring (strider, assassin). What I liked the most about the game were the Berserk collaboration items and references. Maybe if I picked a less boring class I might remember the game more fondly.
Assasin and strider are the most OP and fun classes. You can mount and enemy and hit them in their weak spot for massive damage.

It's an amazing game but the lack of easy fast travel killed it for me.

I don't have the time anymore, and boy, you'll be covering some ground around in this one.

They fixed that with BI. You can put port crystals all over the map, which stay in place for new game+

You still can't skip the hydra head mission, which is a drag

I finished it on PS3 and I had a blast. This was on launch. One minor gripe was the method of teleportation. I felt like it was confusing and the pawns should have been co-op.

I really liked fighting the giant troll/cyclops near the water and the Griffith outside. It was fun and looked fantastic. Going out at night was also a pain sometimes, especially if you weren’t prepared.

I had way too much fun with the combat and pawn system in Dragon's Dogma back in the day. I bought Dark Arisen not too long ago for Xbox 1. Cant wait to boot this up on Series X

It's a fantastic game, but at the same time feels like a tremendous waste of potential. It really needed a bigger and better sequel with a team that actually were able to write a compelling story.

Definitely one of my favorite games, I really enjoyed Dragons Dogma and all it's oddities.

I hope it eventually gets a sequel and that has as much weirdness and nonsense, both in terms of story and gameplay.

I love RPGs, but I did NOT like Dragon’s Dogma. I fell for the hype from others and it just didn’t live up to it for me. 😓

And, so I ordered an import copy of the Switch release. I miss playing this underrated game, and the playthrough of Yamatufa Gaming made my decision final.

For anyone that played the game , went through many dozens of hours, would you not be willing to say it's simply one of the best game ever made?

As soon as you start the game, the intro is atmospheric, intense and immediately fun. The weight of the character, deep status information , lightning effects, outstanding music and dark fantasy action rpg instantaneously bring you in a immersive journey already. Then after the prologue you understand that you are in the very beginning of an absolutely unique adventure.

This game only merits more attention, but also a proper sequel worthy of its name. This game is an absolute masterpiece from all angle.

I've found it too tedious, honestly

The issue I have with this game is the fast traveling is horrible.
The game aimed for a Dungeons and Dragons feel where every time you left from your safe area/hub it wanted you to feel as if you were going on an adventure that you couldn't know how long it would take or what you would encounter. You had to really prepare and manage your items before you left and hope that you made the right choices in terms of skills, equipment and items. If the game had a convenient fast travel system from the get go it would then destroy that goal.

Now could they have implemented it better? Yes they could because after a while when you had to travel to the same place for the fourth-fifth time by foot it started to feel tiresome since by that time you would have experienced the same enemies and situations over and over again. That is something that i hope they improve in the sequel by making enemy placing more dynamic with enemies moving in the world and the player's actions affecting what types of beasts appear in certain places so everytime you went to the same location it would be a very different situation with new groups of enemies. That IMO would be the epitome of D&D adventure someting that was on Hideaki Itsuno's mind ever since he conceived Dragon's Dogma. If they could achieve that then i wouldn't want a typical fast travel system and i would want them to keep the ferrystone/port crystal system of the original. Of course if the world is bigger then a few more port crystals would be needed.

I'm honestly kind of shocked this doesn't have a sequel already. Is this just up to the bureaucratic querks at Capcom? I'm aware there's an online only MMORPG version of this but only for the Japan market. Which also seems incredibly bizarre....🤔

Hideaki Itsuno (Dragon's Dogma creator) had said in an interview that two of the projects he really wanted to do were Dragon's Dogma and Devil May Cry 5.And when he propesed these two projects at Capcom's president he gave him the greenlight to do first whichever he wanted. And although Itsuno has said many times that his favorite work in his career was Dragon's Dogma he choose DMC5 to do first because as he (very diplomatically) said "DMC fans had waited too long for the next installment in the series".

