Driveclub Eurogamer Preview

Little late but...

Fuck me. I'll remember this when "diminishing" returns comes up again.

it's pretty, but something about FH2's waether looks a bit odd. I think the roads look too shiny - you're driving up a hill, the water wouldn't be evenly slick like that.

To be fair, Rushy probably played the game slightly more than Shaun.

As someone who is trying to get his own YouTube channel off the ground to make a claim that assist are present when they aren't is a big deal. And anyone who plays a decent amount of driving games should be able to tell if assist are changing mid race, let alone if they are present or not.

He framed it all within that E3 is not a great environment to play the game and that he only played the game a limited amount of time because that's just how E3 works with demos.

Not sure whether has been some mis-communication or interpretation of what has been said or played but the facts are straight forward :)

> There is no rubber banding - Cars can never go faster than there performance stats allow (AI or human)
> There are no dynamic assists that affect performance based upon position - We never slow down or speed up players online to keep them grouped together.

Hope this clears things up.

Definitely not. The handling is always consistent irrelevant of position.

This, ladies and gentlemen, marks the end of this debate. Thanks Rushy!

It wasn't a booth assistant. It was Design Director Simon Barlow.

Although it's being denied, I have a feeling this is still something under the hood of the game that he let slip. He made it CRYSTAL clear to me.

No reason to think this. Miscommunications can happen and this seems to be the case here. We have the top man take the time to come here and explicitly deny these claims. Refusing to accept that because Simon Barlow gave a different explanation isn't the way to go about it. Someone screwed up and people have clarified it on request. End of story. You should correct your preview (if you haven't already). Will leave it up to you to chase down Simon if you need closure on the matter.

I'm glad that you brought it up and we could get this out of the way. Just wanted you to know that it was never my intention to question your credibility as much as question the information that was assumed to be fact. I think people jumped on you prematurely and the responses you got weren't really fair. Sometimes your reputation precedes you in forums. Hope you find a way to mend that :)

Excellent, many thanks for clarifying.

Now where's that weather footage? Is there an ETA on when we can expect it?

Hey Rushy I don't know if you said this already but will the dynamic weather update make its way to single player?

What about single player? You specifically said online here.

Damn the amount of detail in this game. As I said before, it's the type of game I'd probably find enjoyment in even if the gameplay wasn't particularly memorable. Just enjoying the lush visuals, mmm

Yes Rushy please, WaveStorm would be nice, with both land and sea vehicles driving next to each other on the coasts, over rivers and waterfalls...just imagine the mayhem paired with PS4 horsepower? ;)

MotorStorm would be about the only racing game I wouldn't mind an open world in. Imagine the island having different environments throughout, with tons of rivers/waterfals etc cutting through the island (which would be tracks for jet skis/boats etc) and of course having tracks for the land of the island for offroad vehicles. It would be glorious.

Of course I'd settle for a closed course MotorStorm/WaveStorm as well. Best arcade racers of...ever. MotorStorm is amazing. Would buy an HD remake of any of them in a heartbeat.

The cockpits are freaking amazing, too. Made better, there are two cockpit modes, one which is further up on the dash. It's the best viewpoint I've ever seen in a racing game because it gives you the authentic 'in the car' feel while not jeopardizing half of your screen. I hope other games incorporate such a view in the future.

Didn't know about this, pretty cool

The club part will fall off after a while. But I remember Gotham having a free mode that was just fun. Had to knock down all cones to end level. Haven't heard much about what it will take to unlock 50 cars, or credits for upgrades?

Even if it's just motorstorm 2 with just racing as the point, it will be enjoyable.

The view from behind the wheel on Forza Horizon 2 looks almost two-dimensional by comparison. Observe the straight lines (top and sides). Whereas Evolution Studios have managed to capture a realistic sense of depth.

I'm not digging the sound of Driveclub though. Yes, I know the audio files are realistic (to the point where some manufacturers have requested copies) but the situation is analogous to current day F1 engines. Artistic licence is better than reality, sometimes.

i mean look at this shit. It's unreal. It's a fucking videogame dudes, this much detail is mental.

And fucking awesome!

I am actually excited about the Club aspect. Seems to be a pretty social racing game, which would be a nice change of pace. But I'm still up in the air about the handling and whatnot, really need to get a feel for it to form an opinion.

Every thing is modeled in such insane detail, and then the effects placed on top... just feels so authentic its mesmerizing just watching some of these gifs.

Is DriveClub the new Killzone? KZ was the GIF king of the previous generation. It's looking like DC is the new king.

That's FH2 on the Xbox One, that's not Driveclub, the lighting in DC is way past that.
Haha, didn't realise. Says a lot - well, about shrunken gifs, anyway. To be honest, I don't really care where its from - that looks pretty great to me
Edit:
I believe its because there's more "going on" in that gif, as opposed to the effects. The Driveclub gif has better graphics, but nowhere near as much happening over the course of the gif.

Your comment does not make any sense...

If by "more going on" you mean more colorful Ridge Racer flags, then I gotta admit, you're right.
