So I got a email from photobucket last week.

Hi XXX

My name is Caroline Chester and I am a member of the finance team at Photobucket. I would like to speak with you about your Photobucket account as it has become quite a burden for us due to your high bandwidth usage. I would like to speak with you as soon as possible so that we can work together to find a way to mitigate these costs. Please let me know a time that we can jump on the phone or please contact me at the number below.

Thank you,

Caroline Chester

So I instantly think this is due to the e3 .gifs. I get off the phone today and learn that I made it into the top 5 bandwidth users of Photobucket last month. The 5th Element .gif received well over 1 million views, at 15mb a view.

All because of this

So, long story short, they want my .gifs to be private, but I was able to convince them that this one went viral, getting up to #4 on reddit at one point, and twitterd all over the place.

So the solution we agreed on, is that I'm going to change the file name, thus breaking hotlinks. There are people on other boards using it in signatures and other things that just show up all the time (once again thank you GAF for not subjecting us to signatures). I will change the name tomorrow morning, so if for some reason you want to save it, do it now.

I also plan to have a bit of fun with this, and this is where I need some help from GAF. I would like a tasteful image to replace the filename with. Maybe something mentioning how the original photo broke photobucket. Small in MB size, non-animated. Something that I will upload to the file and will show up in those signatures and other things on other boards.

Remember it has to be saved in .gif format though, the file name is. "The5thNintendoElement.gif"

Do it.

Did Caroline have a very professional attitude about the situation?

Ah, I loved that gif. Not sure how appropriate it is after E3 to keep using it in sigs tho.
I also didn't know photobucket can contact you, that's scary.

HARDCORE, IMAGE HOSTS.

NINTENDOS BACK!

We have a brand new Dr. Forester E3 GIF that is... hot...
Hot...
HOT!

It's gone Viral.
Everybody's on board!
So... you saving me yet?

I've got nothing.

Congrats, Forester. Minus a few lines being misspelled the .gif was hilarious and you deserved it going viral.

Yes, absolutely. Apparently they have people who use their pro accounts for commercial business sites. And with my jump, they assumed it as well, once I explained the situation she took a closer look at my account and saw it came from one file, and that I was not using it for business. She also looked up the reddit page.

It's nice to know that GAF can still break photobucket, even when the images are supported by "unlimited bandwidth"

gratz Forester. You have made the House of Celestia proud.

Edit: just looked it up, my Seinfeld Konami conference .gif has taken up 982.22 GB's of bandwidth at 234,315 hits. At least it's nice to know abload.de can take a pounding.

I wish your prognostications about the Nintendo conference were as accurate as your ones for Microsoft tragically were. And great job!

Wow that is quite a feat. Only shows how awesome that GIF is Forester. It looks like Photobucket also handled this pretty well. I could see someone else just deleting your file or closing your account all together.

Gif, each line has it's own frame/s

"it would seem a problem is born,
I created a neat little gif for E3,
That was meant just for GAF and me,
Completely Out of control it did spiral,
It picked up some steam and went viral,
Now it's breaking Photobucket,
To which I say "fuck it",
I'm replacing it with gay porn."
End with a gay porn image......lol

Wow. BBC America censored his thong and that's it. I thought BBC Britain allowed him to be nude or something. Way to go America, further proving Nipplegate needs to die already.