However i believe the real reason he choose to do DMC5 first was because he wanted to take that out of the way (and not having the DMC fans always on his back begging him) and focus 100% on Dragon's Dogma 2 since it would be a much much more ambitious project than DMC5 was.He also probably wanted the game to be a cross-generation project.

“So, when the discussion came up for Devil May Cry 5, I went to Kenzo [Kenzo Tsujimoto, Capcom founder] and I said… look, I want to make either Devil May Cry 5 or Dragon’s Dogma 2 next,” Itsuno told VG247 through a translator as part of a Devil May Cry 5 media tour. “He said ‘okay, do whatever you want. Do whichever one you want.’ So I thought, alright, y’know what… let’s do DMC5. So we did that.”
(in another interview he explained the reason why he choose DMC5 first)

You should also check Archipel's documentary about DMC5 and RE2R where Itsuno speaks a lot about Dragon's Dogma saying how he was thinking about the idea for 8 years until he started the development:

For DD mentions check at:
8:19 - 9:35 (that shows that he had DD on his mind even before helping on DMC2)
33:26 - 34:31 (Dragon's Dogma inspirations and begginings as a remake of the arcade Dungeons and Dragons game made for PS2)
35:47 - 37:14 (how he wanted that Dungeons and Dragons game to have online elements and eventually his ideas becoming Dragon's Dogma)

i still remember when it first launched at ps360, people are complaining at 'suspicious' or rushed low rating review given by tons of gaming site ...after those bit of uproar, the rating turn to decent

why there lot of complain? because the game is fun and great despite the flaws and people voicing their opinion..not to mention that time we had tons of open world game/open world rpg with shitty gameplay combat...it feels that time, good gameplay cant coexist with open world game but this game proved otherwise

i just goes blind that time..know nothing of this game, only interested to the title, company, director and i digging that rpg job feels from the trailer and cover... that later turn out one of best discovery of the year for me..had blast with the gameplay, exploration, immersive night travel, pawn system and such..and later when remastered version Dark Arisen coming, the game get 'proper' attention than original launch..this time people actually 'looking'at this game...then later pc version coming which is bring joy to lot of people...playing at sub 30fps ps3 already give soo much joy..when get the 60fps on pc...even each simple swing of sword feels like magical slick to me

people should give proper chances to this game...the game is bit slow start..it start opened after first escort quest to gran soren..and the game is all about gameplay and combat with unique vocation and skills, cool gears which is definitely one of the best out there (FashionDogma term exist for a reason), monster climbing, great character creation and sharing/renting others player pawn...this is game for those who care about fighting monster than storyline..and the photo mode is addicting though...there lot of cool screenshot shared by fans at offical pawn community page...fast travel complaint is common problem for new comer...however there exist fast travel system...there item called ferrystone where you can put keystone at designated area and travel instantly using that..for pc and latest version, infinite ferrystone is free available to everyone..repetitive quest at board not mandatory though

although not much as skyrim, this game had tons of meme being done by fans too..which is show that it had quite the following out there

Probably an unpopular opinion but every time I try to get into this game I just can't. The combat is great but it feels kinda lifeless. It feels like it should be a co-op game or online RPG but instead you have to settle for AI partners.

If it gets a sequel with at least 4 player co-op in the REengine I'd be all over it.

I like the game a lot but they need to make some changes, the magic based characters need to do more melee damage, they also need to add mounts of some kind and open the world up a bit more. I'd love to be able to have flying mounts myself, griffons and dragons would be awesome. Also they need to cut down on how long it takes to cast some of the bigger spells, they become almost useless even with the things you can use to reduce casting time. They also need to add a weather system etc but the potential is there, I enjoy it a lot but it feels like it's missing some things.

Dragons Dogma is one of my favourite games of all time. Absolutely incredible.

It would be a crime against humanity if Capcom isn't already working on a sequel for the next gen!
